great stuff! Makes me wonder why not more bikefitters are considering stance width when doing a fit...

I think I’m having this problem where my right knee is pointing out.

I had knee issues until I got short cranks (165) speed play zero pedals and lake wide shoes,w/ good professional physical therapist bike fitter.

The higher-end Look pedals have longer threaded sections that allow a 2mm washer without compromising strength.
Time road cleats can be reversed left and right to move the shoes in or out a bit.
Issi (QBP house brand) used to offer a few widths in their SPD style pedals, but sadly those are NLA.
It can also be helpful to explore cranks that have wider q factors. The White Industries cranks run wide for example.

Great video! No bike fitter, but I did notice in the video that the riders pelvis is twisted to the left while pedaling? It did get better after the Q change.

Great video 😊, I recently built a E bike using a mid drive motor. I’m starting to have trouble with foot & knee pain. (Big-time) I took a measurement of the Q- factor on e-bike compared to my road bike which has been pro fitted to me and causes No discomfort issues. The Q factor measurements on e-bike are well over two inches wider 😮 than my other bikes 😢. I’m at a loss 😢. For there is no way to decrease the Q on these motor setups 😢.I’ve installed shorter cranks on e-bike hoping that would help with some discomfort..No Dice😢

Do you think shorter cranks would also help with knee tracking? My bike came with 175s, and I'm planning to switch them for 165s

Hey, great videos. Was just searching the googles and found your video…
what do you think of the pedal spacers or washers? I need to get my heel from rubbing on the crank.

Thank you! I think that pedal washers are fine however, practically it will only give you maybe 1-2 mm of additional safely until you run into issues of the amount of thread left on pedal. So for that reason, I rarely bother with it and just jump to a longer axle such as a Shimano +4 mm or speed play 56 mm.

Yeah, I was worried about that, I have an investment in dura ace and xtr pedals, and hate the thought of buying new pedals, plus no knee pain…guess I’ll see if one washer helps and move the cleats inward , otherwise maybe a bike fitter for me.

It’s certainly worth a try and won’t hurt. Good luck - enjoy every ride !
