The cycle route, looks like it might have been a disused railway line. Wonderful countryside... You have a great eye for landscapes John... Thanks again... :-)

Thanks Steve. You’re right it was a line connecting the lead mines in Weardale and coal mines in Durham to the ship yards at Sunderland. There are lots of disused lines converted to paths and cycle tracks all over the region.

Hey John, beautiful video my friend and your absolutely bang on with those colours. They are magical, so wonderful. Your choice of music gives me tingles if that's a way of describing it. Super flight and super smooth.... loved it and thank you for sharing this delightful video with us. 😀👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you Kim, luckily there are LUTs which take care of the colours for me (mostly). I know exactly what you mean about the music, I loved this piece as soon as I heard it, I'm sure I'll use it again in a different video. If you're interested you can get free LUTs here: www.rocketstock.com/free-after-effects-templates/35-free-luts-for-color-grading-videos/ the one I use here and most often is called Tiegen.

The railway from Bishop Auckland and Tow Law ran through there and connected to the line to Rowley at Burnhill Junction. There was a station at Burnhill and a narrow gauge railway which ran into the munitions depot. The bunkers for the depot are still there. It’s all private property.

Nice view from the air, I've cycled up along this way a few times and wondered what the military style fencing is about. The trail used to be the Stanhope and Tyne railway and the fencing would have been there for Saltersgate Ammunition depot, where the trail switches back on itself is where Burnhill junction was. Ammunition was brought from factories in Weardale and stored in bunkers in whart is now Parkhead plantation, you can see from the air where the lines would have met. Would be great to hear of more info on this area.

Thanks for watching Paul. I cycled that route a few times myself and also wondered about the military style fences. Even though I knew about the munitions depot at Saltersgate, I hadn't connected the two in my head, at least not until I did some aerial footage of Saltergate a few months later. That video is here: czcams.com/video/8xPW8lHhQa8/video.html

    It’s an airfield

Hi, thank you. It's actually part of 'Salters gate' munitions depot, built by the MOD but abandoned years ago. I didn't realise that at the time I flew the drone, even though I made another video about that very Depot a few months before.

      Not an airfield.
