    What do you mean by discovered if people were already there?

    • @Oldhistory
      @Oldhistory  Před 10 měsíci +2

      'discovered' by european settlers. The area around memphis had been known about by the french and spanish since the 1600s.
      of course the natives were already there, and they had likely known about it and been there for hundreds or thousands of years prior

      @@OldhistorySo it was discovered already by the Natives. It was their home. Lol Discovered? Like if i went to my neighbors house and discovered it and everything in it. Oh it's mine now, I discovered it. It's called stealing.

    What's the story behind that picture with the pyramid? I can't find anything online about there being a pyramid building there before the early 90s.

      A fallacy on my end. This was taken at the centennial expo in Nashville in 1897. This shows the Memphis Building and the Nashville parthenon, both wooden structures taken down shortly after the expo. This photo was not taken in memphis as I had originally believed

    You should narrate this. It would make it more accessible.

    Interesting presentation, thanks to Old History. Unfortunately, there is gaping hole regarding who the original population of Memphis, who they were, what they looked like and what they had already established. They were Black but not African--though supposedly a few Africans were enslaved in those parts. So to refer to them as as African Americans is an affront.
    What's conveniently left out is the fact that plantations existed all over the southeastern part of the country, including Tennessee, prior to the arrival of colonists, but I'm sure that's a subject for another time.
    As for Elvis Presley, history attests to the fact that he was a thief, stealing his music and style from the originators of rock n roll, who were also black folk. But, I digress. Ric Flair, well, I guess I'll give it to you on that one. Even though he lifted his persona and "flair" from the aforementioned community, he still worked it like a G.

      i like that constructive crit.. and i will agree with you. and note that a remake needs to be planned. i chose not to include much of Elvis' history as who doesn't know Elvis, moreover who doesn't know he is from Memphis? i did NOT know he lifted his persona from Ric flair. that's interesting. in several of the videos i make, ive made a conscious choice to disclude lots of information, as if i included everything i could about per-say, Memphis, Nashville, or even Oak Ridge. i could very easily turn each video i make into minature documentaries. but in that fact i would lose viewers, as with long videos some people would just get bored and scroll on. but choosing to not do so opens up many opportunities to make other smaller videos instead of cramming it all into one super long. but im not entirely sure myself why i did not include the vital information you mention in the first paragraph.
      ^^^ verdict? i demand a remake!

      Thanks for the reply. I certainly realize the need for brevity, especially given the attention span of people nowadays. That said, I appreciate anyone willing to sit down and invest time and energy to produce something that is both informative and entertaining. It was both. Thanks again

    "?" In 1866 - the Irish were just immigrating to the US and Signs Read: "IRISH NEED NOT APPLY" - They were segrated from the White Population and working along side the Blacks and Asians.

    Nathan Bedford Forrest owned a Slave Trade Business on Adams St Downrown between 1st and 3rd. Building is still there.
    The Irish were likely British of N Ireland, at that time the immigrants were largely from County Derry, Nothern Ireland and Scotts Irish. Anglo Saxon aka Germanics.
    The Irish of Irish lineage were far to poorly to be aggressive and not to say they wouldnt do what was necessary for food money, but they hadnt entered the ranks of Police particularly in the South.
