I've water-fasted for 13 days to help reduce my blood pressure. Nothing but water for 13 days (i.e., no tea, no coffee, etc.). Just water; that's it. Day 1 - Stomach growling, and hungry. Hardest day. Day 2 - Stomach stopped growling, and hungry. Hard day. Day 3 - Not hungry, felt normal. Diarrhea from having only water. Also realized that hunger was just an illusion and that we unnecessarily eat out of boredom and social cues. Water intake becoming difficult because it's boring, tasteless, and felt like I had to force 8 cups of water a day. 8 hours of sleep began to turn into 5 - 6 hours. Day 4 - Sinuses were cleared 100%. Nasal breathing was as free and unobstructed as mouth breathing. Ears popped as well, as hearing was slightly increased. Libido almost non-existent. Day 5 - I felt a short, out-of-body, floating sensation on this morning while my body was still laying in bed, coming out of sleep. Nights would end with CZcams videos of chefs cooking pasta and pizza, replacing PornHub. Day 6 - Diarrhea stopped as my body rid itself of all fecal matter. Continued pizza and pasta fantasies. My sweet tooth was non-existent. Day 7 - My sense of smell heightened so much that all artificial scents/fresheners irritated my nasal passages. Heightened sense of smell is perhaps one of the most difficult challenges. Day 8 - The one pimple on my face disappeared. Whites of my eyes were bright white. My skin was glowing. My sweat and armpits were scentless. Deodorant was practically pointless. Day 9 - Energy preservation began, as my movement and speech were less aggressive and a lot more calm. Less anger and more patience grew. Carb cravings were gone. I began craving vegetables and salads (this has never happened before in my life). Energy was normal. Day 10 - Light-headedness when standing up quickly. Noticed posterior-chain muscles required more mental awareness to keep myself from slouching. Energy was normal. Day 11, 12, 13 - Stairs required more focus than usual. I hated water. My sense of smell was unbearably annoying. Got fed up with boredom of too much time on my hands when not pre-occupied with what you're about to eat, eating, post-meal relaxation, what you're about to order from Starbucks, which Starbucks to go to, drinking said drink, post-drink relaxation, etc. Day 14 - Re-feeding with salad. I was blown away by my first bite of spinach. Not only did I taste every molecule of that spinach leaf, I tasted the soil it grew in, and the country it came from. I wasn't supposed to have sugar, but I tried one grape, and, to this day, I have never experienced the ecstasy of the taste of that grape. It felt like it came directly from the hand of God, when it felt like an ocean of honey exploded in my mouth; the sweetness; the texture; the taste. And I don't even like grapes! Day 15 - Back at Starbucks and Five Guys. Gained all my water weight back. Lost all my superpowers. The most difficult part of this was the boredom from the amount of free time you have, the heightened sense of smell, and the love-hate relationship with water. So, Chael, this is definitely not a sustainable diet, and definitely not something you do to lose weight -- you will gain it all back the next day. Stick to keto. (But if you need more time on your hands, you will complete in one day what used to take you one week.)
@@rvckyym I'm 6'2" and weighed 195 lbs before the fast. I'm not lean -- I'd say I'm 20% body fat. After the fast, I went down to 183 lbs. I'd say 10 lbs was water weight, 1 lbs was muscle and 2 lbs was fat. I gained it all back within 3 days. I'm telling you, it's the worst way to lose weight. I didn't do it for weight loss anyhow.
Tony Ronaldo-Arcangelini i feeel you , ive been struggling with prolonged fasting started taking up adf with omad, way more sustainable, but big fucking props of the 13 days bro
When I turned 40 my metabolism lost a couple gears. I was fit and athletic my whole life and ate whatever or as much as I wanted but after turning 40 I now have to eat healthy and watch how much I eat and exercise just to keep that same figure. It’s old age, it sucks.
One of your best vids! Fasting is excellent, and even provides a sense of sharpness (in my experience) with academics/sports in particular. Although for anyone considering fasting for weight loss, you have to make a big effort subsequent to the fast of organizing your food/calorie intake, if you go crazy with the food youll gain all the weight back in no time.
