A lot of people are saying it's about drugs, but I honestly interpret it as being about escapism from the stresses of modern life to the innocence of childhood, and a desire to return to the happiness and interests in cool stuff like dinosaurs one had as a kid, that are now suppressed as an adult. Which IMO hits a lot harder.
imagine if the band themselves wrote it about drugs too, but everyone is accepting it at face value, like "nah, this is about dinosaurs now".

Im new to this band, but the dinosaurs to me represented childish fantasies that distract you from real world duties. So to me this was video games, social media, nerd stuff basically. The comment about the baby having the same eyes as her father stood out as a racial comment to me but I could be reading into that line too much.

This actually made me almost teary eyed. It brought me back to my childhood where I'd be a raptor roaming around the nearby forest, immersed in my fantasy world with the other dinosaurs.

Not too long before this album was released, I had a dream where I casually saw myself as a child playing with plastic dinosaurs alone in a room. I approached him and he excitedly asked "you also like dinosaurs??!", and then I sat with him as he played and pondered whether a t-rex or a triceratops would win in a fight. I woke up crying rivers, and then when this album came out and I listened to this song it all came back again and I cried some more.

Fan theory: it's a metaphor for people who live in the past/can't find hope in anything but the glory of WW2 Germany and dinosaurs refer to those German heros.
