OK, got to admit, I cheated a bit. I live in Hue, Vietnam, and they have a KFC, so I went there and bought some popcorn chicken, went home, made the sauce, and it was great. Saved a lot of time and clean-up, and my Vietnamese friends loved it. Oh, I substituted the 1/4 cup of water for 1/4 cup of more orange juice, just to kick up the flavor a notch.

Hey Tess! I made this today for my
Family. It was spot on! I didn’t follow the exact measurements but....I did
Use the exact ingredients.... I didn’t have a grater so instead I cut off a little of the orange peel and cut it into tiny thin strips...I eyeballed the wet ingredients into my wok...I boiled it and then tasted it...I added more honey because I wanted it sweeter....then I added a cornstarch slurry...wasn’t thick enough then I added a slurry with more cornstarch then water and then it was perfect for tossing....the chicken was juicy and flavorful. It was beyond my imagination...my family said it was amazing. Oh and by the way instead of using red chili flakes I used red chili sauce...it was still perfect! Thank you for your recipe!

Hi Tess, well another HOME RUN!!! I made this for dinner tonight, possibly one of the best I have tasted! I did a double fry on the chicken, crispy crispy, crispy! The sauce is perfect, going to try different types of Oranges, that should induce a subtle flavor difference! YUMMY!!

I cant wait to make this tonight. Husband says thighs would be wrong, but I only her vids using them. Any opinioms? Already bought chicken thighs, hoping to not haft a buy breasts too haha. Does fresh ginger make any difference u think? Or can I use ground. I think the fresher the better, prob, but I haven't a clue how to use fresh gjnger, li,ee do u haft a peel it or can you just grate it "as is"? Also I am excited to do the whole "fry 2ce" idea! Thanks not that it makes a real diff., but btw, this isn't bob sewall and that's not his real name, this is his wife, Meg S. I am also excited at finding this woman, tess who made the video , it was almost as relaxing as an asmr one, and it didn't effect my sensory overload, she just has THE most relaxing and soothing voice, making me believe yes I really can make this myself. She is the first I've ever done the who,ee "subscribe" thing for, and I'm really not even sure what that even really means or does haha, I'm 42 going on 80 I guess when it comes to computer stuff today, lol

@@bobsw3792 Defiantly use the thighs, more flavor... fresh ginger is the BEST, well worth the effort just slice the skin off, easy! I just chop/dice to tiny bits, grating would be great also! Tess has the best recipes, I make 5 or so regularly! I always try the new ones, NEVER DISAPPOINTED!

Will let the hubby know thighs really will work, an now I don't hafta buy more chicken, but different haha..,,,.that sounds super easy bout your tip on grating ginger, thanks. Didn't end up making tongight, but probably Monday as I'm working all weekend. What bout the 2ce frying thing, have you triedmthat, I forget what your first comment said. Stay safe and have a fun weekend, finally stopped downpouring, but thank goodness it sure wasn't a hurricane heh.

@@bobsw3792 Hi there, the twice frying thing adds the crispiness at the end. Although, I am usually so hungry, and I make for one, ME! So I just let it cook at 350' for a bit longer, still tastes great. If you are cooking for a few folks, it will also allow you to cook all the first fry batches together so it will be all finished at the same time. You then pull it out of the oil, toss it into your appropriate pan, make the sauce do it's love thing. You will have a great dinner. Tess has many great recipes that I enjoy making, a real winner is "UDON NOODLES STIR FRY" it's a super easy. You can find Udon Noodles at an Asian Market, they are what make this dish so tasty, try it!!

I made this tonight and it was really great! cooking can be so discouraging when you try a “copycat” recipe and it tastes nothing like what you were going for... but this was spot on! I coated my chicken in almond flour and baked at 350 for 30 mins (turning in the middle) for anyone who doesn’t want to fry.
P.s. wait until the chicken cools to add it to the sauce otherwise the “breading” will just fall off. If you need to reheat the chicken, do it in the sauce pan!
