I actually believed this was a wonderful setup for the beginning. Why? Because it made you realize that anyone can get dragged to hell. Making you fear for the whole movie that someone as innocent and nice as Christine could be dragged to hell.
She extended her loan TWICE. She already went out of her way to extend her loan twice. Not many people would even extend a loan once. Also, would you not kill one cat to save yourself from eternal hell? 99.999% of people would do the same thing Christine did....only a few strange people wouldnt.

@connor Stealing is stealing little or not. There is no such thing as small or big sins if one refuses to repent of said sins then this will be anyone's fate.
@connor Hell is not a place where God sends people. Hell is a place where people walk in themselves it's a case by case situation thus God first looks at the heart then sees the actions to determine his final decision. If your doctor example if he's a good man trying to feed his family in a desperate situation Then may be show compassion for him like he did with the 5000 Jesus fed who were also hungry. True God gives us free will thus it's our choice to accept his son's love and sacrifice or reject his love and mock him instead (you). Also once someone is old enough to understand right from wrong they are liable for this eternal punishment.
@connor Funny how you claim it's not real yet your own comment "A book got millions killed" kinda contradicts your whole argument 😂 Yet we have thousands of years of history saying otherwise but you do you.

Some people's logic is that is fair to send a kid's soul to hell after being chased and tortured by demons because of stealing something. The person's life wouldn't end because of a stupid necklace, the person wasn't hurted or had his life in danger because of that, but decided that it was fair sending the kid to hell because of that, and people agree. The best part of the horror movies is to show what people truly have inside their hearts lol
She didn't curse him tho. The necklace was already cursed and he stole it. When they tried to return it they refused because the cursed would then be transferred to them. So it wasn't intentionally or punishment. He just stole the wrong shit 😩🤷🏾♀️

Yeah I know man, It's less creepy, Too Controversial, but sure hell in some scenes in the movie are funny, like a talking goat in the séance scene. But one thing is puzzling me the most is after the car fight scene in the movie, That chin sucking part reminds me of the Resident Evil games, I mean the older games like 1, 2, & 3 where the zombies bite the protagonist in the neck, whereas the other RE games don't have that move like Resident Evil 4, they just grab, strangle the character either from the front or the back depending on where the enemies are surrounding or not and then just throw them into the ground. But Bottom line is, that I 100% agree with you is that this movie as you mentioned is Pure Crap.
The first time I saw this movie I was horrified to see a boy being dragged into Hell, and seeing his arm before the portal closed. Sure kids do stupid and reckless things but they don't deserve this. But Sam did give us an understanding of what the main character went through and eventually suffered the same fate. Plus it's the sort of thing you expect from the guy who brought us The Evil Dead franchise.
If I'm not mistaken the gypsies didnt place the curse on the boy, the necklace was already cursed and when he stole it, the curse was transferred to him hence why they gypsies refused to take it back, same with Christine, if she returned the button back to the lady, the curse would no longer be on her

yeah, movies can be disturbing. that's why it's called "horror", you're having an over reaction over some individuals subjective opinion. go play with your toys little child.
Despite of stealing the necklace, it won't prove enough more innocence to his own innocent. But radically they tried to give it back, stealing from the gypsy wagon. Instead but if he didn't realize he stoled a "Cursed Necklace" thinking it was less valuable necklace. Then it still proves his innocent, severely he should not be very guilty at all

