Truly, out of all his brothers, Mikey is definitely the most emotionally mature one out of the 4- with Dr. Feelings is when it's shown the most, I like this version of Mikey, he still acts playful and young, goofy, but knows what to do and what to say in rough situations- I kin Donnie much more but Mikey is definitely a close to second character I just absolutely relate to on that context

This might be an unpopular opinion as a TMNT fan that enjoyed most incarnations of them but this Mikey (as well as Rise Raph) are by far my favourite versions of them. Raph's anger issues are diminished but justified and I like that he doesn't abuse his brothers like before. Mikey for once might be the sharpest tool in the shed (besides Donnie) yet that doesn't stop him from being an adorable goofball. Yes, you can be both funny and clever! Plus, as shown there, he's never belittled by his older brothers; they acknowledge him, shower him in love and protection which, again, is something I'm glad to see in this franchise.

I've never watched any of the other iterations before, but from what I've gathered, in the 2012 version at least, mikey is regularly belittled, dismissed and verbally/emotionally abused by his brothers throughout the series.
While we see raph infantilise him a bit here, that's purely out of concern and not because he doesn't think Mikey can do things on his own.
We really get to see him be himself, as a confident, emotionally intelligent, acrobatic artist because he was brought up in such a positive and supportive environment :)
Him strong-arming draxum's redemption though... I get its necessity plot wise, but it still wasn't really deserved.
Anyway, love this version of *everyone*. Mikey may be my least favourite but I still love him just as much as the others!

Yeah, the Draxum redemption didn't felt really earned. I guess the showrunners only had to make it happened fast, being so restricted in number of episodes (😢)
And yup, except for Donnie, right now, I can't think of any moments where Leo and especially Raph weren't unnecessarily dismissive or downright mean to Mikey in the 2012 series, especially past the third season.
Rise is overall my favourite TMNT show and I honestly can't wait to finally get Netflix to see the movie (no spoilers please)

I’m in love with this Mikey, I remember the first time I watched ROTTMNT, I thought “Oh, he’s actually… useful”
Not that 2012 Mikey was useless, but his brothers made it look like he was, and in the 2018 version, his brothers respect him, listen to him and show him love. Mikey is smart and his bros never make him feels that’s he’s not, but they still look after him and are overprotective cuz he’s their kid brother and that’s normal. All the relationships in this version are really healthy AND I’M HERE FOR IT
Rise Mikey is the most emotionally intelligent, Rise Donnie is the most factually intelligent. It’s a match made in heaven.
I agree with you, this version of Raph and Mickey is way better in my opinion. Raph is no longer the hot-headed one that gets into fights with everyone, he is somewhat level-headed and tries to figure out other ways to solve issues. As for Mickey, he isn't that dumb. He has common sense and he is very level-headed and optimistic.

Oh Mikey can be great and acts like the family therapist. Problem is, unlike actual therapists, he doesn’t seem to have his own.
Thank goodness there wasn’t a 2012 crossover because I would be worried that he’d try and redeem Kraang Prime or Shredder because he’d see them as Leatherhead and Karai’s family.
The thing is, Shredder did get his redemption in rottmnt so Mikey would probably try to help 2012 Shredder too(
@@rustygateofme There’s kind of a difference between being conscious of your actions and being influenced by a cursed armour.
And the “redemption” took place after he murdered his daughter. Honestly, it’s more like an exorcism which he ultimately died from. Or being put out of his misery like Old Yeller.
Finally, maybe we shouldn’t put the pressure on the 13 year old to redeem grown men when the only one who can do that is themselves. And also because the people they affected may never move on due to a lack of closure.
There may not be a 2012 crossover series...
But there are plenty crossover fics lol

2012: Mikey is the prankster, but also the heart of the family, who understands feelings more than the rest, and keeps his brothers together.
2018: Mikey is the youngest sibling, and also the one with highest level of sanity, who's still the heart of the family and keeps his brothers together.
I like them both equally.
I love how he's the unmature one, but you have to remember he's 13, Donnie and Leo are 14 and Ralph is only 15-16. They are really young 🤣

Am I the only one who absolutely adores the fact that this version of our boi’s, especially Mikey, can finally express themselves with clothing and not have it look bulky and weird? Every other iteration of the turtles has had them being too bulky to wear actual clothing they like. Rather than just disguises to try and hide what they are. I’m all for this and hope it continues on to the next generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

