Lore topic suggestion: The history of Exodus Black and Failsafe. The quest where we encounter the friendly Vex Harpy just blew my mind. Failsafe is one of those characters that makes me laugh and cry, alternating over and over.
Geth Infiltrator The Exodus Black is one of atleast four interstellar ships built by Mankind towards the end of our Golden Age. The Exodus ships all had a color designation and were meant to transport thousands of colonists to planets outside of the reach of The Darkness. The trip was meant to take a few dozen years, so the colonists were in suspended cryosleep.
The Exodus Black entered Nessus space accidentally (likely because the Vex were consuming and shaping the planet, alternating its planetary trajectory) and crashed, killing almost all of the colonists and only (seemingly) sparing a fraction of the crew.
The friendly Vex Harpy is a Vex unit that copied memories from the Captain of the Exodus Black either before or after his death to a rockfall. (How this specific Vex stays friendly and actually helps you is kinda beyond me).
And lastly, Failsafe is the Exodus Black's onboard AI. I'd imagine her name is Failsafe because she would be Plan B in case any of the crew couldnt live up to their needs. She is literally the Failsafe to the whole reason the ship exists.

Sadly, there isn't really one perfectly solid way to explain how time, or space-time, works without going into a massive dissertation.
Suffice that to say that space and time are both invariably linked to each other, and that both are -- and this is the most important bit -- relative.
Think of time as a river. Yes, it primarily flows in a single direction for those caught in its stream, but there are many different ways the current flows. Sometimes there are whirlpools, sometimes there are falls, some rivers flow more quickly than others, some slower, some are stagnant, some move in complete opposite directions!
The Vex are an interesting species because they don't seem to be trapped in the same current of space-time as those currently in Sol universe are.
They can jump in the stream, for example, and then get themselves out again. They can move up or down alongside the stream in the Sol universe, and then get back in whenever suits them.
How can they do this? Well, there are a number of theories that might explain it. They could be literally warping space with mass -- they convert whole planets, remember, and planets have a LOT of mass -- causing time to bend back onto itself creating a loop. They could be using mass to rip holes in the fabric or our universe -- like making a black hole -- to move to another parallel universe (Multiverse Theory) with a time stream that works a bit differently as mentioned above, then ripping another hole there in that universe, and then another, etc., etc., until they've found a universe whose time stream flows in reverse RELATIVE to the Sol (Our) universe. Then they jump into that stream and ride its currents until they can rip a hole leading back into our universe at a point in our time stream that they choose.
Confusing? It really is. This is why I love the Vex!
Unfortunately, this explanation boils down to space magic, but I think it is rather well informed space magic

So basically what I can make of this after listening to the diagram, we perceive 3rd dimension in our 4rth dimensional universe. We can also see part of that missing 4rth dimension that being time which is 0 and is continually changing. The vex on the other hand are 4 dimensional figures that live in a 4 dimensional universe and can perceive them All. (Their 4 dimensional universe is same as ours) in other words, while we only get 0 for time, they get get actual value for time which they can somehow manipulate.

13:35 what if vex appearing "out of thin air" is them jumping through time. However, the vex gate from which they travelled into when the left was not there upon their arrival i.e it hadn't been built yet. Really just a one-way time jump and they'd need another gate to get back

The Vex "teleportation" and "time travel" are probably two sides of a tesseract(Hah! Geometry joke!). One travels through space, the other through time, which are both components of the same thing- spacetime. We cannot travel through time because, for us, it only flows upwards, but the Vex could possibly travel upstream, downstream, and hop off the river bank and take a nap.

@@fsmith45 Possibly. It does appear that the vex network is some sort of adjacent/perpendicular plane to reality, considering how the season of the splicer presented it.

The one thing I would like to know is that if the Vex preplanned worlds like Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Io with constructs that predate humanity but there are none on Earth (I know that the Traveler kept the Vex from turning other worlds in Sol into machine worlds like Mercury during the Collapse but I mean before the catastrophe that forced humanity to near extinction). It makes you think, was Earth a variable that the Vex weren’t able to predict and with that failure of calculation could they had not put constructs on it. Nothing would of stopped them if they would know of Earth, humanity pre-collapse would of been powerless to stop them.
The question still falls to why not Earth?

