This is the most musically beautiful interpretations of the Strauss 2nd I have ever heard. His musicianship is impeccable, phrasing is elegant and well thought out. It's not often that you hear musicianship of this quality. His technical execution is as good as it gets. I would like to much more of this young hornist.

I love this concerto, much as I love most late Strauss. As a clarinetist, I would note the many great clarinet licks in this piece, which are so fun to play.

This is my new favourite version of this piece- so flowing, so melodic so serene, considering Strauss wrote it in the midst of the horrors of Germany in WW 2. It gives us a glimpse of his 4 Last Songs to come later. Every phrase, every turn every dynamic change-- beautifully managed. Nothing like the energy and tension of a masterful live performance FROM MEMORY !!! Strauss' mastery of a vocal line is exquisite. This piece could just as well be a concerto for Heldentenor. Many thanks to Szabolcs and Darius.

I just wanted to listen to the beginning of his recording to see how Zempleni compares to Brain and my other favorites.... I couldn't stop listening! Musical! not the mechanical play all the notes and rhythms that horn playing of the last 30 years has become. No need for the Schmid triple, this is stellar!!! Bravo!

I believe this is the best musical interpretation of this concerto I have heard since first listening to the Dennis Brain version over fifty years ago. Since I have listened to the Brain recording probably hundreds of time, I can't help but compare. In the first movement Brain is a little more playful and light with some of the passages. In the third movement, Zemplini plays some passages a little more forcefully than Brain, but they are passages that perhaps should be a little more forcefully. Many can learn rather good technique, but few seem to rise to Zemplini's level of musicianship.
