  • Oddly specific? Yes.
    Replacing batteries on Panasonic Dentacare EW1211.
    This is where I ordered the spare 1.800.8 Panasonic 1.2v Ni-MH 1100mAh batteries from:
    www.espares.co...
    I ordered the iFixit 64 bit driver set from Amazon:
    amzn.to/2Mvgu41
    And I got the MINI ES121 electric screwdriver from Bangood:
    eu.banggood.co...
    (The above two affiliate links)
    It turns out Panasonic do have instructions for changing the battery on their website but the PDF is in spanish:
    ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/oralcare/om/ew-1211_en_om.pdf

    Thanks for the disassembly video! Sure was easier than I expected!
    A couple of AA batteries does just fine, even better because AA batteries are easier to find in good quality.
    The receptacle terminals can be slightly bent to make contact with the battery ends, even without the weird bars.

      Bent and put some plastic from old bank card between case and terminal. And better to use double sided tape to be sure, that batteries are still in place.

    Thank you Alex; I had exactly the issue with dead batteries, ordered the replacements, followed your guide and we are as good as new again!

    Thank you for the very clear guide. Got 1/2 way there and still had to explore the little Torx screw in the top end.

    You don't need to remove the torx screw to replace the batteries.
    Also, I have a manual for the original EW1211 in 18 languages including English. I don't mind uploading it somewhere if somebody needs it.

      If you go to the Panasonic website for the region of the world where you live you should be able to find a manual in your language.

      13€ la pile, ça fait 26€ les deux et 30+€ avec livraison, alors que le produit neuf coûte 36€ 😅

    Very many thanks for this useful vid. My EW1211 seals had failed and caused water damage to the PCB. (They need conformal coating really.)

    Thanks Alex, could not have done this without your video, very fiddly to do. Try to avoid the batteries going flat by using it regularly.

    Thanks a lot...... The gadget is perhaps designed in a way that the batteries can't be replaced...... It was a major hassle right from opening it, sourcing the batteries and assembling back. It wouldn't have been possible to do but for your guide

  • @Dashboard193
    @Dashboard193 Před 3 lety +1

    Judging by the cleanliness of this machine Alex is working on a new one. I found the batteries didnt come out anywhere near as easily as that, some corrosion had set in around the terminals and 'welded' them in. And no you do not need to remove the torx screw.

    • @616C2D7867
      @616C2D7867  Před 3 lety

      I did take the opportunity to clean the parts while doing this. I found there was white limescale residue on some surfaces, mostly obvious on the blue tank.
      The splits between parts had collected some gunk. The sealed areas were clean however, I think you can just about see a tiny bit of corrosion on one terminal at 2:44, so maybe humidity was still able to get in. NiMH are meant to be quite good at not leaking electrolyte unless overcharged/overheated but apparently it does still occasionally happen.
      I think I worked out the Dentacare was 4 or 5 years old when I did the battery change.
      Were you still able to replace the cells and get it working?
      And yes, the torx screw can indeed stay in if you're just changing the batteries. I think I was just having a bit too much fun with the driver set!

    Thank you so much, Although once you got to pulling the battery and motor internals out, it looked just like a sex toy, as I have done this for a friend who watched me pull it apart and then said "if I had of know it was this complicated I would have just bought a new one" I then Glared at them very Sternly.

    I bought my battery from Espares and after replacing the old one the water jet worked well for a while but it didnt last long. Now I get two uses before the battery goes flat. Either its a counterfeit or its a manufacturing fault.

    What is the battery size? I want to check if an battery type AA may fit.

    • @gebeleysis
      @gebeleysis Před rokem

      Yes, AA batteries can be made to fit. Those weird 1.800.8 batteries are just AAs with extra bar ends. If you're willing to slightly bend the receptacle terminals it'll make contact with AAs just as well. However, keep in mind the bar ends were providing extra rigidity which you'll have to compensate, by example by re-using those foam stickers.

    I have a similar model, only that it's the "w" variant, and it held it's power consistently throughout the 2 year lifespan, but now it suddenly loses power, can be this be due to bad batteries?

    • @616C2D7867
      @616C2D7867  Před 4 lety +2

      If it does still charge when placed on the charger but just looses power quickly with use I'd guess it probably is the batteries degrading. If it has suddenly stopped working and doesn't run even after charging I'd be concerned something else has gone wrong. If you have a multimeter you could maybe check the battery voltage before and after charging.

      You may have to suck the water through the nozzle with your mouth whilst switched on in order to prime it. Had similar problem and that fixed it for me.

    • @616C2D7867
      @616C2D7867  Před 5 lety +1

      You're right, there area only really 3 screws that need removing. It can however be helpful to remove the straw when re-assembling to make sure it is properly inserted into the rubber tube section (the one wrapped in a spring) and avoid any leakage on the inside of the device.
