You really are a breath of fresh air Ruan. I love your approach to sizes too. Well said!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Honesty you should have way more subscribers, you're awesome! I love the boiled wool coat, such a fabulous colour on you.
Thank you so much lovely - appreciate that :)
I just loved the sounds of a family trying to be quiet while mom is busy doing something for herself. I miss that sometimes.
I should remember that. I’m sure I’ll miss it too 🥺
Your videos brighten my day. I’m new to dressmaking and love watching CZcamsrs to find inspiration. You’re very much on my wave length and you are so right, we’re so much more than a number! X
Thank you so much ☺️
You are fabulous, Ruan. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous makes.
My pleasure! Thank you 😊
I never put the feed dogs down when using my walking foot. The foot and the feed dogs work together to pull the fabric through evenly. Your jacket is a stunning colour and looks great on you.
I thought that was the case but it seemed strange that the boiled wool didn't seem to like it! Thank you for confirming my thoughts x
❤ the coat! Very clever seams. I think the idea of the walking foot is it works with the feed digs to make sure the top and bottom fabrics are fed through together. Boiled wool is so stable it doesn't need the walking foot.
I thought so! I thought I was going crazy - thanks for confirming!
All your garments look great.I loved the boiled wool jacket, the colour is sumptuous and it looks fab on you. Your Bet Lynch dress looks so much more classy.,the fabric is stunning You can buy a gathering foot for your sewing machine which makes gathering a breeze. Your hair colour and style looks amazing.
Thank you! Yes I must try the gathering foot and someone suggested doing it on my overlocker too. I need to experiment!
Love all your makes.. You sure know your style .. Love the size reminder.. we all need to remember
Thank you lovely ☺️
I love everything you make. And you make me feel more confidant in sewing certain patterns, I think we are about the same size. You are always so beautiful in all your clothes. Thank you
That is so lovely to hear. Thank you ☺️
“Jaaaaaaaack……….. shut it” made me laugh out load that did. Please don’t ever change 😂 my boy is called Jack and it could’ve easily been me saying it. Love your relaxed style and your sewing inspires me 😊
🤣🤣🤣. Home life eh! 🤪
Great makes! Love the top!! Your new space is fabulous 😍! Can't wait to see what you make next!🌷🌹❤️🌄🌻😊
Thanks so much! 😊
I loved all of your makes but my ultimate favourite is the Nomi dress. I bought the magazine after seeing you show the pattern when you got it. Congrats on the 8k too. ❤
Aww thank you 😊
You are so funny and a hoot to watch. I love all your makes and advice and tips. Thank you for your time and expertise.
You are so welcome! Thank you ☺️

I appreciate that! Thank you ☺️
Your jacket Ruan is amazing. 🌈🍓💙🧶
Thank you 😊
Love the black, grey, white dress!
Thank you!
I agree with you Ruan, the top you are wearing is lovely, excellent color for you. The size thing can be a bit off-putting, but like you said “who cares”! I like it.
Exactly! It’s just a number 🙂
The boiled wool coat is awesome and it goes with your hair. Looks fabulous!
Oh thank you!
I would have to say your coat is my favorite Ruan. The top your wearing is beautiful and goes well with the coat. I liked everything you have made so far.
Thanks so much!
Well I totally love your Nomi ❤❤❤ but that coat is another level. Love it ❤ xx
Thanks lovely ☺️
Love them all, but love the Berlin jacket. I’m so tempted to make that
Love you talking about sizes Ruan - you're a legend! 👏👏 I love all your makes, but the Tessuti jacket is my fav. You've given me the inspo to make it. Thanks for sharing 😻
Yay…go for it honey. See you soon 💃🏻 🥰
Congratulations on 8000! That’s amazing 🎉. My favourite make is the boiled wool coat - what a glorious colour 😍
Thank you so much!
I do love the Tessuti top with the swingy hem. Looks great!❤the jacket color is perfect for you!
Thank you 😊
Congratulations. I so enjoy your vlogs, always great to watch. Love all of your makes.
I'm so glad! Thank you 😊
The colours of your top and the Berlin jacket are lovely, my favourites and also great with your hair. I think my favourite garment is your top but also your boiled wool jacket comes a close second. The Nomi is great too 😊
Oh thank you!
