Hi Doris, would you ever consider a video showing us your clothing storage techniques? And maybe some tips on what fabrics/papers to put between? That would be so cool!!
I love this channel , so happy to see the Dino bell bottom bikini set, the print haunts me. I went back looking for the video with one of your wonderful helpers when you were under the weather and couldnt find it ao happy to see this again !!! Love the jax dresses, the maud frizon boots , the color block purse, the beautiful smocked print mini dress with lace inserts. I am thinking why these shapes and optimism of the sixties is so appealling, essentially this was my first view of adults as a little girl and your examples feel very fresh and contemporary. Always beautiful ,delightful and an opportunity to learn. Thank you Doris! Its worth seeing your videos more than once treasure trove of ideas.
I NEED those BOOTS! OMG! I just happen to be a size 8 1/2 too and I'm obsessed with 70's glam rock, I can see any member of The Runaways wearing these boots onstage. I know they are probably way out of my price range, but one can dream. Thank you so much for making my day. I dream about boots just like this, it's nice to know they exist in the real world too.
Is green, have florals, named Missoni!!! oooh yeeeeess!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those boots are EVERYTHING. Gorgeous. They remind me of Jem and the Holograms!
The boots!!! They scream Bowie to me. Beautiful ❤️
This really is my ticket to seeing what I fear I will never experience
I think it would be an amazing idea to show items that you would never sell. I'd love to see those gems!
That’s a good suggestion Elfi except I pretty much sell everything except what I wear and my jewelry. Sorry.
You're like a college professor, Doris! I love hearing your lectures, your silvery laughter (prettiest anywhere!), and extensive vocabulary... thank you so much for bringing haute couture to us groundlings.
Doris. I jut love listening to your experienced knowledgeable critique of the items you present. Your paced considered delivery is so refreshing and most welcome. I could listen to you all day. I have spent a happy relaxing half hour with you and a cup of tea before starting my day. Thank you from rural Essex, in England.
Hi Ruth! Thanks for your kind comment. I can visualize your “routine” from your description and that makes me happy!! Thanks for your interest.
Doris
You are such an inspiration…your knowledge & tenacity for your love of fashions & sharing it with us…& so much more❣️ I am hoping you can possibly do a segment on wonderful iconoclast Iris Apfel who’s great contribution to the fabric world & style has opened SO many eyes and hearts. Only you could do it in your “unpushy sales presentations” that share such great info🥰 AND, since I am an old Granny of 18 lil’ darlings, and a Size 3X, do you have anything for us larger ladies…please? God bless & keep you going strong, Doris, you are such a pleasure❣️
My sister was the house model for Mr Dino in Miami where the screen print manufacturing took place.
People who take care of their shit are the real MVP's
I don't ever comment, but this time is an exception! Just wishing you well in hope that your amazing business will survive during these difficult times. I am an old fashion major whose love of vintage has finally rubbed off on my 22 year old daughter. Your videos are my lifeline to my former world... Thank you & be safe!
Love the Maud Frisson Boots, just fab.
The first purple crushed velvet looking mini with long tapered sleeves reminded me of Janis Joplin. I love your fashions and their historical backgrounds.
Hello Doris and friends at The Way We Wore❣️ I would like to enter the contest please... if I could choose something from your incredible merchandise, it would be the
Vintage 50s Ethnic Beaded Belt... talk about timeless👏🏻👏🏻✨. I could see pairing it with a cute T-shirt dress and espadrilles for spring and summer.. or even wearing it in the winter with a sweater dress and boots.
Thank you ever so much for your videos. I love them! Your knowledge and understanding of fashion is second to none. Wish I could walk around your lovely store and “oooh and aaah...” Maybe someday! Blessings and kudos to you all.
The squiggly pattern with the beads is called vermicelli in Tambour embroidery 📿😉😊❤️
The lavender and red tunic and pants, I had a lavender set which was sleeveless but with tighter knit so no skin showed. I wore it to a homecoming dance my freshman year in high school. Back in 1972
The Missoni dress from the 70's, so relevant back then as it is today. Wish you all the best. Stay safe
Funny! When you pulled that dress off the rack my first thought was Ana Mae Wong. And then you said she would have worn it
She was so lovely! I wish Hollywood hadn’t been so racist toward Asians and blacks. We missed out on some really great actors and actresses
Another fantastic video, as usual. As a big fan of The Way We Wore, one of my dreams is to one day be inside the store to look around and adore all these vintage pieces. When I looked around the online shop for the contest, there were two things that really really caught my eye. One was the fringed distressed oversized jacket from the 80s and the second one, also from the 80s, is the Genny Evening Jacket with the Green Trim. It reminds me of a Valentino Blazer that I tried on many years ago, but never bought, which I regret to this day. For who ever this gift card goes to, I congratulate you from the bottom of my heart and I hope the wonderful piece you get, will bring you lots of joy for many many years :)
I wish, I wish, I wish!! I love the basket purse, my Neen had one, as a little girl if we were allowed to play in her closet that was one of the first things I would go for. I also loved the red tunic and pants, my mother would have worn that well. Like I said I wish Miss Roberts.
