  • This is my modded (by me) 1968 Fender Bandmaster.
The mods are very simple. I decided having 2 almost identical channels was a bit redundant to me. I left the vibrato channel stock to keep the classic Fender tone and decided to make the normal channel more rock voiced.
Mod #1 was Rob Robinette’s “Lead channel mod” which is essentially swapping a hand full of components to voice the amp a little more aggressively.
Mod #2 is the addition of a Mid control/mid boost on the back of the amp. At zero it’s the stock scooped Fender value, as the pot is turned up it gives a mid boost and at higher settings it starts to remove the tone stack which adds a considerable amount of mids and gain.
I start on the stock vibrato channel. Both channels dialed in the same, Volume 6, Treble 6, Bass 4, so you can hear the difference in sound simply changing from stock to modded. Reaching behind the amp is when I am adjusting the mid control. The orange box I switch on is a homemade treble booster. I tried to switch channels to show how the mods, mid control and boost affect the amp.
Sorry, iPhone audio is all I have, but I hope this demonstrates how a few simple mods can considerably alter the tone of a classic Fender.

    Can you jumper the channels?

Hi, yes, you can. The channels of the non-reverb Fender amps are in phase. I've started using a radial ABY box to change back and forth between the channels to make it somewhat of a 2 channel amp but you can run both at the same time as well.