as tragic as this opening seems, i cant help but picture a slightly funny broadcast the following day XP "Were reporting from the hawaiian resort where a young Jerriah was suddenly dragged to hell earlier today. Mr. And Mrs. Mued, can you describe what happenrd?" "THEY DRAGGED OUR SON TO HELL!" "Wonderful. And now here's Timmy Low with the weather, Tim?"
I never just noticed this until last week, this opening for Drag Me to Hell (2009) had foreshadowed the ending of this movie since it reveals that NO ONE is safe from the wrath of Satan, demons, and hell.
Even though I clearly see him being dragged to Hell, I’d like to believe that God sees Juan’s innocence and that Juan actually crossed over into Heaven. 🥺😭
Well Lamia is a Greek demon, so there is no God or Jesus in this movie. She is known as a kid murderer in Greek myths, I think there is no salvation for this kid.
I love how there are so many comments talking about how horrible this scene is despite the fact that if you're here that means you were actively looking for this exact movie scene.
I agree, what makes this scary is the complete absence of the idea so common in horror that if you are a good/innocent person evil won't be able to harm you. In fact the more the main character shows her good side the more damned she becomes. Agree with the poster who says it is scary and also funny, great movie.
I always wondered that too...was she gonna make herself go to hell or something?...because that's the only way she'll ever see the demon or the child again...smh
Doesn’t matter. Both are in hell so she’s saying her fate is most likely sealed. I can’t blame her if he’s being condemned for stealing a necklace. Getting into Heaven is an extremely narrow path and only a few can navigate it. So most of us are going to hell lol b
2 things that don't make sense whatsoever: 1) How did he survive the fall or was even able to slightly get up? At that age he would've been severely injured 2) The parents are 2 stories above, it would've taken them 6 seconds to get down there, espcially when they're in that kind of worry. Meanwhile it took the demon more than 25 seconds to actually grab him. Nevertheless, he still gets dragged down and the parents never showed up in the last minute
Justice I think it's just an effect to show that you are dragged alone and hopeless, noone is even close enough to help you and you can't even utter your last words properly. If it's not a just a huge mistake of course.
This gave me nightmares as a kid. But now what bothers me most is that this kid never got a rescue of any kind. I know not every story needs a happy ending but I want one at least to have my soul at ease. Jesus that screaming had me sold and got me feeling really fucking bad for the kid.
As a rational adult that does believe in the paranormal, this scene literally terrifies me. It was a young child who made a silly mistake and gets dragged to hell itself DESPITE light, blessing spiritual light to SAVE him, he suffers the WORST fate. This opening really REALLY set the tone for this FANTASTIC and horrifying film.
Really sets up how powerful the curse is. To make a child suffer an eternal damnation over a stolen necklace? You'se gotta be one nasty evil old lady 🤢
That is true though... I never thought of it that way. In both situations, the kid and Christine were drug down after near death situations. The kid was thrown off a balcony and Christine was almost hit the train and right after both of those situations, the demons were able to grab then.
Ah so maybe this maybe the boy and Christine were tormented so much that they both committed suicide cause they just wanted the visions to end and in the process you could see their souls being dragged to hell just a theory kind of like judas in the passion he was being tormented that he couldn't live with what he did and there it is again just a theory

Yeah, this is my first time seeing this scene and it made my eyes water. I read this comment beforehand and thought that nothing could top the little boy in Doctor Sleep, but this was DEFINITELY up there.
man I feel bad for the kid
he did not deserve to go to hell
Its what the movie teaches us about
Anyone can get dragged to hell, innocent or not
@@TheBubber5000 well he kind of did cuz he stole something but partly they tried to give it back
@@Jerraro
It's a disturbing message, but at least it's only a stupid movie, and the kid actor is probably totally fine right now. The director is clearly demented, but his ideas aren't reality.
I feel like the director should be punished for making such a cruel film.
Is it even well-written? What's the point of this movie if the girl fails at the end?
I actually felt bad for Juan.
“Actually”??
I actually believed this was a wonderful setup for the beginning.
Why?
Because it made you realize that anyone can get dragged to hell. Making you fear for the whole movie that someone as innocent and nice as Christine could be dragged to hell.
+Kafss Innocent and nice? She denied a loan even though she could have extended it and sacrificed a cat!
She extended her loan TWICE. She already went out of her way to extend her loan twice. Not many people would even extend a loan once.
Also, would you not kill one cat to save yourself from eternal hell? 99.999% of people would do the same thing Christine did....only a few strange people wouldnt.
Kafu Shoda I'm not going to sacrifice a random ass cat who did nothing wrong and doesn't understand what's going on. Especially not my own pet who I would have raised, fed and sheltered! I'd find somebody more deserving.
+Nyrufa Like Justin Beilber
+Nyrufa
Except remember, at that part of the movie, she was told that *ONLY* at animal's death could break the curse of going to hell.
So you cant blame her for killing the cat. Unless you would say that you'd rather burn for eternity than kill a cat.
Amazing acting from the kid, 11/10
Lol, you guys, the boy wasn't punished for stealing the necklace! He stole a cursed necklace, and by stealing it its "ownership" transferred to him and therefore he was also cursed in the process. That is why when the parents tried to return the necklace, the gypsies wouldn't take it back.
I guess that makes things a little less horrible. But it's still disturbing.
Demon ultracombo'd the boy's father! XD

@connor Hell is a place where it's locked from the inside.

