You missed the guy with a multilayer goretex suit.
-10C = no problem with heated grips
+40C = no problem with vents opened
-25С = no problem at 100kmh with dirt cheap rain suit and few layers of fleece clothing👌
Yep my riding buddy and I just invested in a $2000 outer laminated goretex jacket each! Even got the matching gtx pants and gloves, and we're dry and warm in any weather!
Aerostitch is always the answer
Yep, aerostich and a heated liner , best combo
I bought a Motoport Suit with rain and thermal liners… Been comfy at 70mph and 37F and 105F…. Also in pouring rain…. Have both Winter and Summer Kevlar gloves too…
A good tip to keep your hands warm when riding, is to use latex gloves underneath your normal gloves. It doesn't sound like much but it really works.
also makes it proper for wet weather
Sadly makes my hands profusely sweat.
I have sweaty hands as is, I imagine it'll be a flood down there if I do that
@@peepee27 this! this is the problem!
Nomex flight gloves fit under most gauntlets, and don’t make your hands sweat (then later freeze).
You are spot on with the weather watcher for me. Thats what you become when 70% of winter days around here is wind, rain and damp weather.
You forgot the guy that rides up until the day it's snowing and then still debates with himself to take the bike anyways
Lol that would be me.
The only time I didn't ride last winter was when there was active snow/freezing rain... once the roads were clear visibly bike was out on the street
I don't plan on giving up riding no matter the amount of snow or ice or weather
@@lIlIllIlIllIlllIllIIIIIIIIIlIII’ve just started riding properly and I’m the same. Just sold my car think it’s bike life now. This will be my first winter any tips on good gear?
That's the procrastinator lol
Laughed so hard at the Checkers bags in the boot.
I'm not riding with waterproof boots, and my boots were still wet on Tuesday from the Cape town rains we had on Saturday, despite the daily commute. So I was rocking my Checkers bags well into the week 😂😂😂
Bro 💀😂
The best tip for wet boots (or even just your regular shoes for that matter) is to stuff them with newspaper or paper towel when you get home. Replace the paper with fresh paper after about 20-30 minutes and then again after about an hour. You'll find that after the second lot of paper they will be reasonably dry, so you can either put a 3rd lot in or just let them air dry after that.
@@mad082sss that is a fantastic tip. I will give it a try tonight after yet another wet weather ride
@@mad082sss I will give that a try, Thanks for the tip
@MatthewMcAllisterBUSHIE i found out about it about 10 years ago and have done it many times. Make sure to stuff them reasonably tight with paper for best effect.
If you want them dry super quick and have a bit of free time, you can just sit there with paper towel pushing it against the inside of the shoe for about 30 seconds before changing to a fresh piece, and going section by section. You can have them mostly dry in about 20 minutes that way (i did it with my daughters shoes that i had to wash 1 morning, they took less time due to being smaller).
4:30 bro I thought I was the only one who does all this. And in fact, I don't feel like taking all that off and often my friends all get surprised when I tell them how many clothes I am wearing😂
We live the same life 😂
The All-seasonor I ride every day rain or shine... Some days are better than others, as one would expect.
20 kilograms ago, I used to be the 15 year old trying to ride his 2stroke vespa in the snow. I couldn't afford winter gear so i had 3 pairs of trousers on 😂.
if its working why bother... :D I use 2 long johnsons+a t-shirt under my leather jacket in winter :D
0:40 "He might be exhausting to watch" caught me dead
Been there as someone who's riding his bike to work everyday. Got my license last year and rode through the winter, even snow (unvoluntarily as it came by surprising while I was at work, even though I'm a notorious weather checker only to decide to ride nonetheless :D ). Layers are very important, as is thicker gear in general like winter riding gloves. But without heated grips, your hands just will get cold, something we winter riders will have to live with
How is the traction while riding in the snow? Is it alright or do you have to ride in the car tracks?
@@BIGBigBoiNICK I've be using the tracks from the other cars. The traction is pretty much non existent, so you have to bee very careful with throttle and breaks und ride as smooth as possible. Might be another story with off-road tires
Wind deflectors a la barkbusters and heated grips...👍
That McGuyver hack really works, you never know, where you end up. I once found myself riding soaking wet, late at night about 200km from home and without money. The temperature was about 7-9 C. With what few cents i had on me i bought plastic carry bags from a petrol station and stuffed under my wet jacket. That probably saved my life. (Also if WC has a heater hand dryer - thats an awesome place to get warm, just crouch under it ) Anyhow, a piece of advice if you ride in cold - things happen, so just in case, stuff an emergency blanket (its like foil thats gold on one side and silver on another). That thing takes almost no space, is light and may save you. Drive Safe!