As an ADHD person myself I can confirm that we are very good at understanding people and their emotions. Yes, we can be childish and goofy and kinda dumb but we can also be really mature. I just can’t get over how well they portray Mikey’s ADHD in the Rise universe, I love him so much (I mean I love all of them of course, but Mikey’s too much like me to not be top 😂)

On the leadership I do think Leo acts a lot like Mikey just less compassionate, in this version. So honestly, Mikey really is leader material he'd just have way way way too much pressure and probably couldn't take it. But that works for Mikey tbh he is the one who's suppose to have the most potential, and does since he was the strongest turtle in the dark future timeline

As much people wanted Mikey to be a leader, this guy is the YOUNGEST of the group and being the youngest leader means that he has to suffer both being a loving kid but having the weight of his family and friends on his shoulders so that’s why it’s passed to Leo.
He definitely needs to grow up more before even begining to take on leadership qualities, he has potential, just needs to mature and get proper training

they really decided to give mikey all the braincells this time around to make up for his poor characterization/treatment in previous versions huh. respect. these made me remember why this mikey is soooo great
If you're familiar with the comics, you'd know that none were jokers at all. They changed that and gave them 4 a complete overhaul making them way more likeable and kids friendly. Then through out the years this had gotten to the point of being way too silly even back in the 90s (Tmnt 2). The seriousness and hostility and violence was dropped for sillyness slap-stick comedy and fun. I'd seriously be interested in seeing a series or movie of the original Turtles from the comics (the earlier ones before it went south with the unbelievable and bizarre). I'm more grounded, and though triceratons rock-soldiers the kraang are ok.. that's how far I'd go with the sci-fi. Though I don't mind the zany, like the Bruce Lee Hun of the purple dragons, and Bebop and Rocksteady. But the 2003 went way overboard, as did the 1986 red sky episodes, in the stupidity and I didn't like it at all.

I grew up on the previous version of tmnt and I've been a bit too clingy to my nostalgia to check this one out, but the more clips of it I see...I think I might end up watching it.
You're just the previous 2012 I'm assuming. My in aaalll the way back to the 1986 cartoon. I didn't like this at all, but as I'm watching the clips they are starting to seem ok.. especially with the autistic Donatello and Adhd Michelangelo. I get why they made Leonardo insecure egotistical immature and depressed.. can I say bipolar here?? And Raph being the oldest, as I've ALWAYS assumed he was in every show and movie, was the natural head of his siblings as the elder. This explains why he was always rebellious and hostile with Leo. And this explains his being more loner and his own company too. But his anger I see they dropped. In the comics all were antisocial violent and hostile, who lived in the shadows and went after Shredder purely for revenge for Splinter's mutation. That was true while existence. Later on they became crime fighters and relaxed a bit with humans to interact with them. So even then they eventually were watered down, though I hate what some comics did to them or how overboard they went. But this is all versions.. sadly. I'd not mind a movie of the original comics Tmnt, where they mutate, grow up, are trained, then hunt down and go after the Shredder. The dark gritty Turtles we never got to see on the screen.

The original comics Turtles did, in the very beginning, before they too were watered down and censored, they were very antisocial, hostile, and violent. They were crude rude sarcastic and didn't care. They drank smoked cursed and gorged on food. They were very good skilled and fast fighters, and were the most 'ninja' of any version out there. They were the shortest but stocky and strong. They had the same colour bandanas.. red I think. They decimated Shredder in the first episode, very brutally btw, and forced him to honour kill himself with Leo giving the final fatal blow. How would these guys do on the big screen in a movie?? I'd be interested. They certainly were not pc "kid-friendly" silly comedic "emotionally sensitive" or goofy. Nor were they the type that would seem "normal" "tame" or even "safe" to society, especially this "soft and sensitive" generation of people. Yet later in as they mellowed a bit they had human friends, April and Casey being the closest and two original. First they had the mission to hunt Shredder (Saki Oroku) to avenge Yoshi Hamato. That was their whole existence to repay those that mutated them in the first place. Later they became crime fighter vigilantes against the purple dragons, and too, as they found out more about the ooze and the kraang later on. This would be cool to watch. Def different from what we've seen, though story wise already known; just the Turtles were way more mature and serious, and thus, different. These guys were tough and hard.
