Don't know much about bagpipes. Are the holes on the cantor the same as an Irish whistle?
No, the tin (Irish) whistle has only six holes for the fingers and has a range of two octaves. The chanter on these bagpipes is similar to the Scottish bagpipes with eight holes (7 on the front and one hole on the back for the thumb) and on the modal piping scale (with the flattened 7th or leading note) They only have a range of one octave. Do they also use a diatonic finger board?
The chanter is the same as the Highland bagpipes, but designed to be played indoors, whereas the highland pipes are meant to be played outdoors.