I have my own theories on the Vex that probably differ from Byf's to some degree, but my theory as to why certain things (like Earth) are unaffected or as to why they don't go back in time to wipe out humans before they became guardians etc. Is because the time line that Destiny exists in is the only time line in which the Vex can succeed. They presumably operated without interference for god knows how long until they encountered the traveler and guardians. I believe that everything in the past up until when the Vex encountered the Sol system is not immutable, but that they simply won't change it because in their minds the past before contact with the guardians is "perfect". I would further guess that they were content to simply try and understand/study the "light" until we destroyed the VoG. Now, guardians are a threat and presumably they've had time to grasp the concept of light and rerun their "vex win" simulations with the light now factored in. Their conclusion, guardians must die now in this timeline and everything will be on track again.
Why don’t the vex just go back far enough in time to the period before the Traveller?
Among0Shadows I believe because they werent introduced to our realm/dimension until AFTER its arrival. Oryx brought them after the Traveler was already in the Sol System and after our Golden Age.

Among0Shadows I believe if they did that, then guardians wouldn't of been able to save them from Oryx. Remember the vex saw their own end at the hand of Oryx in paradox. Hence, them sending praydeth?? To summon us.
Marlon Thomas yep. They know that they need us because apart from the ascendant Hive, we are the only other paracausal beings in the universe. For exactly the same reason that the Vex call us "that which we cannot simulate", they think the same of the Hive. And because they know that the Hive can use their gate networks against them, they reason that we are, for the moment, a necessary evil. We have also protected them from the Fallen and the Cabal.
The question is, what will they do when they dont need us anymore?
Pi Eater thats a cool thought. One idea is maybe the vex need to have built a gate in the past to use it later. They cant just go hopping around to any time in all of existence. There is a sender and receiver but maybe both have to be built in their own time before they are turned on. If they did not make a gate close enough in spacetime to earth then maybe they cant arrive during the fall. Im sure someone has a post on the origins of the vex and when they arrived in our solar system. We have to understand how they travel trough time before we wonder why they didnt just arrive during the collapse. My thought for the vex’s form of time travel is thinking along the lines of the movie “Primer” if you havent seen it you should. Primer’s version of time travel is unique and one that makes you think about the true possibility of time travel and how it might be invented. There are so many kinds of time travel, in fiction especially, but we arent sure how it works if even possible. Not to mention how bungie has written it to work in their work of fiction. If it is im sure someone or something will understand destiny’s lore before the end of the universe. Lol

Maybe because the traveller also comes from a different dimension as well. It could explain why the Vex are having trouble simulating the light and the paracausal aspects of it. Until now.

The vex seem to be a 4 (or higher) dimensional being impinging on our 3 dimensional existence using the constructs to interact on this dimension. They can quite literally walk to last Wednesday.
John Molloy If they were fourth dimensional they wouldn't have need to write themselves into a 3rd dimensional universe. Their goal is to be permanent and survive the end of the universe. Why would a 4D being be scared of the end of a 3rd dimensional universe?
And also the fact that the Vex are already confirmed to just be q bunch of radiolaria communicating across time and space via hivemind shenanigans and grow themselves he the quadrillions everywhere the go really pokes a hole in that speculation.

Byf, You are one of if not THE BEST Destiny Lore you tuber out there. Whenever I want destiny lore, you almost always have what I'm looking for. I don't know if it's that British accent that I've envied ever since I've started watching you. Or if its it's your incredible narration in your lore videos. But you are my favorite CZcamsr and you should be incredibly proud of your channel and all that you've accomplished!
Byf, Excellent job explaining but you still have the one essential problem which you pointed out: if all the time travels forward how can the vex go backward? (travel isn't exactly the right word because travel itself involves time but I think we get the idea) You should look into Eignstein's theory of space time (which is much more proven than string theory) it will help explain this principle.
To summarize, in order for vex to reach these pockets in the universe, the nether regions, they must be able to traverse space in a direction other than the three cardinal directions, they must be able to travel a fourth way. However, Einstein's theory suggests that time is simply another direction to see. In other words, each moment in time sits in it's own pocket of space like a nether region. I think the vex have been able to adapt their technology to not only travel a fourth way (aka into the nether regions) but also a fifth direction (aka time), thus enabling them to travel time as easily as they traverse the myriad.

