"Christmas is a time of reflection, time to spend with your friends, your loved ones," conveyed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he hosted the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony held at the Kalayaan Grounds in Malacañang on November 25, 2023.
Adding to the festive spirit, the Chief Executive presented awards to the triumphant participants of the ‘Isang Bituin, Isang Mithiin’ National Parol-Making Competition, organized by the Office of the Social Secretary in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Out of the 86 creatively crafted Christmas lanterns or ‘parol’ submitted by various state universities, the Batangas State University (BatStateU) won first place, along with an impressive prize package of PhP1 million in cash, laptop and a mobile phone showcase.
Notably, the BatStateU also received a Gigabyte G7 Laptop, a 1-year Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription, a Canon M50 Camera, a DJI Ronin-SC Camera Stabilizer 3-Axis Gimbal and an INSTA 360 Flow AI-Powered Smartphone Stabilizer.
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) and Bohol Island State University (BISU) secured the second and third places, respectively.
Across the social media platform, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) garnered an impressive 156,000 heart reactions, earning the title of ‘online voting winner’ for the competition and a substantial prize of PhP100,000.
This year's competition was sponsored by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
