Is it still dangerous to wear a pair of Nike Cortezs in your hood? It’s definitely not as crazy where I’m from lol
I'm can't rock Cortez but I rock Adidas Cloud Foams cause Cortez hurts my feet.
I live in Inglewood so there is a lot of gang influence and I stay wearing all whites or Kendrick's house shoes but there was never a problem in our neighborhood with any shoe
Man what beat is that in the background?
DeLorean Baker The dude narrating made that beat 😂
Fernando Barragan I need a pair of those Kendrick house shoes! Super clean
The narrator sounds depressed af. Get em some cortez
Rodolfo Cupa yeah he gotta go
hahahaha! funny
Rodolfo Cupa makes the video more better
Sounds more like he's falling asleep.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When you tryna dress as Marty Mcfly but get shot instead
Daddy Eyebrows 😂😂😂 that’s funny
So true! The Nike shoes that McFly wears in Back to the Future are called "Nike Bruins", which are vintage shoes that are pretty expensive and rare nowadays. The Nike Cortez is the closest you will find in store. Since I am a Back to the Future nut, I still want to get the Nike Bruins, and only the exact same ones Marty McFly has! I was so desperate to finish my Marty McFly outfit to the point where I was considering getting a Cortez but I decided to wait it out and buy Bruin instead if I ever get the chance.
itsthatguy you can always make your own custom color way on Nike's website to match the bruins (plain white midsole but pretty much the Cortez) . . . I hope they release them again soon
itsthatguy the closest you can get are the Nike court royale in white and red
They be callin you Marty McDie after that.
I remember asking my friend jokingly in middle school “Yo wtf are u wearing” and he responded “killer’s shoes”
Maybe you heard wrong(killer shoes)???
cortez the killer
😂
Crazy because nowadays, the crime shoes are supposedly & allegedly the “black Nike Air Forces” well at least up northeast 🗽
I remember buying Cortez in high school because they were the cheapest nikes.
$42 bucks only in black shoe carnival in the mall
but so cool
You can still find them for cheap
even til now its still cheap

So they just named their shoe, the defeater of the adidas shoe?? A pretty savage move
Problem with this story is the Adidas shoe was a sprint spike and the Tiger Cortez was a long distance trainer.
It would have been savage if Tiger called its premium spike shoe the Cortez.
I wasn’t allowed to buy Nike Cortez when I was in high school bc they were too hood to my parents 😂 I just turned 30 and realized I can buy them my damn self 🤦🏽♀️ #GrowingUpMexican
They should just call them Nike Vatos

True Story: My first pair of Nike's was the Cortez. I'll never forget that Summer weekend in 1996 my dad took me and my siblings to Warehouse Shoe Sale. The Black/White Nylon colorway was my weapon of choice and the rest is history.
Oralè, Shoooooaaaaa
I've never much liked this silhouette but the first thing I noticed when I first whe went to the US was how common they were. Where I grew up the Air Max and Air Force Ones were much bigger so I was surprised to see the Cortez so much, but hearing the story now puts it into context. Love how sometimes these things can grow to be symbolically much more than just a shoe.

MS13?, you got your history wrong, dude. I was born and raised in Los, the cholos -which were originally all Mexican and still overwhelmingly are- are the gangsters that started wearing the shoe. While Bloods and Crips wearing Fila, Lottos and other brands in the late mid 80’s, Cholos were rocking the Cortez shoes, usually black, dark blue suede, or white. MS-13 took their style from Mexican gangsters, because the Mara came way later.
Antonio Martinez it’s what came up in the research I did appreciate the feedback
@@NachoAverageFinds, Lmao! MS only got famous in the late 2000's because CNN gave them all that propaganda to talk bad about Central Americans.. They didn't even truly exist until the 90's.. cool video until your dumb "ms" part..

owning some Cortez and tailwind 79 one similarity with these Nike shoes is that they are not good on wet floors. For those who are planning to buy these shoes, be careful when walking on floor that are wet or just mopped because they tend to be very slippery!
I absolutely love the Nike Cortez. I'm 45 years old and have been wearing this shoes since I was 13 years old. I own a pair of triple white leather Cortez and I only wear them during the summer time.

Incredibly enough I bought my first Nike Cortez 1972 ( the one that have the rubber toe coverage on the tip of the shoe similar to the Tiger Onizuka Corsair.) I wore them until they fell apart , this happened in 1994. Since then I've been looking to find them but I wasn't able until few months ago. I am now 58 and for father's day my kids food a pair "brand new" original NIKE CORTEZ '72. Boy was I happy!

I remember having a pair of cortez around 1980-1982. It was all leather without the nylon. I also had the Nike Air Pegasus in the early 80’s. These were made with the thin nylon that were in the early cortez.
It was Mexican Gangs that made them popular. Not MS.
steven lopez I dunno 🤷♂️ maybe I wasn’t around
NachoAverageFinds True! MS actually started out as Rockers/Stoners I remember seeing them with vans, jeans and A/C D/C shirts.
yogistogi what year was this ?
NachoAverageFinds about 87-88
yogistogi oh ok I was 4 years old 😂😂
I’m Mexican, from the Bay Area (Cali), and though I wore them when I was a teenager, and still think they look sick AF I don’t think I’d wear them now. Maybe if you’re from another race you’d be cool, but as a Mexican you’re simply asking for someone to hit you up and ask where you’re from.
Pussy
Trigueros Argueta Diego Fernando oh, I believe you man. I used to work with kids from El Salvador and they used to tell me some crazy ass stories. Funny thing is that they wouldn’t wear Cortez’s there but the money they came you’d see them wearing Cortez’s and locs lol

I remember walking to school a kid infront of me were wearing Cortez shoes. Literally a gangster from a block away saw him and got off his car and got into his face and told him where he was from and the kid said nowhere... and the gangster was like why you wearing Cortez then... and the kid just stayed quiet. So the gangster socked him in the face and told him to better not where Cortez shoes anymore. The next day the kid was wearing navy blue chucks
Samuel Gonzales sheesh that’s harsh
Thats a funny story😂😂
Navy blue chucks? Them crips in cali wear that shit
James Emmanuel D. Garcia naw they both were Hispanic
+Samuel Gonzales Still ironic that to wear a non gang related shoe he would chose a blue converse trainer since that’s also heavily a part of gang culture. The whole thing is fucked.
I wore these in jr high in the late 70s in Wisconsin and was totally unaware of the gang culture associated with the shoe. I was recently considering getting another pair, I really loved them!!
lol same, my first Nikes in grade school, I think very early 80s, in rural WV, it’s funny to see them called gangsta to me. I also want to get another pair now
