Whenever I see a level like "Thwomp Run: Ultimate+", I just think about how the maker actually had to clear that level with no checkpoints to upload it (plus as many more times as the amount of checkpoints you have).

I use Analog for 2d games too it's better imo
I usually use the analog stick for 2d games too mainly because I'm use to it at this point but I do occasionally use the d-pad when I need to perform precise jumps
I started using the analog stick after noticing how bad the pro controller's d-pad is and there is no way im using joy-cons

For platformers on the switch, I like to use the double joycons because each direction has its own separate button so there's no way you can accidentally hit a direction unless you fat finger it. I would give that a try if you don't want to have to use the analog stick.