Hi Rowan thanks for your videos I love watching, Wendy.

Yes the Berlin jacket is a great pattern and after seeing your Hazlewood I fancy making it too! Thanks for tips on sizing.

The boiled wool jacket is gorgeous ❤
Thank you!
Congratulations on your 8000+ subscribers. Love watching your vlogs. Your jacket is smashing.
Thank you so much!!
Omg that Berlin coat in that colour is amazing 😍
Thank you!
Such fun! Your makes are all so beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Lovely makes! The top you’re wearing is very flattering on you. It’s perfect for you! It’ll be great for dreary winter and spring days. Congratulations on hitting over 8,000! I’m not surprised. Do you know, I get very happy when I see a notification from you here on CZcams. Makes my day. I’m sure I’m not alone, in fact your 8,000 milestone confirms it. Take care!
Thank you so much. That’s really kind of you to say ❤️
Fab makes- enjoy your videos so much thanks 🙏🏽
Glad you like them! 😊
The colour of you jacket and jumper are devine ❤
Thank you lovely ☺️
Hope you managed to escape from the escape room after your night out with the girlies 😂. Love your coat it’d look fab with the top you’re wearing. Great makes as always. Happy sewing 🧵 😊 🧵
We did - he he - the prosecco helped I think!
The Berlin coat is lovely. Let's hope you don't need a wool coat much longer this year. It will be nice to get the summer clothes out.
Oh yes! I’m dreaming of the sun ☀️
Congratulations Ruan on your 8000 subscribers 👏🎉🎊... You so deserve it and more 🙏💖. Can't really pick a favorate, as I love them all 🥰. Have I missed the boat on that sewing mag for the pattern... I would love to get that. Thanks again for all you share and for being so funny, entertaining and just you 🙏🤗💖😘
Thank you so much Sally! Oh I think you might have missed it. I’m sure you can get back copies on line though 🤔
congratulations love the coat and top you are wearing ,inspiring as usual
Thank you so much!
Love those colours on you ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Congrats on the subscriber milestone 🎉 That top looks amazing on you
Thank you so much!!
New subscriber, why have I not discovered you before??? So refreshing with you no nonsense attitude a great reminder to 'get over ourselves' lol. So looking forward to the next one.
Yay!! Welcome aboard lovely 😊
Love the jacket. Really suits you
Thank you 😊
Fantastic video and I look forward to seeing part 2. Love all the makes, can’t choose between them x
Thanks so much 😊
Great to have you back with a makes vlog, love it. All your makes are gorgeous particularly the top you are wearing and the aubergine coat, they’re absolutely fabulous. I love the coat colour, one of my favs. They’re gone onto the list!🤷🏼♀️😅
My 33 year old Pfaff has a built in walking foot and I would never drop the feed dogs for regular sewing. I would drop the feed dogs only for free machine embroidery in my experience.
Thank you so much! And thanks for confirming what I thought about the feed dogs! 😊
Lovely makes!! That gingham is lush 😊
Thank you! 😊
Awesome makes.
Thank you!
Great video as always Ruan
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
I love your coat! The color is amazing on you!
Thank you so much!!
Oh i love the coat! Great job on all your makes and I think you are right about the dress. The weight of the skirt is pulling it down maybe if you shorten that it won’t have that much weight or make the elastic tighter.
Yes that’s what I’m thinking 🤞🏼
Your Hazelwood is gorgeous! Those colors are so beautiful on you, and you did a wonderful job. Sometimes the spontaneous efforts prove to be “meant to be” garments. I actually love a faced hem, particularly anywhere there is a pronounced flair or taper, because the hem is absolutely precise when turned up. Big fan, here. Big, BIG fan! 😍😍😍
Yes! I’m loving the facing. Such a professional look too!
Great video!! Favourite = boiled wool.
Thank you!
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SUBSCRIBERS! I just love your videos and look so forward to seeing you and your positivity and cheerfulness. I LOVE your makes! So inspiring. Thank you!😃
Oh thank you so much!
