    Great video thank you very much. this is exactly what I wanted to see about the Ortlieb bar bag. I will be investing in one. Thanks very much Matthew

    Hi there, great review and great other content. I've subscribed and favourited the blog as well.
    A question: what is the distance between the bar straps (I have a fair bit of kit on the handlebars and want to know if it will fit)? Thx loads...Mark

    • @thebikepackingdad
      @thebikepackingdad  Před rokem +1

      Morning Mark 😊 Thanks for watching and glad it helped you out! Just popped into the garage with the measuring tape - the gap between the straps is 10cm but the foam pads are closer to 8cm.
      I did a recent video of all three bags after having used them for 6 months. On that video I show them on the bike in a bit more detail so that could help you out 👍🏻 Any others questions just ask!

    Love the video, have just bought the 17L seat pack which served me well on my LEJOG trip. On the ortleb site it does say you can attach the accessory pack which I also have to the handlebar pack. Is this true?

      @thebikepackingdad  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi Mark, glad you like the video 😊 I don’t have the accessory pack but I believe you loosen and use the 4 hooks (compression straps) and you can wrap these around the pack and the tighten up again. Enjoy the seat pack, great bit of kit!

      @@thebikepackingdad thanks for getting back to me 😊 yes really impressed with the seat pack during my recent trip. It’s a great piece of kit and look forward to testing out the 9L handlebar bag for my bike packing trip to france next month.

      Very jealous of your upcoming trip! I’m sure you’ll like it. Compresses down very well with the air release valve 👌🏻

    You say don't buy the large version if you have drop bars, but it might just work fine with electronic shifting.

    • @thebikepackingdad
      @thebikepackingdad  Před rokem +1

      Hello 👋🏻 Not sure on my width but even with my Di2 setup on my gravel bike the small version of this bag (when full with gear and 2 rolls done on each side) is still pretty much filling up the gap. Plus my handlebars are flared!
      I’m sure it’s on an individual / bike dependant basis but the large wouldn’t fit mine even with the flared / electronic shifters.
      Hope that helps 😊

    • @sz12359
      @sz12359 Před rokem

      @Ralph Reilly With electronic shifting you don't rotate the shifters inwards to shift so a wide bar doesn't prevent you from shifting.

      No it doesn't in a Gravel/road bike. It's too big to fit on the handlebar. Look Restrap that had 14l version for gravel bike

    What's your handlebar width?

    • @thebikepackingdad

      Only just seen this message 🤦🏼‍♂️ Mine are 40cm but with flared ends.

  • @Megarmark
    @Megarmark Před 9 měsíci

    On the website it says you need 40cm of clearance. Is it possible to fold the bag up smaller by crossing the straps to 20cm - 30cm.

    • @thebikepackingdad
      @thebikepackingdad  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi Mark 😊 Are you referring to the width of the bag? If so you could put less in and add more rolls to each end. However, you can only roll until you hit the handlebar tether straps if that makes sense. If that’s not helped at all ask again and I’ll see if I can do better!

    • @Megarmark
      @Megarmark Před 9 měsíci +1

      @thebikepackingdad Hi there and thanks for the reply. Yes that answers the question but how far apart are the buckle straps. I already have the ortlieb 16ltr saddle bag which when the straps are crossed over, the bag can go very small. Is the handlebar bag similar where the folding straps can be crossed over to the other side making the bag smaller.

    • @thebikepackingdad
      @thebikepackingdad  Před 9 měsíci

      @@Megarmark Mine is currently packed away due to moving house so I am unable to measure for you at the moment. In theory I think you could 'end to end' it so to speak but i think it would make it very very small and put a lot of strain on the straps. I personally wouldn't do it. I don't believe the straps on the areas you roll at each end have any excess length so to make it reach the other end would require the contents to be extremely minimal. I hope that helps and I've not confused the matter!

    6L right?

    • @thebikepackingdad
      @thebikepackingdad  Před 3 měsíci +1

      9L 👍🏻 They do a 15L also but I’d only recommend that for a flat bar setup 😊

    I shudder to think how much profit they make on these glorified plaki bags! 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @thebikepackingdad
      @thebikepackingdad  Před 4 měsíci +1

      They are very good at what they do to be fair. Plus the material on these Ortlieb bags is very strong. You could make a trip work with dry bags and straps etc but I’d rather pay the money if I’m honest. These bags have served me well in some horrific weather!
