That is dedication from Papa Booth - doing a barbecue in the dark and cold!
Loved these different meals! As a Brit who moved to Aus 12 years ago it’s very strange to wrap your head around not having a proper roast but let me tell you, it suuuucks cooking a roast in temps in the high 30’s. Did it once and never will again. Over here it tends to be more of a brunch/lunch situation with lots of fresh seafood and salads plus a Christmas ham, then I personally do a mini roast for a late evening meal when it’s a bit more enjoyable to eat. It’s mango and stone fruit season so there’s always a mango salad and usually a big bowl of cherries. Plus pavlova for dessert passion fruit on top.
I live in the southeast USA so it's technically winter at Christmas but it can be hot here, like 80f (27c) sometimes and we definitely do more outdoor and fresh foods than some parts of the USA. When I was a kid my dad smoked porked loins or fried turkey every year. We have broccoli salad usually, cold dessert/cream salads as well, but we still do a lot of heavy traditional northern hemisphere stuff!
Sometimes I wish it was cold enough to have a roast. Also seeing people going on about hot chocolates in the UK make me envious 😂
@@sarahy2799 omg me too! All I want is a festive hot chocolate and to be all toasty in comfy cosy clothes watching Christmas films. We made it home in 2018 for Xmas and I did allllll the things lol
As an Aussie that moved to Europe for work, to me it was the complete opposite! It was so strange having to adjust to celebrating Christmas in winter, on Christmas eve and at night! But, after more than 6 years in Europe, I couldn't see celebrating Christmas any other way! Plus over here we have all the Christmas markets and mulled wine
I'm Australian we have a roast but then its cold for Christmas day. Our Christmas can get to be up to 40C no one wants a hot dinner in that heat
I'd love to see you try a Caribbean Christmas. I'd be happy to send you some recipes. Love all the way from Trinidad and Tobago! 🇹🇹
That would be a great video. Love seeing different dishes from around the world
That’d be a great idea. Grace could cook her viewers’ Christmas recipes or even just viewers’ favourite recipes.
Thanks for doing Australia! The fact that it could be between 30-40c weather during our Christmas is definitely a huge factor! My family always does traditional roast with salads thrown in. The English influence is strong!
I think you would love it even more if you used olive oil instead of butter in the Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá. Here in Portugal, we mostly use olive oil to cook, it's a national treasure (although many mediterranean countries use it too ahahah)
Oh my God, I'm so happy that you have tried meals from Greece! And thank you for mentioning that meals differ from town to town 🇬🇷❤ have been following you for years, you are such a wonderful human being, greetings from Greece!
Hugs from Poland Grace !!! As a Polish I can say that my absolute Christmas fave is mushroom soup :) Lil fun fact is we actually don't have like 12 proper dishes but there is just a tradition of 12 things to eat on a table - sometimes we even count salt and pepper !
Grace is amazing at cooking! Watching others cook always makes me wonder if anyone else feels sick while cooking? Cooking takes away my appetite completely? Anyone else? I think it’s probably so weird
Cabbage wraps are amazing.
1) over season the meat as it boils out!
2)put the oil in and fry them until the cabbage browns before putting water
3) season the water with more than salt and pepper, I normally do it in veg stock.
Please retry! It's amazing when it has move flavour
yayyy Finland! 😍🇫🇮 I’m sooo glad you liked it! my personal faves are definitely sweetened potato casserole and carrot casserole, similar to what you did with swede! 😋 and actually, peas are a part of (at least my family’s) Christmas dinner, so your decision to add them to your dish was on point! ahh I’m already craving Christmas food… 🤤🤤
Do they call lanttu swede in English? I was so confused why it was the Finnish christmas dinner and she kept talking about swedes 😅 I had a comment thread recently where I was trying to explain lanttulaatikko but appearently it’s an extremely rare vegetable that few know about outside of scandinavia, and the only translation I could find was rutabaga.
(And we also have peas on christmas btw)
@@Eucis93 haha I was sooo confused too when she kept talking about swedes while making Finnish food, but eventually I realised she was talking about lanttu, not Swedish people 😂 so I wasn’t familiar with the translation either, I’ve also heard that some people call lanttu ”turnip” (but that translates to nauris?)
The English language seems to wildly use the word turnip for both kålrot/lanttu (big yellow)and majrova/nauris (small white and purple)depending on which English speaking country you’re in. But rutabaga/swede is lanttu and turnip is nauris.
yeah as an australian i can confirm that our christmas meals are super chill - just chuck seafood and meat on the barbie and have salads on the side. it can get pretty hot so we can't be bothered slaving away in the kitchen with the oven on hahaha
I think it varies. We do the full english roast and plum pudding no matter what the temperature is. That is lunch and then dinner is leftovers with a salad.