I put feed dogs down ❤ I love the hazel wood top , so pleased I found your channel ( through Andreas )
Awww hi Susan 👋🏼. That’s good to know about the feed dogs 👍🏼
Always late to the party. I don't put my feed dogs down when I use my walking foot even though many people say that you must! Thanks for another great video, see you at the Gathering.
Yay. See you there!
that dress looks stunning on you!!!
Thank you!!
Thank you for another uplifting video! I always have a giggle to lift my day. I notice you have an overlocker...I use my overlocker for gathering always. Just put your differential feed to 2 (the top), lengthen your stitch (4) and away you go. If it's not gathered enough you can pull on the needle threads to tighten up a bit and it will easily stretch out to fit whatever piece (ie bodice) it needs to fit. The fastest, easiest and best looking gathers ever 🤓 Also I agree with you that the bodice is likely being dragged down by all that fabric - maybe use a woven instead - like a very light viscose challis. The tiers really don't have to be in a knit. The last tier could even be s super sheer woven. I would also make those tiers in the smallest size to cut down on all that gathering. I always do that as well.
Thank you so much! I'm definitely going to give that a try!
LOVE your Bet Lynch fabric Ruan! I do love me a bit of animal print 😂 Your boiled wool jacket is gorgeous too, may just have to make that 💞
Can’t beat a bit of animal print 🐾 🤪
I’ve only recently come across you and your Northern Sewl Sisters and am delighted as I’m 5’9” and a size 16 too. Don’t think my sewing will ever be as good as yours though.
So glad you’ve joined us 😊
Honestly, you really are the best medicine on a gloomy day, loved all of your makes, couldn’t possibly decide on a favourite. Looking forward to the next one now! Sending lots of love, best telly ever Xx
Wow, thank you! That’s so kind 🥰
Love your jacket - and I feel you on the cat hair thing. I have exactly the same problem!
Right?! 🐈🤣
Well done on 8000 subscribers but then you are ace 😊 absolutely love watching your vlogs. The coat is gorgeous that's so my style especially for hopping in and the car and nipping here and there, I don't always like to wear a a thick heavy coat so you've inspired me to make this ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Great vlog Ruan, love your top but my favourite was the boiled wool jacket
Mine too!
This was great!
Thank you 😊
Hello Ryan, I watch often, I love your videos, and I subscribed a while ago, and if I could subscribe twice I would! Thank you for all the smiles you have put on my face! ❤
Thank you so much! 🥰
@@theyorkshiresewgirl sorry, predictive text… I did mean Ruan ! X
I also have that pink and red fabric - I made a Harper cardigan with mine. It's a beautiful fabric and I absolutely love the tone of the colours as they're both bright and rich at the same time!
Ooh I bet a cardigan in that fabric is amazing!!!
Hi Ruan. The boiled wool jacket is gorgeous. I once had a beloved short purple boiled wool jacket that was unlined. A caution: when I hand-washed it the sleeves shank 6 inches and the whole body of the jacket was much smaller too; it looked like a jacket for a doll with T-rex arms. I dislike dry cleaning, but wish I had done it for that boiled wool jacket. I've avoided sewing with boiled wool since, even though I love the fabric. ~ Antonia
Ooh thank you for the tip! I'm hoping I can really look after this with it being outerwear - fingers crossed!
My favourite has to be the boiled wool jacket. I loved everything about it……the design, the texture, the colour, and it looked fabulous on you. Your top is awesome too.
Thank you so much 😊
Love the top you are wearing Ruan, the colours are perfect on you. How fortuitous that your coat is a fantastic match too. Really gorgeous dress too.
Thanks so much!
What fab makes! Love that coat. What a colour! 😃😃🤩🤩 Your top is also divine. I can see why you love it 😍😍 I think I need to investigate that pattern. I haven't made any Tessuti patterns 😆😆
Thanks lovely. Think you’ll love their patterns 😍
The jacket is gorgeous. Some of the better machines don't need the walking foot for normal sewing.
Yes I’m thinking that might have been the case with mine!
Lovely colour palette it really suits you. Thank you for sharing some gorgeous makes 😊
Thank you!