Was laughing until I was called out...the weather watcher! I do this during the months I ride, in the winter, she gets put away.
Another pro tip! Use the old MHW: Motorcyclist Hand Warmer. Otherwise known as a hand dryer at a rest stop or McDonald's
I call them the bacon dispensers because of the icon on them.
Works better to put the gloves under there for a few mine
Lmao I did this the other day, stopped at a garage for a piss and couldn't feel my fingers. Smashed the gloves under the air dryer and made them nice and toasty. Was absolutely fine for another 15 minutes
your videos are so much fun... and I can see you have put some really good effort into making those character intro-style thing.... keep up the goodwork.
Haha, funny comparisons!! I ride all year round, I have many clothes to dress appropriate to the conditions, even when it's -10 and dry you can perfectly ride your bike, just use layers, tight to the body looser ones on top to trap air. Only when conditions get "dangerous" I'll take the car, luckily I have rear wheel drive to make the ride a bit more interesting 😅
Sheer brilliance, I haven't laughed that much in ages, thank you.
Hahahaha….this was so funny, thank you….i think in 30whatever years of riding I’ve probably been all of these guys at some stage! 😂
Maybe not the MacGyver….but i can totally see that.
I use heated gear from Warm and Safe, so I guess I'm a softy 😅 But I'm a happy softy! Plugged in to the battery, there are no limits!🎉
The betrayer ahahahah
The worst for last
And it is the one I related Wilhelm 😂
Man, this I now enjoyed!!.. Me, personally? Im a combination of a weather watcher/steamy stallion...🤣🤣🤣
Lol you forgot the guy who drops by the coffee shops to grab themselves a hot drink on the way to where they are going
wait, you're telling me that you don't get cooked alive in your gear?
(winters are just an urban legend where i live)
This was hilarious!!
Grabbed the exhaust manifold the other day thinking the leather will be fine loool.
was warm enough but seared the finger tips of the gloves .
haha ya winter here is fun ...
Ah exactly what I needed as it's boiling hot over here atm :P
Last winter all i had was my bike into late November! It was not fun riding to work with temps in 30°F. Had so many layers on i start sweating immediately if i went into a store on my way to work!
I would regularly ride in November, even early December, at 3-5 Celsius. Heated grips, heated gloves, heated vest under the jacket, hot sticky patches in boots (over toes), and wrist protectors. Pants with a waterproof membrane and jogger elastic pants. I always had a blast and it felt cosy and comfortable.
in 20F weather, i use a few top layers, neck gaiter, wool socks, heated gloves, and double pants layers. i've tried the latex gloves but they leave my hands wet and cold. heating on the engine helps a lot as i cruise with one hand. wet weather gear on top of all this also helps to stop the wind from piercing open areas. it's possible and very enjoyable being on an empty road. be safe out there guys
Never been offended so many times in one video.. so accurate.
love the content, best in ZA
Winter riding? 48°F, that's a warm day, a beautiful day ! Lol
That's about the morning low here I ride in summer.
The "coffee stopper" who stops every 3 miles to warm up and/or pee
Hahaha brilliant, I think I recognise a bit my myself in all these types 🙂
squids in my area uses ski jacket usually (optional)
Rode in the Joburg snow last week Monday, wasn’t fun but was warm in my Gear 🤘
A Joe Rocket Survivor suit and a Milwaukee battery powered vest keeps me going when everyone else stares at their bikes in the garage.
Hippo hands are my best winter investment yet. i’m a year round rider, have never had a car, been doing it for 5+ years. they don’t work on all bikes (pretty much just don’t work on sport bikes) but hippo hands paired with heated grips is amazing. i wear summer gloves in the winter. I wear alpinestars andes gear for my winter gear paired with some merino long johns and i’m cozy, it gets cold here i live in the northeast of the states, although idk that i would want it to get any colder than it does here in the winter without getting some additional heated gear. i also recommend a touring style helmet in the winter as they seem to vent less air than my sport helmet, first time i wore my rpha 11 in the winter i literally got a brain freeze while riding, didn’t know that could happen, my f70 is much nicer in the winter time (although overall i do not like the f70)
Road 5’s are my favorite tires for winter riding, and summer riding honestly. if you don’t do track days most people will do better with a sport touring tire. and trust me i like to ride hard in the twisites and the road 5’s do great! and much better wet weather grip than a sport tire.
i’ve yet to meet another year round rider in my area, lol we must be few and far between, hope to meet one of y’all someday 😂
happy riding everyone
Well I'm the guy that puts on warmer gear and only stops rideing when the roads become icy or the visor develops a haisy layer of ice.
