New 2024 Version Released czcams.com/video/BrDc-zmn3j8/video.html
You should be reading novels for a living. Thanks for a comprehensive video with superb vocal delivery.
IPS glow? Backlight bleed? Panel uniformity? Colour accuracity? Brightness is only 250 nits, is it enough? (For most people it's not.)
These are in my mind what a reviewer should talk about. We can read about the features from the manufacturers website.
Unfortunately , your description of "reviewers reading straight off the manufacturers website" applies to 100% professional monitor ads passed off as reviews .
Your comment needs to get more attention , to call out those lazy reviewers phoning in their "review" videos .
appreciate the details in your review here! quick question: does the screen brightness keys on apple keyboard seamlessly control the BenQ brightness? thx!
Where is your mouse mat from?
I'm condidering to buy one but still unsure if it is possible to do what i'm planing with it. Is it possible to plug an external USB soundcard to one of the USB-Inputs of the Monitor and then switch the connection of the soundcard from one computer to the other using the KVM Switch? The idea is to completely avoid using another hub for this kind of scenario.
The PD3205U is almost half this price. Looks same to me? How is it different to this?
I have a question. How can this monitor be a good choice for a photographer if it has a very narrow gamut and does not fully cover even the basic sRGB color space?
How much hertz display?
700€ for 27" or 999€ for a 32" is just ridiculos. then they go for 300 nits and 60Hz.... WTF. sorry to say but it seems they designed it for mac and think thereby they could charge apple prices.. but with these specs not my kind of display. needs to be at least 300€ off and needs 500nits and 120Hz at least. either you were sponsored, and no disclosure of that, or you just havent compared the monitor to others... sad to see.
Probably because of the wide P3 color gamut compatibility, in this area every monitors I've stumble seems to be very expensive. Ended up with SRGB monitors instead, $400 cheaper.
all things tech, what about perfomance using scaling? Is it drop down, when scale to 1440p or it is the same as native resolution? Thank you.
It drops
I would agree with everything this guy says here. having aquired a new Mac Studio, I decided to look elsewhere for a monitor, due to the £1,400 quid that Apple want. For the same outlay you can get the BenQ, a BenQ lightbar and Logitech Brio Pro 4k Webcam (which is far better than the cam built into the Apple display). What is not mentioned here, and is a big plus for me, You can also plug a common or garden blue ray/DVD player with just a HDMI lead (switching the input to HDMI also) and play all you DVDs and Blue Ray disc's. Something you cannot do if using an Apple monitor without first purchasing their Superdrive (which only supports DVDs). So for me personally, having a well made 4k monitor that is larger than the Apple display, is built for Mac/and DVDs and the where the scaling is no issue at all., is a no-brainer.
I did a lot of research and there is nothing like the Studio Display. Everything else has a major flaw in some way, whether it’s reliability (LG 5K) low PPI, low brightness, poor speakers and webcam, lack of support and parts. The studio display doesn’t have any major issues.
@@sambowksDisagree. The price is a major issue for a lot of people.
Do you reckon all the scaling would have an impact on GPU performance?
@@mflynnsterthe price is not an issue, being broke is.
The same monitor with a better refresh rate, like a 120 mhz would be awesome !
May be there is already a reference for that? (full macbook pro m1 compatible, 4K)
in terms of 32" monitors there's the Lenovo Legion Y32P-30. There are quite few 27" options as well
Do you know if I scale it 1920x1080 will that affect the 4k resolution? The reason I bought a 4k was to match higher resolution videos and edit photos in 4k. Thanks
you can indeed, in fact it's usually the default when you first plug in a 4K monitor. It also works quite well in terms of scaling because 4k scales down to 1080p much better than 1440p or some of the other intermediary steps, due to the fact that 4k, or 3840x2160, being a multiple of 1920x1080 (both dimensions multiplied by 2 for a total resolution multiplied by 4, hence 4k). That said, using your mac in this mode isn't optimal in my opinion as text and other UI elements appear too big and you might as well stick to a 24" 1080p monitor at that point
Great video. im not so worried about a 1440p monitor v 4k but more so the 5k v 4k. I recently bought the benq PD322OU and somehow have buyers remorse over not buying the Apple studio display. your review about 2 years ago cemented me buying the Benq but recently the studio display came out. I fugured the 32" v 27" and better price was overall better value but i had not considered the scaling - perfect 2x scaling for 5k on a macbook, and as well the studio display is twice as bright as the benq. i find the benq a bit dull, except at night time. what are your thought on the studio display?
He failed to mention a 27" 4K, which would scale to 1440 better than on a 32", simply by scaling maths. Also, I was looking at the specs on the BenQs and your nits brightness at peak is incredibly low, which again he didnt comment in the final bit of the video with the comparison table. Honestly, if you're monitor is 44+ inches away, anyone will hardly notice any difference and what will be more striking is the image to text quality, which this he was mentioned.
I have this monitor and i come to the same conclusion. Also, scaling the monitor to a different resolution does result in a performance impact. Something i didn't know! The problem is that 4K is just too small and the other way around (to not impact your GPU's performance) is to get the bigger resolution (but with less space on your desktop.) So i'm not sure what i should do at this moment.
