I've seen loads of ppl crochet plarn bags for the homeless, even have considered giving it a try myself, but this is totally mind-blowing & inspiring! I look forward to checking out some of your own videos.
I have been crocheting shopping bags and rugs for 10 years now. I donate them to a children's charity shop. I cut bags into strips, knot them together and use a large crochet hook. PLEASE REMEMBER "NOT" TO USE PLASTIC BAGS THAT BREAK DOWN AFTER A YEAR OR SO!!!! We have many such environmentally friendly bags in the UK. Backed with strips of of rubber car mats they make very good rugs for back doors and bathrooms .
It was so interesting watching you do this. I remember people having these rugs when I was a kid and they were really durable. what a great way to recycle. Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Thank you for sharing. My granny had woven bag rugs all over, small ones for kitchen sink and shelves, I just never knew how she made them. Thanks for the memories and thanks for the smiles.
I have always wanted to weave rugs. I used to have every one save the bag the news paper came in because in the 50's & 60's we did not know what plastic grocery bags were lol. But I might see about if Ace hard ware store would drill me the holes and cut pegs longer so I would really enjoy this. Make them for friends and my own house. God bless you for being a great teacher and helper I'll need to save all my bags lol. Thank you.
This is a fabulous loom, process and product! If the loom is of your and your husband's design, I would RUN to the nearest patent office! I could easily see this loom being sold at Hobby Lobby or Michael's! I bet the rugs could bring you a pretty penny, too! If I knew anyone who I thought could make this, I'd be on the phone right now! Wonderful! Rachel D
Absolutely enjoyed the video. Has your husband thought about selling theses? I would be interested in purchasing one. I make purses out of these bags and have so many bags, would love to do this project. You are a wonderful teacher I must add. Be Blessed because you are Blessed by the best!
Truly amazing. Just amazing. Love to see people making things out of our resources we have around us. New subscriber here. Thank you for the inspiring video.
Fantastic! ~And so beautiful! Love the color coordination! Love how you taught and demonstrated your creative process. You and your husband are great! May you both continue to be creatively Blessed! Thank you for sharing!
Very informative. Im not sure how to start but this is a super easy and fun video. Definitely worth watching. Lots of helpful tips. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful design! I was already making plarn but I think I'd like to try weaving vs. crochet (even though it looks like you have to use a table and stand a lot.)
This video was very inspiring for me. I really don't understand the concept of the thumbs down and I'm even more confused by people who use it. This is a fabulous craft idea and could be used to help so many less fortunate people. Of course it would take quite a bit of collecting to get enough bags to do this. I guess you just have to recruit people to save for you. Thank you for your video.
I think thumbs down come from selfish and hateful people who are jealous and angry they didn't think of it.... or, completely uncreative people who can't conceive of why someone would do this... Neither of which I could relate to!
I love it! I’m saving up my bags to make a rug however I cannot find the pretty colours that you have. If I find a store or two that have them I will try to barter for a few. Thank you so much for posting these wonderful videos. You have inspired me and made me much more aware of what I am doing to the earth to help it last longer. Bless you dear lady.
Is it slippery? Love this idea and one of the few looms I don't yet possess. This one I can make myself. Thanks for sharing so much information. You're very kind and a great teacher.
I love the look of loom rugs, but don't enjoy the time consuming "shuttle" method. This looks to still take time but I bet it goes much faster. You are a great teacher and I really enjoyed this video.
Stacy Johnson My mom crocheted one for the homeless but her poor hands are so gnarled up with arthritis, she could only finish the one after a long time but she finished it she did. I loved this video. If I were you just lay on the floor and mark with a pencil at top of your head then sit up with legs straight and mark bottom of shoe. Then add a bag more for a man. Usually they are taller. Then you will know how long you need it or google how tall the average US man is. Add bags accordingly. I'm sure you will have 4-5 bags in length.
Even if you cut the plastic bags to make very wide strips, a 'P' hook would be pretty holey crochet fabric. I am going to use this method to create some panels as 'artwork' for a makerspace I belong to. Collecting the bags has taken a long time, but I think I have enough for at least one panel 4' by 6'.
Thank you for your demonstration. You are a great teacher. I have never seen weaving done that way. Is this your invention or is there a history about it?
Peg looms are a really old loom style. I saw someone demonstrating it on a video. I had to try it, but the looms were pricey. So we made one and I already have a homeless sleeping mat ready to bring to our local shelter. This is the first rug I made for my shop. My goal is to alternate between sleeping mats, and rugs for my shop this year. It is really a fun process. The time is preparing the bags. The weaving goes so fast!
What a great design as well as a thoughtful project. Would you mind sharing the design info on the heavier wooden piece (e.g., spacing b/w the pegs, the diameter of the holes; the reqs for a 3-foot wide design vs a 4-foot design etc.? And, thank you in advance for your project info. What a terrific way to simplify the process! And the result: a lovely rug/bed with function!
I had a 48 inch piece of wood to work with, so I put the holes 1.5 inches on center apart. The dowels I used were 1/2 inch, so the holes I drilled were 1/2 inch also. I drilled down one inch. The hole in the dowel to pull the material through is 1/4 inch. I hope that helps.
Very much appreciate your taking the time to explain this technique so thoroughly. My DH made a peg loom for me but I've been hesitant to jump in and just DO it! I mean, it'll be a rug, not a tapestry for display! :) "Done is better than perfect."
You didn't say how long your board was or how wide, also you didn't tell us the size of your lower PVC pipe is. This is the cleverest project that I have seen in a long time. I love new crafts and, since my hands no longer work so good at 78 I still love to do them.Thank you so much for sharing. And yes I still can use a skill saw and drill even if I am an old lady.
love it love it God has truly blessed your hands to help the homeless I do it as well we all should contribute because truly we are all homeless waiting for Jesus to show us our room in the Kingdom of Heaven that is what the Bible says so great job take care and thanks for the demonstration
Hi Mom, Thank you for sharing your great idea. You've inspired me. Can you tell us about how to best use the rug? Is it best for the back door to wipe your feet? For in front of the kitchen sink? In front of the bathroom? How durable is it? Whats the best way to wash it? In a bucket, or with a garden hose nozzle?
I use the rug outside on the sidewalk, going into my garage. I have used one under the pool ladder to keep dirt from getting into the pool, and outside of my tent while camping for the same reason. The one by the garage has been there for a couple of years, it's worst enemy is green mold, as it is always in the shade. Each spring I throw a bucket of bleach water on it and use a broom and garden hose on it. The other ones clean up just with a garden hose.
Mom Eberhard how fast do they deteriorate in the sun? Do they seem to hold up to constant foot traffic pretty well? You said you had one outside for a couple years--what's the longest one has lasted? I love the simply loom and your video has inspired me to start saving bags and t-shirts! Thanks for sharing!
Your method is the most uncomplicated one I have ever seen on you tube! Have you tried using the thicker plastic bags now being used by Walmart or target? They cost 10 cents each if you don’t bring your own. Also does it matter if your pegs are even or odd? I’m going to try this for sure. If I could give you two thumbs up I would. Love your method!!
I have not tried the thicker plastic bags. One of my viewers will have to try and let us know. Although the sheer number of bags needed for a rug would make that a long time saving of bags. I doesn't matter if the pegs are even or odd.
Like all the other commenters I loved your finished rug. What a blessing to be able to make things like that for the needy.
I've seen loads of ppl crochet plarn bags for the homeless, even have considered giving it a try myself, but this is totally mind-blowing & inspiring! I look forward to checking out some of your own videos.
Wow. You are a born teacher! I've watched other demonstrations, but yours was by far the clearest.
This has to be the most interesting you- tube DIY I've ever ever watched! Thank you so much for sharing this idea. Amazing!
Wow, you could make a huge rug with that loom. Must be nice to have such a skilled husband with the power tools. Great video. Thanks for sharing😊❤️

