  • Well, that was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It was so easy that I am now trying to convince myself that I haven't made a serious blunder, and the suspension will just fall to bits when I ride the bike. I followed the instructions to the letter. I even remembered ‪@restdayrider‬ 's video where she put the kit upside down so I didn't make the same mistake. Maybe it was the follow up video where I saw that? Anyway, it looks OK.
I didn't do a test ride yet because it never stops raining. Also when I had to remove the gear linkage last week to refit the shortened sidestand I wasn't able to get the gears working properly afterwards. I think it's all right now. But it still needs to be checked.

One thing to consider John is that if u get abit heavier u will automatically push in the suspension more and get lower to the ground so next time u go shopping, go for the donuts mate. Not because u want to, but because u have to.

Well done mate , but I doubt if you'd have been able to do it without Mia's input . German Shepherds are very wise .
My knees were aching in sympathy just watching you kneel on the floor .
You've got a good rainy day bike now , no need to get the Harley all dirty .
The humped seat on those Himalayans is a pain in the arse , or leg . No need for a hump , if it were mine , I'd cut it down a bit to make mounting easier [ as the actress said to the bishop ] .
I have started getting on my bikes by standing on the footpeg and swinging a leg over , much easier to get your leg over that way [ according to the bishop ] .

I will definitely have to do something about the seat. Been riding today and it is incredibly uncomfortable. Yes, I stand on the peg and mount cowboy style. 😃

Hi John, I may be wrong and you've edited a bit out, but at 14:30 on the video you show the top end of the drop links and you can see the needle roller bearings. It looks as if you havent swapped the bearing sleeves from the old drop links to the new ones. This is crucial as it the sleevecsurface that the bearing rotates on, then the sleeve is clamped by the mounting bolts to the bracket. So the sleeve doesnt move, but the bearing can rotate on the sleeve. Without the sleeve the bokt isnt wide enough to fill the bearing and will bang about, and also the bearing will try and rotate on the bolt wearing everything out very fast.
Its crucial, and safety critical that the sleeves are there. Apologies if you have swapped them over, but Ive watched it twice just to check and can't see the sleeves. Just concerned for your safety.
I changed mine a couple of days ago too, its easier to put the top ones in first, then line everything up with the long bottom bolt (use a long extension on the ratchet too for better access). I also hot the Hitchcock adjustable stand too, as had already cut mine previously. They do work well as a kit, theyve made me go from tip toe, to not quite heels down, but massively over priced for what they are, and they're making a killing on the postage.
Steering angle seemed to change by 1.5 degrees, so will see how it feels, as dont want to disturb the fork clamps if I can help it. I also took the opportunity to remove that lower linkage and grease the bearings while I was in there, as lots of videos say its not well greased from the factory, it was ok, but could have had more, which it has now.
Hope I'm wrong, but please check your bearing sleeves aren't still in your old drop links. All the best, Mark. 🙂

Thanks Mark. You were not wrong. But it is now rectified. I'm happy with the way the bike rides now but the seat is a nightmare. It's the only thing that will stop me riding the bike. There must be a solution to it. Maybe I will have to make my own seat? Thanks for pointing out the mistake. I appreciate it. You may have noticed I'm not a mechanic 😂

    • @PajeroMark
      @PajeroMark Před rokem

No problem John, glad you got it sorted. I'm a mechanic of 40+ years, so have an eye for these things. I'm waiting for this rain to go, as itching to get out on it. I've only had one ride of it, 45 miles a couple of weeks ago, and I found the seat OK up to now.
I bought mine at 9 month old 3 and a half years ago, but haven't felt up to riding until now after having to sell my TDM850 after having a heart attack and quad heart bypass. It's taken until now to gain the confidence to try it, hopefully lowering it will boost the confidence even more. It was mainly getting on and off that was the problem, always felt like it was going to tip to the right as you load/unload the suspension with your weight. All the best, Mark.

    Got few tips.
Put some paint on that scratch.
Use penetrative oil few day's before (plus gas)
Lower front by the same amount?
Give mia a treat for being good.
Sit back and enjoy your handiwork.

John, as a somewhat trained mechanic, many moons ago, it is always easier, in my experience to loosen the nut head, rather than the bolt head. You had a bit of a struggle I see with the long bottom bolt.
    But I may be wrong...?
