I went to a film school, and our fist assignment was a mise en' scen, which involves no audio or cuts (Its also one full scene), so you can make a audience understand the film visually. You defenitely can, but it is hard to go without cuts, because everything needs to go perfectly in a take, so you won't take so long to reset the shot.
Yo dude, love your videos! Please keep them coming 🙏🏻 I was actually an extra on 1917. Can confirm that 8 minute long take took tonnes of attempts to get right haha. Funnily enough, a lot of the easier scenes of just the 2 mains walking through trenches actually took longer. One 4 minute scene took us about 3 full days to film (we’re on set for about 15-16 hours per day!). It could be something as simple as an extra facing the wrong direction when sitting down at the very end of the take, and the whole scene had to be reset. Plus, the weather kept changing so it became a continuity nightmare. We all had a blast though, plenty of memories on that set. And to see a master at work in Sam Mendes was surreal.
Ngl his CZcams strategy is kinda genius because you watch the video and then have to see another video too see the final movie so he gets double the amount of views.
yeah but it's more about watch time, not views. if he just added it to the end he could get the same amount of watch time and it wouldn't matter. i think it's more about the ctr which promotes his channel more.
BRO I ALSO WATCHED 1917 AND WANTED TO MAKE A MOVIE IN ONE SHOT !! I was waiting for this video since looooong ago. Thank you Issac, keep on making movies, I'll hope one day you'll be on the big screen ;) !
I mean 1917 is one of my favorite films. there were I think 49 cuts in the whole movie. That's a bout a cut every five minutes. Which is crazy to me. Love that u decided to do this yourself. Your videos always feel so original and entertaining,
I have the German film "Victoria" - a full length movie made in one take no cuts, no 'hidden' cuts. It was shot over a night with multiple locations. It took 3 attempts to actually get it right. Well recommended.
You actually convinced me to sign up to Milanote and not gonna lie it helps so much with organizing (that's my honest opinion, nobody paid me to say anything like this)
Isaac, by the off chance you’re reading this. You don’t even realize how inspiring you are to watch, as filmmaker wanna be myself. It’s nice to see someone on YT share the same passion. ❤
All of you are wrong, what he means by cut is cutting like when you cut two scenes in a video/movie, not cutting text, why would he cut text when editing a video? I can't believe you're all so stupid, and of course I'm guessing in his editor, the shortcut for cutting is C, gotta explain this one too?
This reminds me of that one Mr. Robot episode where they made it look like a full one take for one hour straight, by far the best one shot I've seen so far.
Cute but you should smooth out the lines of the door frame also to blend it into the surrounding wall, otherwise it just looks like there's a door you turned into a wall to smash through.
One thing you can do for a more impactful wall break is to throw white flour on the front side of the drywall so it is disguised by the white color of the wall and when the person smashes through, it generates this really nice dusty plume that looks sweet.
Isaac Carlton's CZcams series is a great resource for fans of his work. His CZcams strategy involves watching the video and then seeing another video to see the final movie, resulting in double the number of views. The author recommends trying to make a movie without edits, no extra sound, or cuts, and focusing on pure camera work. They enjoyed a non-talking short film they saw and enjoyed the videos. As an extra in 1917, they confirmed that an 8-minute take took multiple attempts to get right. Easy scenes took longer, with one 4-minute scene taking about 3 full days to film. The weather and changing weather conditions made continuity a challenge. The experience was enjoyable, and the opportunity to see a master at work in Sam Mendes was surreal. The author attended a film school and had their first assignment be a mise en'scen, which involves no audio or cuts and one full scene. However, it is hard to go without cuts, as everything needs to go perfectly in a take to reset the shot.
this has genuinly inpired me to create more movies thanks a lot ive been lacking motivation and ive honestly been felling pretty lost but you have helped me realise my true pasion!
I’VE ALWAYS HAD THIS IDEA! Being able to watch an entire movie in one shot has interested me but thought wasn’t very possible because one mess up and it’s back to the beginning.
Did you never notice the great big light on a stand at the entrance of the house ..? It's in every shot. Seems you had a lot of fun though and training like this is always good to learn how real shoots operate. It's all about heavy planning, knowing your angles and focal lengths prepping the boom and light accordingly. Storyboarding if possible. Having a script is also key for any minute detail that goes wrong in complicated shots like this because the camera operator cannot physically deal with everything at once. But hey since this is about a couple of friends messing around I hope you had a great time !
I saw 1917 a few years back when it came out and honestly one of the best movies I've ever seen. Me and my dad also wondered if they made the whole entire thing in one shot which would be crazy but it has to be one of the best filmed movies ever.
You've definately got a lot of work if you want top make professional quality stuff, but I love what you came up with, and you're definitely well on your path towards that.
I love your content, you'rea huge inspiration to me:) I wanna go into filmmaking when I'm older and I love making my own short films and watching yours