Damn that's deep
Wont god have the power to get him to heaven?
@YaGka that’s not how it works.
This makes the antagonist the worst person ever if she cursed a young boy to go to hell like this
She didn't curse him tho. The necklace was already cursed and he stole it. When they tried to return it they refused because the cursed would then be transferred to them. So it wasn't intentionally or punishment. He just stole the wrong shit 😩🤷🏾♀️

This movie is bullshit an old lady decides to curse someone from only doing her job. This movie makes me so mad
Gypsies in fiction are recently being depicted as vengeful beings. Ironically, gypsies are usually depicted as nice people in werewolf films!

@@kevinlee3572 yes cause i am so moral

It's a comedy?!
Idk why I laughed at the parent's getting smacked almost like them being smacked for allowing the kid to steal.
They shouldn't do that to an innocent little boy!
Bev Conaway "innocent" what do u mean "innocent"? He stole a cursed necklace. He's not innocent
But sent to hell?
Despite of stealing the necklace, it won't prove enough more innocence to his own innocent. But radically they tried to give it back, stealing from the gypsy wagon.
Instead but if he didn't realize he stoled a "Cursed Necklace" thinking it was less valuable necklace. Then it still proves his innocent, severely he should not be very guilty at all

I've still got the Blu-ray and that film is still a terrifying but awesome horror movie.
Only Sam Raimi can properly pull off the difficult balance between horror and comedy.

I agree, what makes this scary is the complete absence of the idea so common in horror that if you are a good/innocent person evil won't be able to harm you. In fact the more the main character shows her good side the more damned she becomes. Agree with the poster who says it is scary and also funny, great movie.

@P Princess thanks for your lovely contribution, dickhead
Doesn’t matter. Both are in hell so she’s saying her fate is most likely sealed. I can’t blame her if he’s being condemned for stealing a necklace. Getting into Heaven is an extremely narrow path and only a few can navigate it. So most of us are going to hell lol b

Sure . . .
When I first watched this movie when I was younger I swear on my life I was scared to walk for like 12 weeks
I saw this only when I was a kid, and it scared the everlasting shit out of me
2 things that don't make sense whatsoever:
1) How did he survive the fall or was even able to slightly get up? At that age he would've been severely injured
2) The parents are 2 stories above, it would've taken them 6 seconds to get down there, espcially when they're in that kind of worry.
I wonder, what if Doomsday from Superman v. Batman was cursed and the demons "tried" to drag him to hell? (It's a crossover)
I wouldn't rely so stridently on actual seconds on the clock when watching movies, especially in a paranormal genre during paranormal moments.
The parents had really bad knees XD lol
It’s a movie. It isn’t meant to take roughly accurate estimations of the amount of time. It’s not meant to be realistic dude
The fact that the CHILD is going to hell really frightens me

As a rational adult that does believe in the paranormal, this scene literally terrifies me. It was a young child who made a silly mistake and gets dragged to hell itself DESPITE light, blessing spiritual light to SAVE him, he suffers the WORST fate.
This opening really REALLY set the tone for this FANTASTIC and horrifying film.
Really sets up how powerful the curse is. To make a child suffer an eternal damnation over a stolen necklace? You'se gotta be one nasty evil old lady 🤢

This scene is so disturbing, the boys scream gives me goosebumps every time.
This scene traumatized me as a child
Same
Bloody hell! that kid being pulled through the floor GAVE...ME...CHILLS!, i looked down at my floor just then!!!!
That is true though... I never thought of it that way. In both situations, the kid and Christine were drug down after near death situations. The kid was thrown off a balcony and Christine was almost hit the train and right after both of those situations, the demons were able to grab then.
They weren’t “near death” they were fatal. They died and the parents and pyshic witnessed there afterlife
Still wish they’d do some kind of Drag Me From Hell sequel where the try to rescue Christine and Juan
But it would ruin the film