The thing about Australia is that there are so many nationalities so everyone's Christmas looks a little bit different and is inspired by different cuisines. If you wanted to do a 'traditional' Australian Christmas it would probably just look exactly like an English one. Also lol Christmas in Australia is one of the hottest times of the year hence barbeques and salads
The salads remind me of the ones you'll find in the December/January Coles and woolworths magazines not anything traditional or common. Which is really nice.
@@ashleami hahaha I know right! Give me a good old fashioned pasta salad and I'll be right
Not gonna lie I was thinking pasta and potato salad when she said salads 😂 good ol coles and woolies chicken, salad and roll would suffice a lot of us for Christmas 🤣
Yeah we often have a traditional Christmas lunch and then cold meat, rolls and salads for dinner
My boyfriend is Portuguese and every Christmas Eve we have Arroz de Pato it’s incredible 😍😍 it’s basically duck with rice and chorizo and a bunch of other stuff thrown in but it’s my favourite besides all of the deserts they make too! You should try making this dish though and let us know what you think about it!
Codfish different ways is totally my Christmas with the family. So happy you liked it ❤️ hugs from Portugal
I love watching your "from around the world" videos, they're always so fun to watch!! I was not expecting to see you try dishes from my country (Poland) so I was pleasantly surprised (and I'm soo glad you liked it) ^^ I love celebrating Christmas here, lots of delicious food, all the family members gathering together, such a wonderful time of the year.
New Zealand similar to Australia, for us its either a hot traditional Christmas roast with christmas pudding custard and cream or its cold ham salads, BBQ meats garlic bread and Pavalova or Trifle. Either is Gooooood.
The cabbage rolls are very similar to the ones we make in Poland, not necrssarily for christmas but they're called 'Gołąbki' (translated to piegons) and its the same thing but with rice and meat/veggie filling, usually served with a tomato sauce!
ukraine too! same recipe, my ukrainian grandma always served cabbage rolls for christmas dinner
Haha, similar to the Hungarian version too, I think it's a sort of Eastern European thing.
Also the carp and potato salad is the same in Hungary too, also very common to only have fish on Christmas eve and no meat. Although only one half of the country have the fish dinner, on the other half of the country stuffed cabbage leaves are the preferred dish. I always thought the Greek version was wrapped in grape leaves rather than cabbage, but I don't know where I got that from. 😂
@@deMOCKracy-xk8dj There are both grape leaves and cabbage leaves rolls in Greece, so you are right!
Yesss! Something to watch as I’m cooking most the day today! Thank you Grace!
This is the happiest I've felt in a long time, thank you for the Christmas cheer Gracie ❤️❤️❤️❤️
As an Australian I have never eaten any of those salads and I was super surprised to see them. We've definitely always done a bbq/meats with salads but in my family its usually potato salads, pasta salads and just like fresh garden style salads. Maybe some coleslaw.
Those all still looked super tasty! It was cool to see how Christmas varies country to country and person to person
Aww yesss I'm here for ALL your Christmas content!! 💛✨
Grace your videos are so wholesome.
I loved this! I really hope grace does vlogmas! The food the shopping the family fun ahhh all the good vibes xx
i was literally just watching last years edition for this and binging your old xmas content ahhh so exciting!!
Grace Booth you are a legend. I was gonna watch last years this evening and was surprised with a new one!! These are my favourites you help make me feel so festive - big love
As a Greek myself, I can say you did amazing!! To be quite honest, I don't really like the cabbage rolls (lahanontolmas) too , but everybody seems to love them hahaha The chicken soup with augolemono is an absolute fave!! Loved the video
These are some of my favorite videos that you do!! It's amazing to see different takes on Christmas!
After binge watching graces xmas content from last year, i am SO happy for this years content!!! ❤️
I absolutely adore these videos!!
I loved this! Once went to Australia around Christmas time when I was a kid, it was mid-summer in the southern hemisphere and to say my little kid brain was confused is an understatement! To me, as a British person, Christmas means hot, hearty and rich foods and cold dark weather
As an Australian I can honestly say I wish it was cold here at Christmas. Actually I wish it snowed😂😂 It doesn’t so we have what we have because it’s hot 🥵 😂
Thanks for being a bright spot in my day, I needed it today. Can’t wait for Vlogmas!
