Being revived as a vampire didn't corrupt the pillars. They were corrupted when the Mind Guardian went insane after finding Ariel dead. Which was at the same moment Kain was being born. Thus he was tainted by Nupraptor's madness. There are two ways to restore balance. Kill Kain, or purify him. They chose the later path in the end. With Raziel holding the Pure reaver, and allowing himself to be absorbed by the Reaver Kain held. After Defiance, new guardians would be born. As intended.
One of the best cut scenes in video game history. Very deep and epic all around just part of one of the most underrated and unappreciated game franchises ever. A sequel to LoK Defiance is long long overdue, if you ask me.
DarkSektori I loved the way Defiance ended. Like everything that was predicted happened and despite the fact that we were all told why would happen, we still didn't see it coming. Not to mention it was also somehow a twist in that Raziel chose to sacrifice himself. Such a beautiful series.
I remember this scene from when I was 14 years old. At the time, my grasp in english wasn't exactly adequate, so I really didn't understood much of what they were saying. Yet the voice actors printed so much into those characters, that I was able to understand the message that they were trying to convey on just the way they interpreted their lines. It's truly amazing that even today, this scene is one the best acted out scenes in the history of games.
If Kain were to sacrifice himself, pillars would have been restored for a short time, but human guardians would have faltered eventually and then there wouldn't be anyone to stop the hylden from dominating the human race. The pillars were never designed to be used by humans. Janos spelled it out in Defiance "They are not competent to serve." Too vulnerable both physically and mentally. The game was rigged from the start.
@@130lukas And Moebius made sure of ridding Nosgoth of almost ALL vampires, first by manipulating William the Just into the Nemesis, and as his armies ravaged Nosgoth against King Ottmar and the Armies of Hope in the Battle of the Last Stand, he happened to leave his portable time streaming device near Azimuth so that Kain would find it, and programmed it to send him back to when William the Just was young, which led Kain to prevent the rise of the Nemesis, only for Moebius to give William the Soul Reaver, introducing a paradox when Kain killed him, and galvanizing a second vampire purge as part of Moebius's plans for his master, and ensuring the odds were stacked against Nosgoth, no matter what decision Kain made.
@@130lukas No kidding. If not for the Chronoplast, Kain wouldn't have begun to find a way to make the coin land on its edge, even as it introduced a more insane paradox with the rise of the Hylden Lord in Janos's body, and the events of Blood Omen 2.
I'd love a video of just some of the badass things they both say, like defiance when confronted by the sarafan "throw down your weapon vampire and we'll give you an easy death!" "i would tell you the same, but it would be a lie."
Yeah. I thought he meant himself initially, before learning the Pillars were made by the ancient Vampires to seal the Hylden away after their war with them.
At first when i was a lil kid i thought that Kain was the bad guy, but as i grew up and played all the games i understood that Kain did all this to save Nosgoth and his vampire kin (the edge of the coin). Kain is more benevolent than he seems.

Well, in defiance he actually did started to suspect that he could be the Hylden Champion, (just as Moebius had planned), but he refused to believe this.
@tmoneysn he cant, history can only be changed when the two incarnations of the soul reaver meet in time and space

its very unlikely that Kain saw Raziel's wings as a sign of the hylden champion. It makes more sense that he realises he is the VAMPIRE messiah, and actually thats what he did. Kain never really even imagined Raziel was also the Hylden champion, you can tell this from their conversation in the Avernus Cathedral, in which Raziel believes himself to be the Hylden Hero, while Kain only sees him as the vampire messiah and doesnt get why Raziel so strongly believes they are destined to fight to death
This game and Assassin Creed 2 and the Walking Dead were the only games that gave the feeling I'm part of it , incredible characters , awesome story line
Because between Moebius, the Elder God and the Hylden, the chances of something going sideways was way too big. Besides at the end of the day, Kain wanted to rule more than a barren wasteland.
I dont know if you're joking or not but he's a vampire... How does he plan to continue the species if he is the only one left, you ask? Ask Raziel and the other brothers. As long as there are humans or bodies in the grave apparently... -dont know how he turned raziel... wish they'd explain that- One vampire is enough.
HAHAHAAHH............u knw kain says he widnt kill himself as he is the last vampyre and tht wud mean the anihalation of the species....BUT...how does he plan to continue the species if HE is the ONLY one left??? ;)
Wait a moment, if Kain was to restore the pillars by killing the guardians, why was Kain the only one who didn't count? Kain was killed in the beginning of Blood Omen, which he was revived. Why not kill Kain, bring whatever to the pillar of balance, bring him back as a vampire, kill the guardian that would replace him, and then go about the killing of the circle?
ydoubother Technically you also need to bring a part or artifact of the guardian to the pillar, plus since Kain is the Scion of balance he couldn't die unless it's from the soul reaver, he just went to the demon plane like in the end of Defiance
@@KalakauaGodHimself Because of prophecy. That is the centerpiece of the series. Sadly I don't think simon templeman could do an HBO series, but i would so love a netflix nosgoth or something... but how the hell would you pull kain off without him? At least with Tony Jay there are people who have made whole careers out of being sound-alikes.

William Plaud I need that on a t shirt.
I could listen to these characters banter for hours.

as intended though: without the parasitic influence of the elder god who forced the evil cycle of death and rebirth which kept his servants ignorant

There have been several sequels in the development. All canceled.

The other way around. HBO or Netflix would kill the soul and passion put into the writing and acting seen here.

it was all a ploy by the elder god anyway. it didn't matter which race won as long as he got his souls. Double rigged indeed.

This game was amazing. It's not often you find a game with a plot worthy of a novel.
the dialogue in this game is on point, as well as the voice acting. fun fact Raziel is the voice of Chaz Drew and a few others on the Rugrats xD
Best dialogue in gaming history!
one of the all-time best written scenes in gaming.
The pillars would eventually decay, because they can't have human guardians (Mortanius realized this).
One of the most poetic scenes in a game- hands down!
It is very sad that the story was never ended and the last game was never finished
it's a temporal pincer movement. Raziel never realizes that hes seeing people backwards
kain finally addmited he didnt want to throw him in in these sence if you listen