Great video as always, congrats on reaching 8,000 subscribers, you are such a tonic you should be prescribed by the NHS.I thought all of your makes were terrific but the Berlin jacket is my favourite. Your new sewing room is fab.🌹🌹🌹
Aww thank you! 🥰🥰
Thank you again for another wonderful makes video. I would love to get my hands on some of that fabric, but it is very difficult. I guess I’ll have to fly to the UK!
He he ✈️
Love the top you are wearing, and the wool coat! Just purchased the top pattern on your recommendation.🤗
Oh yay. Hope you like it as much as I do 😊
Love the dark red\wine fabric color. The pet hair never seems to come out of boiled wool, drives me a little nuts so i often give it a miss
Yes I know! You have to pick it out as it washes itself into the wool doesn’t it 🙈🐈😩
Cannot choose which is the best they are all lovely makes and all made in colours that really suit you.Glad to see the new sewing room too❤
Thank you so much 😊
Ryan your shirt is beautiful and complements you so well
Congratulations on 8,000 subscribers! 🎉🎉. Snicker, an escape room after drinks? Oh, fun! If it was me I’d have a martini (don’t care what kind 😂). I’m making some pajamas for spring and I ordered the Honey top sew kit from Andrea. It’s on the way! Yay! Thank you for sharing! Your friend Diane ❤
Thank you lovely! Can you believe they gave us a bottle of Prosecco in the escape room 🙈🤣🎉
@@theyorkshiresewgirl 😂😂 They were challenging you! Betcha had a really great time. Wish I could’ve been there. Of course, I wouldn’t have been any help after my third glass (I’m a lightweight 😅). 😜
I LOVE the Hazelwood Top and have made a couple of them, the most recent in a beautiful textured merino. I also made the Solvi Jacket out of a very similar boiled wool to your coat. Great minds think alike eh??!!
We must have good taste 😉
Lovely to see all your makes - I really like the Hazlewood - the fabric is fabulous!! xx
Thank you honey - I'm so pleased with it!
Congrats on 8K Ruan🎉 You certainly deserve it! I love the top you are wearing as the fabric looks great with your hair 😍 Your boiled wool jacket is fabulous and again the color really suits you!
Thank you so much!! 🥰
Beautiful makes! I love them all. Gorgeous fabrics and colors that suit you so well 😊. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼 can’t wait to see the rest in your next video.
Thank you so much!
I love the colour co-ordination in your makes at the moment. They are such lovely colours on you. xx
Thank you so much 🙂
Fabulous makes as always. All such fabulous colours on you too. Love the info on the Nomi for us shorties! ❤
He he. The Nomi is unbelievably long! At least you wouldn’t have to buy so much fabric if you decide to make it! 🤪
You look lovely Ruan! ❤ Love all your makes as always x
Oh thank you!
I love all your makes and they all look so nice on you. X
Thank you so much ☺️
Hi Ruan, to stop the jersey viscose from growing you can add clear elastic to the seam allowance on the waist and on the seam allowance between tiers. Don't stretch the elastic, just sew it. This will keep fabric stable on those areas. Hope that helps!
That’s a great idea. Can you do the same with the side seams to stop the weight of the lower tiers dragging it down?
@@skinvet yes! I even add elastic on crotches when making pants (or jumpsuits) in jersey viscose. The key is not to stretch it so you don't modify the shape or fit! On this dress though, I think adding it to the horizontal seams would be enough.
Yes I did that for the top tier but wondering if it would help with the bottom one too 🤔
Beautiful garments, Ruan! I hate gathering any type of fabric, most especially viscose and viscose blends. 😂 I usually turn them in to pleats. You can still add swim elastic or clear elastic to your maxi waistband, just cut it the length of the waistline + overlap length and don’t stretch when sewing. That should help stabilize the waist. I prefer to use the cotton swim elastic myself.
💗 Happy sewing!
Thanks lovely. Yes the waist actually already has elastic but I’m wondering if the fabric is just a bit thin maybe x
I love both the Tesutti patterns ❤️I just wish they had a bigger size range as I really like their aesthetic but am outside their range 😢
I totally agree. I’m out side some of their size ranges too. Really hoping they address that soon 🤞🏼
I love the coat
Me too 😊