For the last 18 months (minus 1) I've been doing a 1 week water fast once a month. I missed December but I'm made up for it by doing two in January. Once you've done it once, it's easy the next month. I did find that skipping a month made it harder when I picked back up, though. Why do I fast? Well, yeah, it helps me control my weight. I can never quite get lean just eating well and exercising, but when I fast, I drop a lot of weight all at once and it helps me keep a good weight for the rest of the month. But it's MUCH more than just to help with my weight (which is actually a secondary benefit and not my primary reason to do it). My primary reason for fasting is autophagy and stem cell generation. Intermittent fasting does spur on some autophagy, but it's nothing compared to the autophagy you get on a long water fast. More importantly, whe you begin to eat again after a long water fast (3-4 day minimum) your body creates a massive load of stem cells and dumps them into your system. I find that the longer I fast, up to 7 days, the greater the effect. After 7 days there's no additional benefit in this regard, so that's where I stop. Stem cells absolutely make you feel like Captain America coming out of the reaction chamber where he gets his powers. If you have any little cuts or burns, they literally heal over night. Scars fade. Old injuries get a little better. "Potency" is off the charts. Mood is super high all week. You feel strong and fast and it's just awesome. I never want to go a month without a 7 day fast. It's just the best thing I do all month long. There are other benefits: rejuvenation, extended life expectancy, improved insulin response, improved cholesterol, the list goes on. Here are the tips I'd give to anyone who wants to do it: 1) The week before you fast, try not to eat any carbs and no sugar. You want to get your body into fat burning mode BEFORE you start the fast to avoid feeling like crap. If you're already keto when you start, the hunger and other cravings are negligible all the way through. I'd also start to reduce the number of meals you eat as you get closer to your start date. For the first half of the week before you fast, eat only 2 meals a day. For the last 3 days eat only 1 meal. 2) Once you start your fast, your first class of water each day should have 1/2 tsp of each of the following: table salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar powder. The first two are for your electrolytes, the last one is for potassium so you don't get cramps. Expect to poo about an hour after drinking it. This will clear you out so there isn't anything lingering in your gut for over a week. 3) When you break your fast, the FIRST thing you need to consume is a probiotic product. I drink two of those little Yakult bottles. Your gut biome dies off during the fast and if you're going to process your food correctly and preserve your mental clarity, you need a healthy gut. Get that probiotic! Hope this helps! Good luck!
I feel you Chael, same thing happened to me. Stopped competing after a retinal detachment and gained a ton of weight because I wasn't looking forward to the next bout.
i have been doing extreme fasting since 16 (i'm now 22) by eating about 3-4 meals a weak. every once in a while i could go hiking for 10 days and have only one meal in the fifth or sixth day, mimicking a hunter gatherer's lifestyle. the meal would be around 4 to 5 thousand calories, mostly fat, i'd only drink when thirsty, and i would feel awesome during and after the hike. in my opinion fasting for more than 3 days is something everyone should be familiar with and do at least twice a year. your body adapts and you feel amazing. there's no going back.
One cool thing I’ve found about fasting is that you get more shit done. Without meal breaks and subsequent food comas you simply ‘get on with it’. You can’t sit around or procrastinate about things because if you do you’ll feel hungry and annoyed.
Keep it up man, I've done a couple water fasts the longest I've made it is 7 days. The first time I lost 24lbs the second (5days) I lost 15lbs. You have to drink some water though it's bad for kydneys if you don't. Also you have to make sure you keep up with your daily salt needs(I ate a quarter teaspoon a day). make sure if you last longer than a week, you break your fast with something easy to digest, watermelon is a good choice.
Very interesting take on things and I appreciate the video. I have a very small appetite and often have no clue what I'm hungry for or if I'm even hungry. I've been 140 to 150 my whole adult life 😢. Many people that know me understand I dont eat much, usually one decent meal a day and then small snacks throughout the day. Every now and then I get a burst of appetite and even a living horse looks delicious to me at that point but for the most part I dont get food cravings at all. I wonder if I'm living in an extended version of what your experiencing.

Now I can see you've lost a significant amount of weight. Good job man. If it's what you want to do, then keep it going. The longer you go the more weight will come off faster. Because your not eating at all. Other diets you hit a wall usually after a time, it's different when your not eating at all. But, you have lost weight and it physically shows. Take care Chael.
