Phénoménale Deutekom ! La voix est extra-terrestre, oui, vraiment, mais le chant est intergalactique, il touche l'âme et le coeur. Humains,écoutez et priez.
Damn she was so very, very good. Beautiful voice. Outstanding technique. The queen of effortless. This is absolutely fabulous.
Stunning. Thank you. I heard her live singing Lucia. I couldn't believe the size of her voice, - the brightness just rang throughout the house. Effortlessly. No one can sing long phrases like she can. Nobody today comes anywhere close. This is wonderful. I'm grateful it was recorded.

It is amazing that she was still singing this so well. I heard her Norma at the Chicago Lyric in the early 70's and it was spectacular.
Fantastic rendition of this finale, and I can't believe her fresh tone and easy singing come from a 55-year-old woman. She was technically and musically so remarkable!
She never really did have a decline in voice, did she? It was only declining health that brought her retirement.

Wenn ich C. Deutekom singen höre bin ich jedes Mal einfach hingerissen vom absoluten Wohlklang ihrer Stimme! Jahrzentelang verfolgte ich ihre Karriere und immer wieder übertraf sie sich selbst. Sei es in Buenos Aires, in New York (jene phänomenale Elena) oder überall in Europa. Leider ist nun diese einmalige Stimme für immer verstummt. Gott sei Dank haben wir viele (aber leider auch viel zu wenige) Tondokumente dieser ausserirdisch schönen Stimme!
_Montserrat Caballe, in my opinion, performed this role better than ANY singer AND I always liked Deutekom's voice AND now I'm hearing Deutekom for the first time in this scene ! SWEET JESUS ! WHAT A MAGNIFICENT VOICE ! A MAGNIFICENT SINGER !_
_It's a wonderful thing Norma's Father wasn't forgiving, at first. What we would have missed in the pathos of Deutekom's singing ! ( AND the Bass is a big guy AND his Stature Supports his Cavernous Voice ! )_

Caballe's Normas was her... pianissimos. That's it. A lyric soprano can't be a drammatica or, even less, a sfogatto.

Oh how I wish Casta Diva existed!!!! I just adore her timbre! And to think she stopped singing at the end of 86 due to health issues.

A very relaxed open throat, so the vocal cords could vibrate freely in the space and resonance travelled to the right cavities. So no obstacles in between and just great support from the diafragma in one line.
When she coached singers she was always so clear and simple in her explanation, but of course to DO so was the most hardest.
She had a clear mind and great talent. We loved her!

I actually never liked Norma UNTIL I heard it sung by Deutekom! ~ Perfect for the role, and quite surprising I might add ... not merely the coloratura queen we so long associate her with ... Beautifully sung Norma! However has the rest, PLEASE come forward-!

She sung lik a bird, the only one who was able to do that, last saturday I was at het grave and let her sing again, putting my phone on the grave and playd her recordings!. fantastic!

The voice per se is an amazing thing. Her sense of rhythm and the architecture of the phrase is...idiosyncratic.
Diction and technique absolutely perfect, in some parts even better than Maria Callas due to not crooning
Callas didn’t croon on stage. She only did that on her studio recordings.

It could be the device on which you are listening. Overtones not there. She is dead on.

This note is a little out of tune 2:30 , is her voice because the instruments are on pitch...
Yes - this was literally shortly before her heart attack. In the 80s she did have a tendency to sing a little flat.