Im Seriously having a meltdown! I want those Amazing Boots & how clever you can fold them over to give more red to the shoe! (That boot reminds me of wonder women) Then those sexy black and gold shoes which i think its got a planet on them! and I loooove the pink outfit!!! I'll ABSOULTELY be shopping here even though I live in Sydney Australia NOTHING will stop me!!!
I love all of your jax pieces!! 💜🤩
Love this channel! Would you please consider dedicating a video to 1920's flapper dresses, hats and flapper beads? Anything 1920's! It's my favorite era in fashion. Thanks! Boo boo be doo!!
For the contest - that Missoni is truly to die for, or if you still have some of those vintage Pucci dresses you showed in a video a while back, I would gladly take one off your hands!
Doris Raymond said it truthfully, "...the colors make you happy." A commodity we all need especially now! I enjoy watching hauls and hearing each item's provenance. It is an interesting and informative 23andMe for clothing and accessories.
Absolutely beautiful things! I'm a first time viewer. The art of designer couture is so unique. It is frustrating that you are not able to be open but at least you are able to have viewers from across the country. Everything you have is very unique.
I used to live at 6th and burnside and would go out of my way to walk past your store to check out the window. I don’t know why it took me so long to realize that you have a channel but I’m here now and so glad to see the treasures you have.
Just catching this episode now and wanted to say that I so appreciate your knowledge. It is apparent that you are immersed in your passion. I find I pick up titbits of information even in the natural moments when you are simply discussing the fabrics, texture, and appliqué etc. Very informative and inspiring!
I do he you keep going so lovely to see these beautiful clothes I loved the colour block handbag your never too fat for a handbag xxx
I am so in love with antique clothing. It is walking art.
That bias cut dress is incredible. Both interesting and timeless.
Absolutely in love with this channel. Not only as a vintage lover myself but honestly you are SO soothing. I could watch you rummage through things for hours.
As for the give-away I would die to own the Missoni 70s Green Pop Art Floral Jersey Maxi Dress. With my ginger hair I think it would pop against like crazy.
Doris, love the jacket you’re wearing. Holy moly, tough to pick a favorite. But, OMG, when you showed the lilac tunic & pants set it took me right back to when I lived in the dorms at university. 1968. And my suite mate had a dress exactly like that woven material. She wore an absolutely plain slip under it with a different color. Boy, was she cool in that outfit, which she wore on a date. What a hoot for me to see that woven material which I remember so vividly. Thanks again, kiddo.
So cool to find all these art pieces and share them
I don't know if it would be too much work, but I would like to see if you can recreate iconic costumes from old Hollywood films. It might be a fun challenge to look at your stock and find homage to Funny Face or Casablanca. If anybody could do it, it's you.
Hi Doris and Co.!
Hope this comment finds you all safe and well. ❤
For the contest I would choose the pink and gray rhinestone pin and earrings, the Beene orange plaid coat or the 40s pink branch nightgown. Although the purple Japanese kimono is beautiful, too! So many lovely pieces!
Hello Doris! I’m such a fan and I can’t get enough! As I don’t hope to fit into most vintage clothing I really love and appreciate seeing accessories. So thanks for that❤️
Thanks for your comment Thelena. In LA, it’s really difficult to find sizes larger than a US 8. When we do, it’s usually the first thing sold because it is so hard to find. I apologize for that but I’m happy to read that you have found a way to integrate vintage into your wardrobe. Accessories are a fantastic way to add color and make a personal statement.
Thanks for your interest!
Doris
@@thewaywewore7371 oh my gosh! You made my day! Thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment. ❤️. Not being able to wear the clothes doesn’t stop me from admiring them. Thank you for for your knowledge and passion!
Suggestions...? Ok, here’s one, but you may already be doing it... Have regular fashion shows in the store based on a theme, using music from that time and other aids, like video screens with footage from that era. Have tea ☕️ 🫖 and have a celeb show up for the events, or some other special feature each time that can help to draw customers. You can have other fashion historians and designers too, but you are such a wonderful curator and historian yourself, a pleasure to watch your vids.
