  • Caroline M. Acen (Afroetry) is a Kampala-based poet, spoken word practitioner, activist, and the founder of Echo Minds Poets, an all-female performance poetry collective that spotlights the African woman’s story.
    She is the author of Dry Parched Land and Married to society.
    She was shortlisted for the Haiku Africa prize in 2017, and was selected for the East Africa Poetic Hour battle in Kisumu, Kenya(2018 and 2022), and performed at the “bodies, unprotected” festival in Frankfurt. (2022)
    She also performed at Bagamoyo International Festival of Culture and Art in 2023.
    She was nominated for the Janzi Awards under the outstanding spoken word category (2021) and the women in talent award( HerWit Awards 2023)
    Her work has appeared in Amnesty International activism podcast (2022), Atlas of transitions biennial festival in Italy(2020), Writers Space Africa, Afro-women poetry project, Broken spine artist collective(2020), Old love skin(Poetic voices from contemporary Africa),Best new African poets (2020), Millennial voices poetry from East Africa (2020)and Akina Mama wa Afrika.
    She is currently the president of the Poets Association of Uganda.
