    My friend, thank you so much. This was a great video. I just bought the ridgerunner and I've been watching a lot of how to's about it. Next to Shug, yours is the best. Even WB's video was sketch. Trying to figure it how to get a 20-25 angle appears to be the toughest part of this hammock. Glad I found your channel. Looking forward to more of your videos. ✌️🤟

    Note that a twisted webbing suspension is sometimes viewed as a feature, not a bug, because the twist acts as a water break - or so I’ve read. Note that on the RR hammock and the SpinDrift sock, the WB logo is at the foot end. But on the Lynx UQ, the logo is at the head end - go figure. Also WB suggests a 12 inch difference (at the spreader bars) between foot end (higher) and head end. That seems like a LOT to me. I’m with you on “a little bit” - like 6 to 8 inches. But WB suggests 12.

  • @kellycarlen9605

    Great video. I use a similar setup, except I don’t keep my Beetle Buckles permanently attached and I loop my dogbones directly onto the Beetle Buckle’s arms (or hooks or whatever you want to call them). Out West a lot of hangs are on sappy softwood trees (pine, spruce, and fir) and I do this to try and keep sap off the hammock when packing it away. I also have carbon fiber poles from Ruta Locura. I did go with a three piece head pole for packing.
    I agree the underquilt set up is super easy if using Warbonnet’s Lynx. I use the “flip over” technique too.
    The red tag on the head end of the stuff sack is a good idea. I made red dogbones that help me orient the hammock.
    Have you tried making a “daisy chain” with the tail end of your suspension to get it off the ground? You already have the first loop with your slippery half hitch.
    Happy hanging!

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  Před 5 lety +1

      I’ve had people leave their straps so many times. For me, leaving them attached has worked out pretty great. I do get sap on them sometimes, but it has never been an issue. I I’d see the 3 pole option, and it was better for packing. 2 pole was a little lighter. Looking back, I’d get the 3. Thanks so much for watching!

  • @joshbeoddy2124
    @joshbeoddy2124 Před 4 lety

    The hole you are threading your continuous loop through on the beetle buckle is is intended for a spreader bar not suspension. The continuous loop is pulling your beetle buckle open when loaded with your weight. That is why your straps are slipping. Simply larks head it around the "anchor arms" instead of through the hole and your problems should be solved while still staying connected when packed away.
    5:30 shows clearly what I'm talking about. Hope that helps, I can see how annoying that would get!

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  Před 4 lety

      I gotcha. I do have the loop through the hole and around the arms. This prevents it from opening up. However, I’ll try just using the arms and not the hole as well. Thanks for the tip!

  • @johnchry1
    @johnchry1 Před 5 lety +1

    Nice Rob. Picked up a couple good tips! As far as your straps slipping, I believe your fabric just has that tendency. I’ve heard others also complain. A knot seems like the best insurance. I just use the black polyester ones with the beetle buckles. A little heavier, but solid. Your soft shackle was a good addition. Saves some weight. You get from Meyers Hammock lab or Nick at Triple Nickel Outdoors?

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  Před 5 lety

      Tying a simple knot isn’t a big deal. I got the loops from Mr. Nick at Triple Nickel. They’ve held up so far! Thanks for watching!

    This was a great review. I’m a stomach sleeper and wondering how flat is the lay when sleeping on your stomach? If you remove the head-end spreader bar from the center loop, would that allow your head to lay flatter when on your stomach?

    • @robpelton
      @robpelton  Před 5 lety +2

      The Warbonnet Ridgerunner is a pretty flat lay hammock. If you are looking for the flattest lay. Insert a sleeping pad in the sleeve. That really flattens it out. Not using the loop on the headend would be pretty negligible. Also,the Amok Dramur is another flat lay option. However, I have no experience with it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    I just got my RR hammock last week and wish I could return or sell a couple of my other hammocks is how much enjoy this type of hammock (granted I haven't camped in it yet) lol. One question I have for you is I've been hanging it with trees about 17-18 ft apart. With that much distance there's no way that I could get the shock cord for the head or foot end to reach the tree to get it more off my face. Did you get longer shock cord(I know from another video you changed the cord locks which I plan on doing in the near future)? I have hooked it onto my tarp ridgeline that helps, but wish it was higher. thanks in advance.