You've made a small mistake and mentioned Iceland in the title instead of Poland! As a Polish fan I was pleasently suprised when you unexpectedly started talking about Poland in the video. :P
I'm always excited when someone tries polish food but I'm proud of her for doing her best with all the Christmas meals from different countries
Greetings from Greece Grace !! 🇬🇷 That was a wonderful representation of our traditional dishes 💖👏 I loved the other dinners too !!!
SALTED COD IS DIVINE!!
Bacalhau á Brás
Bacalhau com todos
Bacalhau com natas
Bacalhau á Gomes de Sá
Bacalhau á Lagareiro
Bacalhau com Broa
Bacalhau Espiritual
Bacalhau á Zé do Pipo
The list is ENDLESS!!!
I love love love these videos where you do food from around the world. And I also love seeing people in the comments really happy about you showcasing their countries and their food.
Love seeing Aussie christmas food! Christmas in Summer took my English dad some time to get used to, but soon enough everyone loves Christmas on the beach lol
Loved this grace! Thank you so much for putting so much effort into all your videos :)
Thank you for doing Portugal 🇵🇹 💖💖💖 the only thing I’d say is that in Portugal in general we don’t use butter, we use olive oil it looks delicious still
Loved watching this. Thanks for sharing 👍 🎄☃️
Aww I loved that 💖 so much time & researching obviously went into it bless you xx fab video & v interesting
I love these kinds of videos. Thank you that looked so delicious.
just recently watched this video from last year! adored it 💕 excited for this one 💫
The Portuguese recipe was so on point! You totally nailed it
I’m really happy that you and your family enjoyed it so much!
Aussie here :) every Christmas we do cold cut meats ham off the bone, turkey and chicken and prawns. Then lots of salads fresh fruit.
Looooove how much research you do for these types of video. Content QUEEEEEN!♥️🙌🎄
You should do this same idea but with christmas breakfasts! I love this video, thank you 😊
Yay new video, cheered up my day!
these are my favourite videos love them so much!!!
Excellent! I really enjoyed this video!
Oh my gosh I love this idea!! How different cultures celebrate Christmas and the holiday season thinking that Australia have salads and such as their Christmas “dinner” is so bizarre but of course it’s summer there so makes total sense. Love travelling the world via foods and traditions💓✈️
Your mom has the sweetest soft voice❤️❤️❤️
As a polish person I was so so happy to see your recreation! My favorite thing from the dinner is always borscht with dumplings. I wait the whole year it!
Love that you included Finland❤️❤️
The cabbage rolls are almost the same as we use to eat here in Germany. We just fry them sharply before cooking it in the oven and the filling is minced meat, but mostly spiced like regular meat balls (pepper, salt, paprika, mustard, one egg). And the gravy is made out of the remaining in the pot and some tomato paste 🤗
grace + christmas content? I AM LIVING FOR THISSSS!!!
Love this vid grack! You seem so happy latley ❤️
I so hope Grace does vlogmas I love the chaotic family ones when they're putting up the tree in their Xmas pyjamas!
Love this video, it’s very interesting to see what Christmas dinners look like around the world; even from household to household world be interesting.
I live in Australia and the whole family (mixed nationalities) comes together for a Christmas late lunch that includes ham, turkey (with cranberry sauce and gravy of course) pigs in a blanket, roasted potatoes, roasted veg and stuffing.
How interesting! I might try the Greek pork roast. Thank you, Grace.
As an Aussie I have never had any of what you had but everyone Christmas is different some people love seafood some people are ham and pork or turkey with just veggies some are salads depending where you live , pavlova and trifle are always for dessert it’s fun to see how some spend there lunch/dinner
Love these videos.
I'm so excited to see this.
I love these videos! I'm from New Zealand and my family usually does roast turkey with stuffing, roast lamb, cranberry sauce, boiled new potatoes, peas, carrots, salads, and then pavlova, ambrosia, and cheesecake with fresh berries for dessert (we like a lot of options and then end up eating leftovers for days). However this year I'm having Christmas dinner with my partner's family for the first time so it will be interesting to see what their traditions are.
I love this video so much! so interesting to see the variety of different country's food, I love that you took time to research also
I can't wait to try these recipes
i loved this!!!!
Your dad is the best! 😊
yay! so excited for this video, i love seeing you cook and learning about cuisines of different cultures 💞
p.s. i really hope you try doing russian new year celebration dishes (i would say it's celebrated more than christmas around here) one day! it's a feast! can't wait for winter holidays lol
Love your jumper!
