- The final 5:15 of one of the greatest musical compositions of all time, The Firebird. Composed by Igor Stravinsky, masterfully performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and passionately conducted by Valery Gergiev, if this doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, nothing will!

Best ending in music history
Hard to argue against that. Oddly enough, the finale was used by the prog rock band Yes in the early 1970s to open their concerts, where the final bars of the Firebird blended into their opener, Siberian Khatru.
I think it's Bruckner 4th symphony
@@johnjepsen4243 bruh no
@@jenthefwen The Doors, The End.
@@johnjepsen4243 Hmmmm . . . if you're going to go with The Doors, then really it seems to me the very best ending from them comes with The Great Gig in the Sky.
The difference a conductor can make........
Listen for how long Gergiev holds out the final chord. No wonder it brought the house down.
Grace Bumbry's reaction at 5'00 kind of says it all.
I checked and he holds the final chord for about 12 seconds while other orchestras are generally more around the 6 to 8 seconds. He's pushing it but I love the passion of it.
A piece like that deserves that long hold. And he keeps it on tempo which was amazing.
I have the upbeat part as my ringtone. I still get chills thinking of Yes taking the stage back in the seventies.
I love the sound of the horn starting the solo and the melody
The comment about Stravinsky vs. Gergiev as conductors of this work reminds me that I have always used Stravinsky as a prime example of a great composer who did not fully realize what he had created. I know this is true of some great playwrights as well Anyone who belittles the impact of conductors and directors doesn't know what they're talking about.
Absolutely!!!
one of my favorite endings and what an interpretation many thanks
Maestro Gergiev owns the Firebird. This is the ultimate rendition. Such inspiration, such intensity. He lifts the whole orchestra, amazing how the horn section can deliver this! Every time my heart start pounding like mad, temperature raises. What a performance.
Wonderful version - my zAll Time choice as my own funeral epitaph in sound!
The intensity, the complete surrender to the music. Some may poke fun at Gergiev but in my estimation he can only be admired and respected for bringing these musicians to the level at which they performed.
This is my soul music......
@@michaelmichelz7899 Fantastic. It sounds like you have depth. Best to you in this largely unappreciative world.
InstaBlaster.
Totaly agree!
He is dramatic, but really good
ARE YOU EVEN KIDDING ME? The last few notes he conducted are the best! The notes in the end of the Firebird Rescue episode from LE were quite long, but not as long as these, but those notes are much shorter on most comps. BEST ENDING!
OMG....unbelievable! Those brass players have iron lungs....such a long chord but glorious! He had woodwinds come out of thin air @ 4:18..beautiful intepretation! Bravo!!
Michael N. Amazing playing, but the brass section probably couldn't have held that note individually do they all breathed at different times so we couldn't hear the gap
Wow! I’ve only just “discovered” this conductor and so far, each time I’ve seen him I enjoy it more. I started with Prokofiev’s Symphony number 1, 1st movement then the 4th movement then this. Superb music from a superb orchestra by a superb conductor. I love the way he puts all of his passion into it.
Brilliant performance! Gergiev has such control of the orchestra and his own abilities with great confidence. This allows him additional enhancements to the performance as seen here.
i... wasn't expecting to cry
How can Gergiev make everything 1000x better
I love how the camera gets closer and closer and closer and closer to Gergiev at the start.
This performance of Stravinsky's marvellous work, the Firebird, is quite magnificent. Stirring and spectacularly conducted by Gergiev, I watch it over and over again and it never fails to amaze me.
Almost forgot to listen to this this week. Almost.
Yes! I hate it when most orchrstras play this too fast. How amazing
Absolutely magnificent!
Indeed the best finale of its kind! This to me concludes the entity of Music from the Renaissance to the Post Romantic Period of Music! Bravissimo!!!
love this music was a great piece used at the end of Fantasia 2000 beautiful
Magnificent! Great feeling, passion, and control at once.
Truly brilliant
My God! That sustained note in the end! GOOSEBUMPS ALL OVER! :"D :"D And the audience went wild for all the right reasons!
The goosebumps started at 0:59 for me! How crazy this music has an effect on people!
I saw him conduct the Mariinsky at Carnegie Hall in New York with the full "Firebird" in October, 2013.
Also at Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris on May 29, 2013 with "Le sacre du printemps".
He remains one of my all-time favorite conductors.
Pretty sure I'm like 300 of the 103,278 views so far. Complete bliss every time. The shimmering beginning, the swirling rise, the triumphant statement, the step back, then punch after punch, power on top of power, then the complete smacks of perfection hitting each cheek until my eyes roll back, then another brave step away, and then the roll of completion. It's kismet, it's serendipity, it's the realization of galaxies put into sound.
This is fire
Man looks like he's run a marathon before rushing over to conduct. Probably a good sign because this shows how passionate he is
WOW ... that was amazing, you could see Valery was 'feeling' every note of that piece .. :O
Gergiev brings out his inner Trevor Phillips at that last chord...
En 5:03 American opera singer, Grace Bumbry, applauding! :)
Gorgeous rendition. Bravo.
Gergiev is a mad man and brilliant
Sublime...a Masterpiece
Absolutely perfect.
0:48 the 2nd violins note sounds HAUNTINGLY beautiful.
Gergiev greateast of all time.
Magic Gergiev.
Stunning
Interesting to listen to Stravinsky conducting this and then Gergiev. Stravinsky is a better composer and Gergiev is a better conductor.
😵
Powerful beyond words! Thanks!
MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
j'avoue ne pas vraiment connaître ce chef d'orchestre...mais plus je l'entends , plus je l'apprécie.....bravo pour cette interprétation
I believe he's the head the Mariinsky Ballet/symphony in St. Petersburg. Probably the premier symphony in Russia.
WOW!
Merveilleux !! Tendre et magistral à la fois
You are Messiah Gergiev.
THAT is the best rendition I have ever heard of this piece. BRAVO!
No the best rendition of the finale is in Disney's Fantasia 2000.
samtemdo8 , it’s not a yes or no question. dick.
If you're a YES fan like right here!
THE BEST RENDITION EVER....!!!
This would make an amazing closing ceremony for LA 2028 Olympics
Being at the brink of WWIII, I hope Los Angeles exists by then... Unless it is lost by a deadly earthquake!
Update: I hope the Coronavirus is no more by then.
@@DonVal86 It won't be. It might still have affects by then, but the actual virus won't be around by then.
Magnificent
3:57 onwards.... holy shit.

