    I always put the item in a clear plastic produce bag. I use the free USPS clear, self adhesive document holder to put the label in in case it rains. I always put a thank you business card inside. Pack it like you want to receive it. You can use the small poly bag for Priority Mail, just put a PM sticker on it.

    AWESOME VIDEO!!! Okay, I have a question. What do you do for lighting with your pictures? I have observed the fluorescent shop light on a wall in a few videos, I know you have discussed how to build a light box and I know your are grandmaster genius at conjuring objections into lights/lamps. But in some of your videos you say there is not enough lighting. How many lights do you use?

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 10 lety

      Thanks! Turning objects into lights is definitely a weird quirk for me! I may make a video on how I do lighting for my clothing. But honestly I am not the happiest with it so I am not sure I want to recommend anyone else do it my way. Right now I just have a 4 foot shop light above and below the item and I use the flash unless I am up close to the item where the flash would wash out the color.

    Best best best way is used Padded mail & boxes, Stay away from white plastic thin AND usps's priority mail in paper cardboard envelopes. Because they both are not tear-proof & waterproof, they will likely get chance of damage and torn mail package when received. And remember lots of tapes not just seal peel sticks package-tape when need it!

    I think it's worth mentioning to be careful when cramming clothing into envelopes because when ppl go to open their pkg w/scissors or knife, and the item is stuffed in the pkg, it's very easy to cut the item when opening the pkg! It'd be a shame to have the headache of a return from something as simple as taking a few extra seconds to stuff paper in each end, so when they open the pkg, the paper may get cut rather than the clothing!

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 9 lety

      I doubt it would fit in a Regional A box but if it did that would be your cheapest option. Otherwise I would list it using the shipping calculator, weight based. Once it sells depending on the location of the buyer I would either ship it weight based, or see if a Medium Flat Rate, or Regional B box is any cheaper.

    I just skip the regular FR envelope and go for the padded FR. I charge shipping so if they will pay $4.99 I don't think $5.35 will make much difference. It just looks nicer to me and it's easier to close. Can you still get priority tape for free?

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 10 lety

      It depends on your PO if you can get the PM tape. I go through so much tape that I just quit asking at my PO. I started buying some tape that is only $1 a roll so I figure its a small expense.
      Its worth asking your PO if they will give it out for free. Especially if they know you and a majority of your items ship PM

    Great video! I was wondering, do you ever use regular flat rate boxes rather than regional rate? When is flat rate cheaper than regional? I usually use a medium flare rate box when I ship heeled shoes, and the large one if I'm shipping a long coat. Also, do you ever ship an item that doesn't fit in the largest flat rate box? What would be the cheapest way to ship it? Thanks in advance!

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 9 lety

      I think I have used 3-4 regular flat rate boxes over the last few years and thats shipping thousands of items. They are almost never your cheapest option especially with clothes. For the heeled shoes I would try a regional A box. If they dont fit try the USPS "Shoebox" its tall and narrow. You can find it on USPS.com. For the long coat I would try the USPS Priority mail box #7. It is about 12x12x7 and is NOT a flat rate it would go by the actual weight of the item. For a large coat you may want to try shipping it using Parcel Select (formerly known as Parcel Post) in that case you can't use Priority Mail boxes and need to try finding plain boxes to ship the item in. Hope this helps!

      The padded USPS envelopes you can order free from USPS.com and they are flat rate so it doesnt matter how far they are being shipped. They cost about $5.50 to ship depending if you purchase your labels on ebay (cheaper) or if you pay for postage at a Post Office (more expensive)

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 8 lety +1

      The weight of the box and how far it is going will determine the price of a package in a priority mail box if the box is not a flat rate or regional box.
      To know how much shipping will cost you will need to know the senders and receivers zip code as well as the weight of the item.
      If the correct postage is not paid for then the item will either be returned to sender or the receiving post office will hold the item with "postage due" and the receiver will have to pay the difference to get the package. If they dont the package will be returned to sender

      Iryna Caro Acosta The post office rarely carries the flat rate padded mailers, you need to create an account on the USPS website, and order them there for free. When you go to print your ebay shipping label, there will be an option for padded flat rate envelopes. Make sure, when using the padded bubble mailers, to select "padded flat rate envelope". You can also ship clothing in the standard cardboard flat rate envelopes available at the post office.