I have glasses so I literally can't see anything when riding in cold or rain. Lifting visor doesn't help because then I can't see for other than fog reasons. 😂
" cold weather enjoyer", I still just drive all year round after 10 years of riding and got the heated grips, good suit and the skills of riding in snow etc. couple of weeks ago we had freezing temps, but now it's a nice 10 degrees celsius again
I'm 100% the procrastinator 🤣
My ballie, whose been riding for 60 years, is the MacGyver.
Riding in the cold has never bothered me. In many ways I prefer it to warmer temperatures. It's when they start throwing grit all over the road I can feel it meesing up my bike, so feel the need to clean it constantly!
I'll own it, I'm the procrastinator....Wisconsin winters make me do it though I say :)
Haha. I guess I'm the last one. I refuse to ride in under 15c weather. And living in the cold UK - i just park my bike from end of September till early May.
Man….. this video is so relevant… went out today , here in Osaka , Japan. Knew it was going to be cold. Base layers, heated gloves, merino wool socks, balaclava… everything.
But i went to the gym first….. and when I finished I was all nice and toasty after a boiling hot shower… so ditched most of the winter stuff… headed up to the mountains…. Where it had been snowing a couple of days ago….. and spent the next 2 hours in misery…… frozen to the bone!
Hirakata here. Work in Kyoto. Man those morning commutes are COOOOOOLD already...
40 yrs ago i remember grabbing the exhaust headers at stops on a cross country ride on my cb350 or even on the move when possible
I used to put my hands on my exhaust when I got at my work before going inside. This was before I got winddeflectors for my hands and heated grips.
What worked while riding is placing my hand on the engine, could only really do this with the left side tho. I needed the right hand for the throttle obviously.
🇿🇦If I find a betrayer in Durban...I'm watching you👀🤣🤣
It will be my first winter riding on a bike so i got myself prepared. Motor jacket and pants with winter lining, motor boots with enough room for extra socks. Neck protection and heated gloves. Only checking the weather app to see how much wind there is because my bike is a bit big 3 wheeled motorscooter and that one catches wind like a sail ;-) ( Yamaha Tricity 300 )
Kinda missed my approach.. one level beyond anti squid. Heated grips, heated liners under my gear, pinlock and breath deflector in helmet, and I'll ride down to -20F/-29C as long as there's no ice on the roads.
I’ve been riding since the 1960’s . I’ve ridden every state in the Union and all year round. I wear my leathers, wool underwear , silk scarves but my hands always got cold. I tried the Hippo Gloves , helped some, then electric gloves ;weren’t that great. But the BEST thing to ever come along was Heated Grips . If you get good ones ,like I did, I actually have to turn them off from time to times as my hands get too hot.
Air cooled engines are great since you can can just hold the engine at a stop light. Between doing that and layering up I manage to survive even long rides around freezing point. But stopping for a short while is usually the best plan if it becomes too cold to continue.
Great video.
Im using PinLock for solve this 3:23, its a life saver!
Im definitely the hypothermic, i just put on my gear and deal with freezing half to death, this march it was still around 19°f most morning in east Wa and I felt like the popsicles i currently have in my freezer
I'm the type of rider that just started riding in the nice spring weather, has no winter gear, and has no idea what he'll do as his primary excuse to get a bike to begin with was to commute.
I seldomly ride in cold weather... but last time I just used my engine head as a glove warming device 😂
I have been watching your videos for a little bit now and just realised we both from South Africa (I am just in CPT not JHB) your videos are great man keep doing your thing.
Living on a tropical island our winters are not that bad (never dropping to single digits). But our rainy season and typhoon season can get pretty sketchy.
I definitely am the weather checker that goes out and doesn’t give a f.. if is raining or not.. 😂
Nice one 😄
I am the procrastinator. Have you been watching me at home?? Love your channel.
200% weather watcher. Hey, is it like winter down in the southern hemisphere? Up here in ‘murica we have a heat wave 😅
I've been a sole motorcycle commuter for 10 years. Black ice always seemed find me and I've laid many of my bikes down because of it. I just passed my car test last year, I'm unfortunately one of The Betrayer's. Just when it's icy I swear...
I was warming my knee on the exhaust last fall 😅🔥🔥🔥
“Sitting in traffic regretting his choice” 😂
I’m the commuter. Basically, I’ll plan on buying expensive, heated gear…. But cheap out at the last second and end up as a hybrid of the hypothermic and the exhaust guy. 😅
I end every ride (both to and from work) with the promise I’ll spend the money… but summer is only a couple months away, so… do I reallllllly need to spend that much? 😣
My god, I felt so called out with the weather watcher...