Truly impressive! I don’t use plastic bags, but I’m so glad to see that yours are put to such good use!
well!! that was amazing. they would also make a great cushion under a dog blanket also. thank you for the tutorial.
Inspiring! I've collected plastic bags for almost a year, so, I have a craft room full of boxes of bags. Now I know what to do with them!
They do sell them, but they are pricey. Look for "Peg Looms". If you know anyone who has some basic wood tools, they can make them.
@@momeberhard5265 Thank you so much for the information!
I love your tip on how to keep track of your weaving when you pull the pegs up!
I never seen a weaving unit like this before. That is really nice. I'm going to save this video in hopes of one day making one of these.
Very nice. You and your husband are geniuses when it comes to making things and recycling.
Absolutely enjoyed the video. Has your husband thought about selling theses? I would be interested in purchasing one. I make purses out of these bags and have so many bags, would love to do this project. You are a wonderful teacher I must add. Be Blessed because you are Blessed by the best!
How creative. A great and cute way to recycle plastic bags. They would make good sleeping mats.
You did a great job on this training video!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Who would have thought plastic bags could end up looking so pretty!?! I enjoyed your video!
Thanks for the video and very clear instructions. I crochet with the plastic bags. Looking forward to trying to weave them. 😀
Great video. Very informative and the camera work was well done! Thanks!
thank you for a clear and enjoyable tutorial!
Very nice work. Good to know you can use plastic bags for something useful. Thank you
Truly amazing. Just amazing. Love to see people making things out of our resources we have around us. New subscriber here. Thank you for the inspiring video.
A very unique way of weaving, but it works. And it looks so easy to do! Great video, thanks!
Fantastic! ~And so beautiful! Love the color coordination! Love how you taught and demonstrated your creative process. You and your husband are great! May you both continue to be creatively Blessed! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for sharing how to make something useful with these bags that end up as litter everywhere. 😊
Really good video. I loved the helpful hints and tricks you gave.
How very clever! I love your explaination and think I need to go buy a drill!
Nicely done. Thank you for sharing.
Love it! Such great colors too! Well done and keep up the good work!