*in Laganga Estranja’s voice* OH YALL WANTED A FINALE
When you know that life is at its best with Stravinsky and Gergiev
I always expect to hear the start of Siberian Khatru
... épico,
¡fantástico! ...
Jorge Alfredo Gonzalez Gonzalez epico buena musica
*Siberian Khatru starts up*
hahahaha
LOL
That's where I discovered it too! The only classical peice I've heard that's better is Nimrod by Elgar. This is phenomenal too however.
Crud I missed this. YES!!!
@@madeofstone1901 same here... But there is so much more powerful programmatic pieces out there. Death and Transfiguration Richard Straus. The movie the Goonies, that's Borodin's Prince Igor.
Now think of how Yes uses this glorious finale as an Opening for their live performances.
Jack Torrance conducting the orchestra ! ;)
This is epic, Gergiev went nuts, looks like a medieval priest...
Vielen Dank mein Freund für diesen "Hinweis"; das war ja wohl mein größtes Erlebnis der orchestralischen Sinfonie, mir fehlen peinlicher weise die Worte.
He holds that last note an insanely long time, but it is perfect!
Gergiev is god

I keep expecting "Siberian Khatru" to start up at the end.
I miss the tuba at the end. Top heavy.
RIP, Fishy....
Have told my family to play this as postlude at my own funeral. Best send-off music ever!
We have to remember that Stravinsky wrote this piece as a ballet so he would have used the rhythm of the piece for ballets not symphonies.
hello music work goodbye my normal youtube recomendations
I'M SHOCKED IN BLISS...AND YES THAT ENDING .....SUBLIME. WEBSTER FAILS ME KNOW ..BE WELL ONE AND ALL..YE OLDE WOMYN OF MILL ENDS PARK PORTLAND OREGON
4:26
When Jack Nicholson gives up acting for conducting 😂😂.
It's interesting listening to all those sostenuto chords when, if you take a listen to Stravinsky himself, we wants them so short and dry. I remember being shocked by Stravinsky the first time - but now it sounds invariably right! Start at 11'15" czcams.com/video/IrMGqAmjbug/video.html
Is it just me, or does it suddenly look like Jack Nicholson (in "The Shining") is conducting Firebird at 4:27 ?
Who’s the first chair flutist? Know the face but can’t place the name.
If anyone who watches this would like to leave a comment, I recorded the same piece performed by our local symphony, The Imperial Symphony Orchestra (ISO) of Lakeland, Florida, and I leave a link here for you to watch and share your thoughts. I think they do an incredible job for a small town symphony, and never fail to amaze me! czcams.com/video/EELHO-94T50/video.html
did you notice the sweat on the conductors face and hair?
+Jackson Taylor (SimpsonsFan1989) No
Well, he conducted the suite and he got all sweaty.
Gergiev looks like he's 20
Barak
Wonderful performance, terrible audio quality :(
Either you're an audiophile or you only listened to the first 58 seconds! Either way, it's just fine for us common folks. :)
Also this is the 2000s, this is what you should expect.
Shower, shower, shower
Pffff...... who says 3:23 should be take slowly. Not Gergiev. No sir. And he's who I put my faith in when it comes to the Russian arts.
Why are there no women in the orchestra?
My question is why is he sweating so much
Jesus Lamar Jackson doesn't sweat that much
Fair dos to old igor but, I think we can all agree, my music just has more finesse and is a lot more professional.
What do you mean? You have no videos, how can I know your music is better?
Where's the women musicians? Not good nuff? Lol
indeed, not in the year 2000 . today you will find women musicians in that orchestra.
Can we see the orchestra. Maestro always looks disheveled.
Dude needs to shave and get a haircut!