I’ve got an Apple Studio display, just to work on everyday in an IT role, so not design. I’ve used Apple displays for years so naturally wanted the studio display when it came out.
I’ve been seriously underwhelmed by it - it’s just too small for the price. For £1500 a 27” display is a bit of a joke in my opinion. I get the 5k scaling, especially for designers and FaceTime camera etc is nice, but I don’t use too often. I just wanted a big, good quality display so I’m selling my Apple display and going for this Benq
Is monitor only or a complete computer?
Hopefully reply back to this comment I didn’t see replying back to any other comments?
What’s your opinion of the BenQ PD-3205U monitor
everyone is raving about that but I can’t find any reviews anywhere
What is the height from the bottom of the base to the top of the screen? I have a 32" monitor now, but it is in a tight space.
According to their official website, the height is 18.8 inch. You might want to take a look at their product page, there's a rly detailed pic telling the specific height and width of each.
Is lightroom okay for this monitor?
I just bought this monitor for my M1 Pro Mac and found it incredibly dim. At first I thought the backlight wasn't up, but it was at 100%. This is the dimmest monitor I've ever used. I work in a brighter room and struggle to read on it. even with the blinds covering the window. Am I missing something? I feel like I just wasted my money.
What if I don't want to charge my macbook when I connect the USB C to connect to this monitor. As charging macbook for a very long time is harmfull I guess.
Just bought this yesterday and the sound is awful. Am I missing something? Ive connected it to my Mac Studio via the USBc .
250 nits is just too dim. Yes I do usually work in dimly lit room, but sometimes it's nice to open up the blinds a bit and work in a brighter room for non colour specific work. 250 is not enough for that.
No 250 is NOT Dim
If you’re editing photos, you want to edit at a lower brightness level to be able to be accurate on your
Photos
@@JeffAlanWolf-ij3ls Exactly! For me it's also helpful when designing.
@@JeffAlanWolf-ij3ls Exactly! For me it's also helpful when designing.
Im using it with Alienware x17 R2
On my HP Z32 32"/4k system report falsely tells that resolution is 5k and U looks like 2560x1440. Scaling work though it does not work like you say.
4K doesn't "scale" to 1440p.
It scales to 1080p x2.
1440p requires Mac to render a 5K image and downscale it to 4K for us to have a properly sized elements.
The issue is - performance.
That's why Apple has a 5K for 27" and 6K for 32" displays.
4K is good only for 24" monitors.
Naturally, scaling will do the job, at a price of sharpness, so it is rather a preference, not a real issue.
Does anybody know if they are good for gaming also? Looking for a monitor for photography and gaming.
I have a Asus PG32UQR. Its 144hz, 32" 4k.
It is 100% adobe rgb and srgb. It is very accurate and nice for gaming aswell! To me this is the best for using it for both gaming and editing/color grading
1440p is NOT 2K... "K" refers to an aproximation for the horizontal pixel count.
2K = 1080p
2.5K = 1440p
4K = 2160p
5K = 2880p
how does it compare to lg oled c2 42 inches as a monitor, which is better?
They dont compare cause they 2 totally different kinds of monitors. Benq is more for work and LG for gaming and media consumption. Im getting both since its time to upgrade to 4k.
Apple’s scaling isn’t great IMO. It often makes for poorly defined text when not scaled to an exact half or quarter of the native resolution.
Personally I’d only ever use a monitor at native resolution or 2:1 (aka HiDPI or Retina) scaling where you get a perfect 2by2 pixels making up a scaled pixel.
Compare this monitor in 1440p to 1080p HiDPI (as 1080 is exactly 2:1 of its native 2160 pixels) and you’ll see what I mean.
For me 5K monitors are the sweet spot as they allow for 1440p HiDPI scaling on a 2880p screen.
Sound like a copy paste. By apple scaling you mean every scaling. You can’t beat physics. Pixels are pixels.
@@frostgodx copy paste of what?
And Apple vs Windows vs Linux scaling are definitely not all equal.
Some handle font rendering at non perfect scales better than others. Also depends on the screen and it’s pixel pattern, some of the newer ones aren’t supported by some OS’s (yet).
@@frostgodx this scaling issue of display not being 218 ppi (5k 27 inch) or 109ppi (1440p 27inch) is a known problem and you find many people having problems with blurry texts on monitors not having that ppi values... Can only be kind of fixed with third party software or by buying a monitor with the mentioned ppis
it is not very old in 2024?
60hz 🤔🤔🤔
250 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
sponcered power channel , bywbye never come again😂😂😂

Cool another matte display I don’t care about. The search for a glossy display continues…
Apple XDR
Terrible review . No exact color gamut (what about other gamut like AdobeRGB ?) , no exact brightness measurement , no exact contrast ratio measurement , no uniformity test , not even any quality control tests (e.g. backlight bleed) considering it's a professional-aimed monitor .
You just lazily read the spec sheet and passed off this advertisement as a review .