Awesome work on that rug!
This is so neat, great job
This is great, thanks for the demonstration
The loom is a awesome creation and I like the technique
Beautifully done.

I LOVE your dog. White shepherds are so beautiful. My grandma had one when I was a kid. They are so sweet and intelligent. :)
I love this! It’s such a great way to reuse plastic. Your voice is so calm and kind, you’re a great teacher.
I love your videos... Great Job. :)
Beautiful puppy!!!
I love this video and at 77 I love new projects and I love giving them to friends and they just keep bringing bags
Very cool!
Very pretty!
Great video on how to use the peg loom to make a rug

Brilliant. Thanks
Is it slippery? Love this idea and one of the few looms I don't yet possess. This one I can make myself. Thanks for sharing so much information. You're very kind and a great teacher.
beautiful
I luv it!!! To bad in California we don't get plastic bags anymore 😩
wow..amazing..
Amazing
Nice!
I love the look of loom rugs, but don't enjoy the time consuming "shuttle" method. This looks to still take time but I bet it goes much faster. You are a great teacher and I really enjoyed this video.
Good idea thank you smart lady
A very fun and interesting video. Thank you!
Could you use fabric strips instead of plastic bags?
I haven't tried it with Cotton fabric yet, but I have made them from T-shirt strips and they turned out great. It made a great bath mat!
Is this conducive to using cotton instead of plastic bags? How big is your base?
WOW would love to try this in a bigger size to make the homeless mats which are 4ft x 6ft
Grandma made this to step out of the sower. Now I can do tlhis!
Genius
Love these videos!! Trying to start making some mats for homeless in my area. How long did it take to weave this?
This "little one" of 200 bags took me about 3 hours from start to finish. The homeless mat will take you about a day.
That is so kind 💜
Stacy Johnson My mom crocheted one for the homeless but her poor hands are so gnarled up with arthritis, she could only finish the one after a long time but she finished it she did.

This looks easier than crocheting the Matt but if you crochet the use the P hook. I think it's the largest plastic robin egg blue one.

when you pulled the pegs off after the first round of weaving, it blew my mind. thats crazy

Oh yes I’m doing this!!!
Where did you find the pink and other color bags?
WOW
love the way they look,do u sell them and for how much ?
I have an Etsy shop, search for "CraftyPA"
Yoga mats!
Love your video! Where are you located?!
Pennsylvania, USA
also far apart are the pegs placed
My pegs are 1.5 inches apart on center. I chose that because I was planning on using thicker materials. Many looms are only 1 inch apart.
How do you wash it?
Hose it off with a garden hose
I could see how if you made these wide enoght it would be a good Thermo blanket for homeless people , that is water proof and lightweight .
Your method is the most uncomplicated one I have ever seen on you tube! Have you tried using the thicker plastic bags now being used by Walmart or target? Mom Eberhard thank you very much Mom
Lovely. But wouldn't the plastic be slippery?
These are outdoor mats, so no they cling to cement, and don't seem to slide in grass.
I'm sorry to bother you, but I have one more question How many bags wide to make the homeless matt?
24 pegs or strings of bags. 36 inches / 1.5 inches apart - 24