    • @TheStruggleville

      eBay has a box for it but you dont always need to fill it out. If all 3 dimensions (length, width, height/depth) are each less than 12 inches then you don't need to put the measurements in the listing. If any dimension is over 12 then just measure the package with the item(s) in it.

      A hoodie or sweater will always be over 13 ounces. Your best option is to try and stuff it into a padded flat rate or just using a regional A box.
      The poly mailers work for most kids and womens clothing, t shirts, polo shirts and button up shirts. Pants and sweaters are just too heavy

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 10 lety

      It depends how much you are trying to put together. In the past I have been able to put 5 mens shirts into one of those padded flat rate envelopes. Your next best option is one of the Regional A boxes. If that doesnt fit try a Regional B box. If it still doesnt fit your best option will probably to just ship it by weight.

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 10 lety

      Thanks! Some smaller shoes may fit in a padded flat rate but even then I am not sure I would advise that. Your best option is a Regional A box. Boots and larger shoes may not fit. At that point you may be stuck shipping weight based. USPS.com has a long narrow box they call a shoe box. Depending on weight, zone 7 or 8 might actually be cheaper in a Medium Flat Rate. In the event you cant use a regional A box and are shipping weight based I would set up the listing with the weight and then after the item sells see which is cheaper, weight based or medium flat rate.

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 7 lety

      If the items weigh 3-4 pounds your best bet is to try and get them into a Regional A box. If you can't fit them into that you will either be stuck just paying for weight based shipping or depending how far the package is going a medium flat rate may be a cheaper option.
      If you can't get the items to fit in a regional A try the trick in this post (struggleville.net/shipping-tip-suck-it-up/) you will be amazed how much it shrinks down clothes!

    • @TheStruggleville

      The bubble mailer is bigger by volume. I am guessing that is why it costs more. It sounds like you are printing your labels through Paypal. I dont think Paypal has added the other shipping options when printing a label through them. Amazon doesnt offer the other envelopes either. If you print your labels right from ebay, you will see the different options

    I have a question. I’m hoping someone reading through the comments can answer it. Say I’m shipping something through priority mail, and I use a regular priority mail box, can I crumple up and use a few priority mail tyvek envelopes as packing material to fill the empty spaces? Also, say I am again using a priority mail box, to ship priority mail, can I use the padded flat rate envelope to protect items inside? Can I get in trouble for doing this? I’m other words, would this be considered a criminal offense resulting in a misdemeanor charge etc? I mean I know not to use priority mail if I’m not shipping through priority mail, but I mean, in this case, I am shipping through priority mail, so why not make the free supplies useful?

    great video, but I was told at the post office that if you ship in flat rate cardboard envelopes they have to be flat and cannot bulk up, like they do when you put clothes in. Is this true? Also, where I can get cheap poly envelopes - great idea for 13oz or less items, I've been using flat rate padded envelopes should consider these for lighter items. thanks again

    • @TheStruggleville
      @TheStruggleville  Před 10 lety

      Definitely get yourself some poly mailers, they are lighter and are pretty cheap. I buy mine on ebay - stores.ebay.com/valuemailers/ . That is who I buy from. And that is NOT true about the post office! The USPS DMM (Domestic Mail Manual) states that the box must be able to close by itself and you cannot reconstruct the box. Those are the only restrictions. I'll do a video on it soon.

      @TheStruggleville  Před 10 lety

      Thanks, I will try and make a video explaining the various options of the shipping screen on eBay!
      How much you can make really depends on the amount of time you are willing to put into it. The sky is the limit. Some months I am busier with other projects but it is not uncommon for me to gross $5,000 in clothing sales in a month. Its work though, its not free money.