They can walk through time at our rate but they also see whats ahead of them and behind them every step of the way like we see space making the choice to return to the past and they have their internal clock of time (their 5th dimension) that dictates their life and what they remember/experience. Hell yeah we are on to something. if they walked back ward through time there would be two of them the first one (moving forward through our time) and the second one (moving backward through our time) To us they would look weird , like they can make choices in our future that affect our past. Their shot could hit us at time 0 and be fired later at time 1. To us it could look like things happening in reverse. Gravity momentum , every thing! If the vex have this power. Holy shit! The angle and speed at which they walk through our time will affect the rate at which they can act in our reality. Im taking this to far. Its been fun! This is actually surprising to me too. I think this is like how time travel works in the movie “Primer” , kind of except in the movie they dont have the power to do it themselves like a muscle. Fun to think about! I mean the vex are machines!

Hey Byf, could you give a little explanation about the robot in the tower that works for Calus? How did he get there, and do all of the other robots in the tower have a connection to Calus? It sounds kind of stupid, but it would be pretty cool to know about, if there is anything to know of course. Hopefully you eventually read this and respond...

Counter theory, while the vex do have a dimension that time operates differently in because they can control it, this dimension acts as a nexus point to branch in to multiple timelines. Picture if you will multiple rivers (each represents a timeline) and a bridge that crosses over all these rivers. The bridge can move all over across the rivers and has parts where one can jump off in to the rivers and back on to the bridge. If time travel is no issue than branching off to multiple timelines is simple as long as you have an anchor point

That would explain why Hive gods can not kill anything in centuries or millennia and not die, because the tithing system is good but not that good. It would also explain why Oryx walks ten paces in his throne world while Crota fights the Vex for centuries. What are your thoughts?

epicponedge 117 thats not really how holidays work. It would be nice if it did though. It mostly about tradition and capitalism. They probably have an equally good holiday for those things they just call it something else. It would be hard to convince people to start a new holiday for that reason alone.

It is a good suggestion i dont know anything about British holidays. Very true it should exist, maybe there is a cause that could bring people together and no it wouldnt have to be official. I think thanksgiving has some relevant stigma ( pilgrims , native american etc)but the idea is still there. Go at it spend time with your family and friends and convince other people to do it yearly too. If anything be creative and plan something your self with family and friends.

EDIT: (edited on 11/29/17 12:34 EST) First I didn't mean to translate any destiny passive-aggressive hate, but if anything a destiny passive aggressive disappointment, I knew this game wasn't worth the money by the end of the beta and what Bungie replied to fans on some game defining changes. But no, because ppl said D1 was gonna die and didn't doesn't mean the same for D2, veterans of D1 stuck through the bs of the game b/c of Bungie's track record of games and hoped the sequel would like GOTY quality(D2 definitely isn't), and w/ what D2 is the fans aren't gonna be duped twice until real changes are answered in the long run. _So yea I tricked of $260+ dollars in hopes my money would help them make a better game and to me, this not better than CURRENT D1._
Second I did NOT tell him what to do, I clearly said "suggest" because from the next DLC BUNGIE STILL doesn't seem to be listening, and whats the point of ppl watching lore on a game they don't like, let alone play. There are tons of games that have extensive lore, and Bfy has shown multiple times his interest in other games; not saying the transition to include other games will be easy but look at Mr. Fruit, it was pretty hard at the start, but he's great rn. Also maybe dabble in some mainstream shows.

You're awesome Byf, i find Vex lore to be amazingly complicated and in some cases quite frightening since they can (in some cases) erase you from existence as if you have never existed so yeah, I'm really into Vex lore and I'd definitely like to see Vex-related content in the future

Great lore video as usual and BTW your really giving me new ideas on how to play dawnblade, using Phoenix dive the way you do. I always tend to forget I have it. And only really ever use it to regain health never thought of using it for quicker mobility to drop from great heights. Pretty cool. Keep the great content coming

The "netherverse theory" you're talking about is exactly what I've been under the impression of from the very time I started researching Vault of Glass lore back when Crota's End dropped. It's very plausible and only seems to become more and more consistent as more story content surrounding the Vex and the Hive becomes available; it seems like this is exactly the case with the Vex gate system and the Hive throne-worlds.