The ride i planned for today morning had to be postponed for tomorrow *big sigh while I look outside into the Luxembourgish June rain...*
Definitely going to be the procrastinator / weather checker
I'll let you know next year since this is gong to be my first winter as a biker ^-^
I am also wearing all my riding gear right now as it is cold here in CPT at the moment🤣🤣🤣
I mostly commute on my (main) bike. When it starts to get below 0c i buy a cheap car that has apk (our MOT) untill atleast march next year and use that every day it's below 0. I go through farmland, 80kmh roads, highway and city roads every commute, and those get dangerous when there is ice.
I sell it after, most times for more lol.
Weather watcher with heated gloves (RST Paragon 6). ❄🔥
The weird club harley rider - you see ne going 140kmh on the snowy Autobahn with rudimentary gear and for some reason I only realize how bad the situation was when I arrive.
You will meet me. I ride year round and I live in northeast pa. Usually in winter I will ride as long as no snow or icy weather. I don’t care how cold it gets because I don’t get cold. As long as you can keep wind off your skin you’re golden. You just need the right gear.
I'm the stalker. When it's cold I'll sit behind the largest vehicle ahead of me for cover. If their is multiple large vehicles i.e trucks, SUV's & 4X4's I'll be the leap froger 😂
I guess I'm the "well prepared" winter rider. (Not featured). I ride down to -20C (so far) in the mountains of Mongolia. All off-road because there are no roads near me.
I have heated grips, heated glove liners and handlebar muffs for my hands and heated socks for my feet. My tires have ice screws so there's not really much stopping me.
I love riding in the cold, only problem is the gloves are too thick its hard to release the clutch to off properly without stalling, any tips?
I do layers. Lots of layers. No matter how cold it gets, it'll always feel like 55°f or warmer because of my 4-5 layers.
Bahahah another great video
I’m the betrayer. 😂. If it’s below 10c I won’t use the bike for the daily commute.
where did you get the chin mount for gopro? ;)
Procrastinator all the way for me !! But not just because i am cold....because of the risk of rain that is gonna get my shiny Ducati dirty after spending hours and hours detailing
Time to rip whip out the ADV bikes 😂
One thing I do is wear my new gloves and I have my old pair over the top c they fit looser and keeps my hands a lot warmer and I also ride in single didgets most of the year I’ll be lucky to see 15+ degrees
Definitely a Weather Watcher, and if the temp drops below 10 C I'm probably taking the car...
I live in the tropics. My issue is staying cool in the heat 😎
I ride every day all year round. good gear makes every day a riding day
4:28 of all keyboards you could have used for this video, why one that uses mx blues? (or click jacket style switch)
Many things are upside down in South Africa. Like here we have summer and there they have winter ^_^
I am definitely the anti-Squid! Heated gloves, heated jacket liner, laminated Gore-tex. Well, even costing a few thousand it's cheaper than a good car!
Im the procrastinater ill have to try my helmet with the couch 😂
I'm the "Bike Hugger". At a traffic light, I'm trying to reach the clutch cover with my left hand and the crank shaft cover with my right hand (both at oil temperature). So I am basically lying on my tank, with my arms around the bike 😀
This was me when I had my NSR here in Japan ages ago. Face to the instrument panel, hands as deep into the fairings and close to the engine as possible. The drivers in the cars next to me must've thought I was nucking futs.
I have a Scrambler 900, I put my hands on the exhaust heat shields and look like I just died while waiting for the light to turn green. I hope the handguards I´m getting help more than the winter gloves because the wind is turning my fingers into icicles after 20 minutes.
Does anyone else do that thing in winter, where, to stop your visor fogging up when you stop, you blow downwards through the chin of you lid? 😄
When winter comes, I plan to buy cheap dirt bike and have fun in woods. Every year I plan to. Hence the wishful planner. Next winter for sure!
Immmm... A bit of all of these to be honest 🤣
I'm 8F below the betrayer (40F) for my commute to work if the temperature when I get off is going to be at least 50F.
11. The one who confidently rides through snow, ice and slush and says it’s no much differences between summer and winter riding.
Rider: freeze out base layers and balaclava. Full face helmet with pinkock. battery heated gloves with freeze out glove liners. Backup winter surfer gloves in the event battery gloves fail. Textile jacket with thermal liner.
Bike: liquid cooled, fuel injected with windscreen and fairing. Heated grips.
I’ve ridden in negative 10 F with no major issues. It’s important to understand you will never be hot: if you shiver, you’re going hypothermic. Keep the arteries warm and your blood stays warm.