As usual, I can't just choose one! l love the 1930's bias cut dress and then the Jax satin coat dress suits the other end of my design desire spectrum. In addition, the Scott Barrie crepe dress, as well at the crochet tunic sets, and the Missoni classic shape wool jersey floral dress all caught my eye. Finally, we have that little Jean Patou number breaking hearts wherever she goes...hmmmmm :)
Thank you Doris for this wonderful video. It made my day.
That second Jax piece is still so relevant today. My first thought is how similar it looks to Lilly Pulitzer.
I am a "curvy" lady or as the writer Alexander McCall Smith would say a "traditionally built woman", but I love your pieces! I would like to see some clothing for my size. I'm sure they few and far between. Thank you for your you tube show!
Awhh dorris's little laught when she said: great color with the blue dress. As a fellow blue lover i understand💙
If you are low on sales... PLEASE PLEASE do more regular videos about your clothes and their stories! Ad revenue from YT can be good if you keep the videos coming and we will 100% watch!
your coverup would look so good with the missoni!!
My jacket is a multi-color hand embroidered on lightweight wool from Kashmir India. Probably 970s made for export.
I love ❤️ your Chanel and Thank you so much for the dropping so much knowledge ❤️🙌🏾🙏🏾
The 30's bias cut dress is beautiful, as is everything. Thank you for the information. It's a challenge pricing vintage, and getting hard to find. You certainly have access to the cream of what is left of the crop
I love the gambling basket! i love whimsical things.
You make your fans so happy! Thank you! Always so fun and informative. I bet if you started politely mentioning the size and cost of items you feature your sales would go up.
Great suggestion. Thank you Jessie. I will try to remember. I just hate sounding like a uses car salesperson.
@@thewaywewore7371 Glad I could help you help us! We love you and your store!
I would love an episode with the movie Niagara as the theme. The clothes were so lovely plus, all the accessories.
Thanks so much Doris! All the clothes from Jax were fabulous, I wish I was a small size! God bless you!
I lived in San Francisco in the late 80's and shopped at your boutique..you also once, invited me to a warehouse that I visited with you. I had a beautiful collection of vintage clothing..primarily from the thirties to through the 50's.i have since over the years, traded, sold, to friends and some dealers.
I have one and only one remaining...pristine except someone opened a three inch seam on the inside shoulder silk lining...no damage to the silk whatsoever..just opened the threading on the seam. The jacket is a Valentina from ,I believe the late 30's...black wool crepe...her is a photo of the label..would you be interested?
Those boots are amazing! Still in love with the Versace dagger pin though. Wishing you and your business well during this time.
Thanks so much for the video! I always learn so much about vintage from watching you. For the contest - I'm in love with that crushed purple velvet piece and the red knit set showcased here. I also have an unhealthy obsession with the Oscar de la Renta three piece set with the head scarf included! So many cool ways to wear!
So many beautiful things to choose from! The Gigli cotton wrap blouse or the red disco blouse!!!
So great to hear the history of Jax! I have occasionally come across these pieces over the years and always been impressed by the design and quality
Love the CHANEL EARLY 2000S RIMLESS LOGO SUNGLASSES
I used to wear Maud Frizon. Haven’t heard that name in years. Also Andrea Pfister as well.
Love you passion and knowledge sending love from New Zealand
OH DORIS, THE DAY THAT BILL BLASS DIED I FELL INTO MOURNING ND HAVE NEVER LEFT.
I would love to see some of your thing’s modeled in a peppy little video. I especially love Gloria Vanderbilt. Your shoes and purses are wonderful. I really love cowell necklines, and yes they remind me of Audrey Hepburn every time. I am still wearing a bright purple, cowellneck chenille sweater from the mid 80’s. , and I still love it. You might try to feature a loss leader at the end ,to generate interest.
Sorry for spelling. 🥖🍷 Happy Days, from St Louis, Mo
This was so cool! Makes me want to go thrifting. Really makes me excited to create my own curated decade inspired collection. I'm really into the 60s -70s color era.
Wow ... love this ... for contest ... 60s large rhinestone bow brooch ... for my beret .. love the layaway ...eleanor garnett ... lol xx
Another excellent video, always interesting and educational! Never boring at all! Your store must be like a female version of Aladdin's Cave!
The Burgandy Jax would be my choice!!! 😍😍😍
Hello from New Zealand. Let's hope this world settles down soon and you can once again grace our shores.
