  • This is a short film we made back in 2007. Shot on a Canon XLH1 HDV camera with prime cine lenses to try and get rid of that digital look cameras had back then.
Part of my final project during film school. Shot in Canberra Australia, set in Ancient China.

I still shoot with this camera, we just add a Tiffen Lo Con filter onto the stock lens and gets rid of that digital look.

Excellent short film. The film had that cine look with the graininess yet has that high definition depth.

What cine lenses did you use on the camera?

The film is good, only 2 shots looked obviously digital; maybe don't film faces with flickering fire. The first 2 shots were the only real issue, face with orange sky (not sure why) and face looking at flickering fire (probably why, flickering fire.) Can this camera shoot on SD cards or a drive (even external, do any of the outputs work for external drive)?

i like it, it give's that 90-ies soft video look, not as sharp as modern cameras

violent sort of fellow!....just kidding. I thought the video was really good, the picture as good. I've been following the XLh1 and don't know why it's not considered professional with all that you can do with it. I watched a video made with an XL1As and they shot a commercial with it. Now that was only a standard def. camera and it was crisp as a bell and the color was great. Shot in bright day light though. I always used polorizers to get more color out of my XL1As, I hope it works for the XLH1 I just got on Ebay, and hope it works okay too (just bought it today). With the XLH1 being priced around 7,000 dollars new, I would think it's a hell of a lot better than consumer grade. The bad news on this camera though is that my old computer with ht e 1399 link doesn't work anymore so I wish the Canon had SD or other format to record on. My problem is I don't have the money I use to to buy anything like this new to keep up with the new equipment. Retired now, I also have no pro use for it but I'll tell you what, I sure am going to have fun with it anyway!!
Nicely done guys!! Looks like the prime lens made a difference

This was a nice amateur video camera with the acceptable video looks for low resolution TV to be viewed.
The XL series should be called "A pro video cameras", but Canon like to boasted the word, "Pro".
Now many products have "Pro" to mostly used by beginners & amateurs for making videos for CZcams.
