India and Sri Lanka faced each other in the 2nd ODI at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka posted 240 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in a tough batting pitch. India started the chase well but collapsed yet again in the middle overs against a brilliant Sri Lankan bowling attack. Sri Lanka won the match by 32 runs in the end.

I literally forgot this was a rank turner pitch when Rohit was batting. That's the class of a top player. He is easily the best player of spin in recent times. Other batters have a lot to catch upto.

I am an Indian and I don’t have any issues in saying this, watching Sri Lanka put up an inspiring fight and win it was good to watch. Sanath Jayasuriya has given that aggressive mindset to the team which was lacking for some time now. It will be interesting to see Sri Lanka play in ICC tournaments as well.

Rohit played well but that was a completely unnecessary shot that he played to get out. He needs to understand sometimes that it's an ODI game not a T20I. Got out early in wc 2023 final as well. Need to understand the importance of the wicket too.

Totally agreed brother. People often say that it is Rohit's natural style of play and there is an entire batting lineup that can handle things, but it is a time tested formula that when the in form batsman stays till the end , the game can be taken away from the opposition. We know how lethal Rohit can be once he settles , that is why the opposition is happy to dismiss him early. He did the same mistake in the final of CWC23 against Maxwell , after which India could not capitalise on the start they got.
@@suprith5443 yes you need to add more runs in the powerplay if you're batting first or if the target is 300+. Not when you're chasing 240. Same thought process should have been followed in the final. When you've already hit maxwell for 10 runs, there was no need for another shot. You have to bat 50 overs too. That is a priority as well.

ODI is a totally different format compared to T20, selecting Dube into an ODI team based on T20 performances is totally bizarre. Infact Gambhir himself says so.....then how on earth is he in the ODI team? His bowling is average, so average that even MSD never gets him to bowl. To be successful on ODIs for a long time technique and footwork is an absolute must. And perhaps the selection committee has forgotten that finisher doesn't mean a pinch hitter, its a person who can hit it long but at the same time also knows how to play the situation. There are so many other better players.

There was a time when indian batters used to dominate spinners. Sehwag didn't even consider spinners as bowlers, even Murlidharan was not spared, Now looking at these IPL chhapris, What good are these players, Can't play on fast swinging wickets, can't play on slow turning wickets, Where will you perform ?
You missed Dravid, Tendulkar, Dhoni, Ganguly. Ganguly is an exceptional batter of spin. It's high time to put brakes on IPL favouring flat pitches. All teams found our weakness. Any series will be a tough track. Players loose wickets like these.

But the main batting lineup of this ODI team isn't really full of IPL players, right? Like at least Virat, Rohit, KL, Shreyas have made a name for themselves outside of IPL. I'm not sure about Gill. If anything, the lineup of the Indian team that played the T20 series against Sri Lanka was full of mainly youngsters known for their stints in IPL. That T20 team still managed to win their series 3-0, but this experienced ODI team choked.

It's disheartening to see the Indian batting order crumble like that. However, kudos to Sri Lanka for their brilliant effort. I miss the days when Sri Lanka was a formidable team with legends like Vaas, Murali, Mahela, Sanga, Jayasuriya, Atapattu, and the great Arjuna Ranatunga. Hopefully, we'll soon see a powerful Sri Lankan team competing fiercely against India and other major teams. It gets monotonous if India keeps bulldozing opponents series after series.