Looking through the website I oohed and aaahed on every page. From the Halston Cape to the Navajo turquoise bracelet, the bags, the jewellery, the clothing...how could I possibly pick a favourite? But I would if I won! Lol. Good luck everyone but secretly just pick me :-).
I can always go for a statement clutch or shoes!
I so love your presentations and wish you all the best Doris. Retail will pick up soon with the vaccine and good times are coming back by summer. Keep your chin up - and you are helping by entertaining us with your beautiful garments. 🌻🌈
For my bff laurie ...the 50s gambling basket purse lol ... she would love this ...
I love the history behind your posts but I love the asmr more xxxx
Oh I would buy the boots! Those are singing to me!!
When you brought out that 1970's Missoni, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. That was beautiful. Thanks for sharing it Doris!!!
Ahhhh, the little black bag! Love!
Holy guacamole THOSE BOOTS 🤩🤩🤩
I would definitely purchase that 1930s black evening gown! I don't have anywhere to wear it yet, but I would find some future event:)
LOVE your channel. "Desperately need a Holiday" Still in the same boat. Best info ever on yr channel . x
As always very beautiful pieces, I always look forward to your videos.
That Mr Dino!!!!!!
What would I purchase? A great clutch shoulder bag conversion. Your collection has many that interest me!! Thanks for sharing each week
You teach more fashion history from these CZcams videos than any class one could take! It is AWESOME!! Comming from a girl from SF and grew up shopping at the esprit outlet and Emporium and Gumps etc. I want to thank you for what you have done and continue to do! I wanted to do fashion design but instead went into makeup but it formed a love in me that never quit. You speak to me and your passion is so evident! Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge and experiences you have had. You are the queen sharing and educating on the history of modern fashion!
I would buy that fabulous purple velvet dress! Love your videos.
Im OBSESSED with these star heels
the fur pockets are cute and funny lol
i adore the show i am in my 69s now but i remember alot of the types of clothes i see on your show that my older sisters would wear
I’ll be 68 in March. So much of what I sell reminds me of my youth!
Doris
Ohhh it's the Vivienne Tam for me 🐅
Close seconds are the 30s dusty rose and that black chiffon in the afternoon ;) love the pieces you find - thank you for sharing!
I love this channel! I immediately went to the store while watching this !
Those boots are stunning, like wonderwoman
That Missoni dress is beautiful!
That lilac 2 piece set is stunning
Your Eclectic collection is perfection!
I love the clothes so beautiful but I feel like everyone was so skinny back then lol I could never fit 🥲 those Jax velvet dresses are to die for ugh
Me too but this is actually what pushed me into making my own clothes so I can really curate the vintage inspired wardrobe that makes me happy
I love Doris' grey hair...
Loved seeing this. Thank you for taking the time to show us.
thank you Doris and Co. for continuing to put out videos amidst all this craziness, with the continued shutdown and the looting of the store last year, it's really admirable to watch you all keep pushing forward in spite of the circumstances and fills me with hope at a time when hope feels like a scarcity. you are (and have been since LA Frockstars) a joy to watch on screen and this channel is an excellent resource for research. do you own any pieces by Nicolas Ghesquiere? either from his tenure at Balenciaga (or the brief and storied three seasons he spent at Callaghan!) or any Claude Montana? would love to see. Writing from London, UK ♡
Hi Kit. Thanks for your kind words. It’s people like you that motivate me to continue doing this. It’s a great and kind community.
I need to do a little research to confirm the dates of my Callaghan pieces. Let me see if if we have enough to warrant an episode. Thanks for the suggestion. I really like Nicolas and miss seeing him. It’s been over a year( last October) since he was in the store.
I hope you have a chance to visit the store after the COVID19 issue evaporates. One can hope.....
Thank you for your interest!
Best regards-
Doris
I'd love to have the siren black satin gown, but as it wouldn't fit me, the thing I would buy is the YSL black short sleeved evening jacket with tassels
Love whimsy ... and fuchsia...💗💗💗
Love, love this channel. My son is an employee at Paramount and I tell him to please tell his bosses to bring back your show!!! You are adorable, delightful and really FUNNY as are your employees . What I loved most was you never knew who would wander in and they were all esteemed in their field or just fun shoppers. Doris, I love your eye And encyclopedic knowledge of fashion. I love how you teach me to put things together in new ways that I already own , say a different colored bra that shows. Loved The Amy Weinstein, jewelry and Google Arts museum, of shows seen thus far. So great!!!! You’re a hoot! XOXO
