When I had my first MRE, I was like that with the bread. I love the MRE, they are very essential to have for emergencies. I going to order boxes of it to keep for any future emergencies.

@@hackneeey I don't know how a person of good taste eats smoked salmon but I love it on buttery toast. I really loved the Erin curried rice with some chopped bacon thrown in. Cooked in five minutes and made a good hearty meal. I don't see it these days so it may be discontinued
I really enjoyed the video, Vinnie! Glad you liked the MRE, too. I confess, I've never had that particular MRE (2017 Menu No.7). You made it sound pretty good! The FRH is a bit tricky to use. As you discovered, they don't work very well if too much water is added. Some people will add a pinch of salt to the water, but I'm not convinced this makes a difference. I too like the MRE spoons--handy and fairly durable with decent length. I've saved a few for field use, myself. Cheers!
I liked it very much Jack. Being peckish probably helped but you can't really go wrong with beef and potatoes with cheese on them eh? I'd say it is far ahead of the British ration pack as far as the main meal is concerned. I was kicking myself over the FRH. I should have measured the water. Nice double Buck knife selection. I didn't mind the old MOD ration packs. It just goes to prove that a day in the field being shouted at and the quality of the food and comfort of the bed, doesn't really matter. Slept like a log in a shell scrape before now. Two in a week Vinnie, we will all have to raise our game. PS: I would have been more impressed if the coffee had come with a bottle of Jamesons - Irish coffee with no Whiskey - what are our armed forces coming to?

You need to fly a scull and crossbones when you are making your Irish coffee Jim 😁 As for the narcotics officer I spent many years watching Miami Vice. Those were the days when men were men and you tested bags of drugs by sticking a penknife in it and tasting it

Great video Vinnie. My son seems to like this MRE better than the others we tried. I'm not a fan really but a hungry man will eat it and be satisfied. The US MRE bread really lacks in my opinion. I found it amusing seeing Dyson nosing around as you opened the packets. All the best my friend.
We have a strict policy of not feeding the dogs during meals but somebody keeps sharing their food with them. When we find out who it is they are going to get a damn good talking to!
Didn't know anyone was interested in MRE's. I have 6 cases in my closet for emergency. While I'd never purposely eat one as I'd had plenty during my active duty days - I can see the interest by someone who never tried, just as a new experience. Some are not bad. Some are truly inedible. Brisket? Middle of the road but we're always disapointed when you get one without the M&M's. Anyway, glad you could get out for a bit of a walk!

He is part of the canine mafia. He always has to get a slice of the action or else. He liked it so much that when I left the plate down for a moment I turned around to find him eating it. I had to edit that out and I had to finish the meal because the show must go on 😆

That summer, in july we went to the western part of Irland, east of Limerick city, outside the village of Murroe in Glenstal. We stayed in a B&B and rented a car and took off to see places like Rock of Cashel and The Cliff of Moher. What a wonderful country Irleand is. We bought a CD with harp music that I still remember today. Did you have your standard 420HC Buck 110 or your S30V 110 with you that day? Did you ever get a diamond or SiC stone for the S30V and any other "super steels" you may get? I recall in your review of the S30V 110 you said you were having difficulty sgarpening it on an oil or water stone.
That was the standard Buck Steve. I had no trouble sharpening the S30V. My plan was to reduce the thickness of the blade which I quickly realised was a game of soldiers. I should have got the clip point S30V Buck 110 as I'm told it is the same thickness as the standard Buck. We live and learn Steve.
Vinnie do you use methylated spirits? I'm struggling to buy it here in Scotland for ma Wee Stove. i like buying from local stores before going Online 👍But during these times i feel my local sellers are being forced out from stocking n selling local from online suppliers AnyWho it Looked Delicious 😂
Ahh the dreaded MRE, the us military ones are not too bad, just made for carbs and calories to keep you fueled up, there popular here in areas that get tornado and hurricane weather as emergency rations. Sure beats going hungry right.
You aren’t allowed to hunt, but you can exercise? What if you’re just exercising your right to hunt? And my arthritic fingers can’t open those MRE’s either!
I tried it with pliers but it was just going to tear so I said I would keep it looking neat with a cut. As for the hunting they are just pulling rules from their rear end. There is absolutely no logic. A guy wandering the countryside on his own miles from anyone is not the greatest vector for spreading disease methinks
@@vinniesdayoff3968 I agree- out on a wander with a rod or gun to feed yourself or your family seems like a legitimate way to get through quarantine. These “battle rations” have really come a long way from the dreck that was forced on the troops in years past. Nice video as usual!

By the way, sometimes when you get a flameless heater that doesn’t heat, you can add a little salt to the water to kind of “jump start” the process ( the accessory pack usually contains a bit of salt ). And if you’re having trouble getting a fire lit, the powder from the heater cells contains magnesium and can be ignited with a flame or spark to provide a pretty hot flame. You can use just one of the cells and the remaining 3 will still get the food warm. Thanks again for the video!

you can slide the bread into the brown bag on the outside of the FRH and get it warm or toast it over your stove it makes it better to me,,

Hunger is the best spice ever! US mres are not bad, but the amount of packaging material for the calories! For the cuisice, i go for french mres.
I have a French ration Hauki. I was ready to stay out for 24 hours and make a video in a very senic part of Ireland but now we are locked down again 😑

I agree with Jack. Hit and miss. Never had the beef & au gratin potatoes some of the 24 different menu entrees are good & some aren't

Yes James I use methylated spirits. They sell methylated spirits in the agricultural stores and paint shops here.