Yeyyyyy love your vids grace they brighten my day!
So happy you enjoyed the portuguese dish ☺️
The only thing is, I’ve never seen anyone use melted butter, in my family we always use olive oil. Oh and we mix the egg with everything else or do a layer of it on top
Love your videos so much! 🎉
thanks for highlighting the differences in regional greek cooking, so nice to see some light shone on greek food!!:)
Love your vids ❤❤ always brighten my day also can't wait till Christmas
Looking forward to desserts episode on Thursday 🙌💯
omg I was half way through the vid and thought how cool it would be if you did australia and BOOM!!! yayayaya
I LOVED watching this, it really made my day I just became so EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS!!! also I think you should try pastries/ sweet bakes from around the world.
Would love to see a Christmas desserts from around the world. I think all of these meals looked delicious, but Greece's really spoke to me.
Thank you much love xx
Wooo Australia!!
My family does a roast pork with salad for Christmas lunch, so best of both worlds. That Greek soup look delish!
much love from Greece ❤️
I love auvgolemono!! I'm Dutch but during uni I lived together with my Cypriot friend, and she always used to make auvgolemono for me whenever I wasn't feeling well. It's the BEST medicine!
I love that you included Greece because I feel like in these videos, people rarely do so! The chicken lemon soup is one of my favs in general because of how creamy it is. I've honestly havent heard of people making pork for Christmas but the cabbage dish seems different to what my family makes. A good tip is to actually boil the head of cabbage until its more tender so that it prevents it from breaking! It just seemed underseasoned to me, it can be in the same flavours as the chicken soup. And yes greek food has A LOT of lemon, I use lemon in everything!
Can't wait for the dessert one!!
Love cabbage rolls!
Love these videos, please make more!!
Second
You are the best CZcamsr ever ❤
I really love your content 💕 💛
Oh my you actually did Finland🥺💜 love from Finland💖💖
Hi from Finland! 🇫🇮 I'm happy you liked our food.
Hi. I'm so happy you tried the polish dishes. At my house, we do the 'ryba po grecku' day before. So that the fish would get all the flavours from vegetables with spices. You did a great job :D I love your videos about Christmas dinners. Greetings from Poland ❤
I loved these. And I loved looking at Portugal. Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá is a great dish, although my favourite is creamy Bacalhau com Natas. During Christmas, my family normally has cooked octopus with roasted new england and sweet potatoes as a main. There is also a cog fish version (Polvo or Bacalhau à Lagareiro).
I loved it when you did this last year so know I'll love this! Interested to see what countries you do this time!!💞🎄
We are having a bbq this year for Christmas Dinner, this video made me excited for Christmas 🎄 😀
Hey, you should try the Serbian Christmas tradition, it's called Česnica, basically it's Christmas bread that gets baked with a clean coin inside of it, and on the Christmas morning the bread is equally divided among the family members and whoever gets the coin in their piece is belived to have the most luck in the following year
She should make sarma, kačamak/pura, kupus salata, pečenje, and čupavci for an authentic Serbian christmas feast. At least that’s what we always have haha!
Would love to see an updated whole day of eating Christmas food!
Genuinely kind of amazed at how good your research is - I'm so used to people getting all sorts of info wrong about Portugal (understandable as we are a v small country all in all) but you were spot on!
Those are some fancy salads. Most Aussie BBQ just have the basic potato salad, coleslaw maybe a garden salad. But some people do go fancier for Chrissie. My personal favourites at Christmas are ham off the bone, salads, trifle and chicken ripple cake.
Such a fun idea! Would love to see more countries 😊
I'm surprised you haven't tried the dutch way of celebrating a festive dinner yet! It's called Gourmetten and most dutch people eat like this on Christmas. You have a little electric grill or little pans in the middle of the table and small pieces of meat, fish and vegetables, sauces, bread and salads and you just sit around the table all night cooking your own little meal all night long, so nobody is cooking dinner in the kitchen all day long. I really think you and the fam will love it! Lots of love from the Netherlands ❤️
yess! It's so much fun 🥰
Ah that is so interesting! The concept kind of reminds me of Raclette or Fondue. I live in Germany and I know that a lot of my friends have these dishes either on Christmas Day or New Years Eve! :)
The netherlanda have got it going on!!! This sounds so perfect for celebrating, no one person stuck cooking with all the usual stress that comes alongside! I may suggest this for my family hehe 💓
