I giggled for weeks over "Oh, no, there's a pope on the road again."
Another "again" that really hits is in one of the most recent TNTL's where Noah throws Kieth a money bag, he pulls out a baby and goes, "not again..." The again really made the reveal a lot funnier.
Easily already top ten lines of 2024
Also, Angela's delivery... chefs kiss
It lives rent free in my head. Literally any time anyone says “oh no” I add “there’s a pope on the road again”
My favourite sketch in these blind doubles was when Shayne came out wearing a giant ‘X’ and just loudly blocked everything people said. The ‘anti improv guy’
And the follow up with Angela saying "Oh no you look like an idiot, it's a guitar!" Brilliant
@@forthefrogs i loved that lmfao especially since it was angelas first tntl
"WHO ARE YOU! WHERE ARE WE! NO!"
Yep, was hoping that one would be in here.
Outside of Smosh, Angela and Chanse have been performing together within the UCB Sketch Team "Moon Goon" Since 2019, alongside Smosh Sketch editor Josh Fleury, and former Smosh head writer Patrick McDonald, So it's really understandable that they are comfortable playing off eachother. They're a really dynamic duo and, as you said, they have amazing chemistry that really lends itself to their performances.
I did not know that!
Smosh hired Angela and Chanse about two years ago on Patrick and Josh's recommendations.
@@ChrisLange-jx5jo oh was it really by their recommendations?? I assumed it could maybe bc partially bc of that, I guess
@@rhettmitchell Yup! And Josh and Angela worked together on StarKid’s Black Friday before she joined smosh
Moon GOON???
There are some rare instances where "No, but" can be the funniest option for an improv scene, but it takes a LOT of talent to make it work.
Like Shayne’s “anti improv” character 😂
Zac from dropout has this talent
That sounds so fun. Like:
"Oh no its raining again i guess we wont be having our picnic"
"No its completely sunny right now you just forgot you put your head in the sink just now 🙄"
"Oh yeah i forgot :I "
@@Acorn905 "Hi. This is Elizabeth Stanton. Have you ever put your head in the sink just now and wished you could forget? Now for the cost of just one picnic basket, the de-sink. Guess you wont be having your picnic. de-sink."
@@boodesultan12zac from dropout has just about every improv talent
Amanda says she's never preplans, she gets the costume on then improves the character
you NEED to react to Smosh's musical improve try not to laugh episodes! Espeacially their first one, its seriously one of their best try not to laugh episodes yet!
Musical improv is a whole other beast. This is a great idea!
yes PLEAAASE
Yesss I liked the second one more though
Oh, that one was amazing
Damien is genius in these!
One I'd recommend from Smosh is Damien's fake exorcism video. He has a powerpoint that he's not entirely sure what's on it, just the basic premise, and he doesn't break once.
Alternatively, watch the 7 minute clip of Damien playing his demented Mr. Grub character during the "Cheating" episode of Let's Do This. It's entirely off the cuff and throws everyone for a loop. Again, he does not break once.
Yes, the whole "Idiots Present" series is great.
Damien is so quick with it. Love every video he’s in
I 100% second this! That is easily one of my top 5 Smosh videos, Damien's improv was incredible
For Shayne and Courtney it really didn't matter that we didn't know about their relationship because people had shipped them FOR YEARS. So whenever they did anything vaguely couple-y-- on accident or on purpose-- the fans would just be like "Ah, they're just feeding the shippers." But there was a duality with that because YEARS ago, when they weren't dating, they made that clear and basically expressed to the fans that they thought it was weird and please don't pressure them. The fandom took that to heart SO MUCH that when they announced their marriage on April Fool's Day, we genuinely didn't know if it was just a joke or if the joke was that they really WERE married and announced it that day just to screw with us. Obviously it turned out to be the latter, but what's even funnier is they seem to have thought that we would all get it, but weeks later they were still finding that people were convinced it was fake. I genuinely didn't believe it wasn't staged until I saw the People article three days later. XD
In the marriage bit, I'm pretty certain that Shayne turned on his Disney misty eyes. You can see Damien's reaction when he notices the tears, I love it
Angela is definitely my favourite cast member now. She has a knack for over explaining things in a way that makes it seem so dumb yet so funny. In their “acting out our weirdest youtube comment” video, which is improv but using comments as lines to pick out and read and incorporate that into the scene, her line sticks out to me. The scene was her and Shayne acting as cousins wanting to have a sleep over and she said something like “Let’s float it by your mom, my aunt, and my mom, your aunt” and it’s so dumb but makes me laugh every time
Her inability to understand game rules is always fun. Or when she thought 9/11 meant 2011. Her gaffes are the best.
ETA: Who memed it with the "Amanda" holding a creature being called Angela. And the later child photo of her.
one of my favorite drama improv scenes from that series. I also agree, I love everything Angela does
Yes! She works off all the other cast members so well, too. Like think of any cast member, and you can easily find moments and videos where Angela works so well with them. I think she and many of the other newer cast members really brought smosh, especially the game channel and tntl, into a golden era. I hope this can last for a while.
These are all the reasons she bugs me 😂 but she was great in DND for a first timer
I have watched the new short/excerpt of her saying, "I'm not blowing shit up your ass" a few time. "I don't think that's the phrase." Either Courtney missed that or is used to it as she didn't lose it until after his reply.
They've done TNTL hard mode before where they *actually* try their best not to laugh & it's pretty fun to see what actually makes them unintentionally laugh! (The Smosh Mouth TNTL podcasts are kinda like that too)
Oh the Smosh Mouth TNTLs are soooo good omg 😭 idk that she’d wanna react to an entire hour long podcast and give commentary though
@@rhettmitchell Courtney's doctor's note destroyed me.
@@somefreshbread yes if she chose one clip that is the one she needs to do. That and Shayne's recording were the two that killed me most, but not sure there is much for her to react to there. The note is masterclass comedy though. Not sure it is improv though. It was written out.
My brain randomly at any given moment of the day for no apparent reason: “Oh no, there’s a pope on the road again!” 😂
Your comment about how not everything has to be high brow, sometimes you can just do something silly, reminded me of a great Damien quote... "you don't come here for smart, you come here for Smosh." Sometimes the point is just to be silly goofy and hyper because why not haha
someone in the comments already pointed it out, but Idiots Present is another improv show smosh has, i think it'd make a great react!!
I also recommend the Damien & Jackie one because they do some in character establishing of boundaries which you can give some background & improv tips
Shayne has a great bit called “anti-improv man” where he just says “no” and negates whatever his scene partner said. He’s only done it once, but I’m hoping it makes a comeback
i agree that angela and chanse's chemistry is really good. also in a recent video, chanse and angela have been working together for 5 years?
their friendship is just great :D
15:10 Smosh has “Hard Mode” which is where they genuinely try to hold back laughs, it has a scoring system, it’s really good! The best thing about Smosh is that we know that they are performers and we are just enjoying the performance, but they also take effort to give us hardcore TNTLaughers a genuine competition
Idk how it took me 20+ mins to realize your whole room is in a permanent state of Halloween and spooky vibes
Halloween 24/7 :)
@@katelynisspooky I've got the same vibes.. Ghosts hanging from the ceiling, Bats flying across my wall, Jack-o'-lanterns glowing in the window, a Snake slithering up the wall with the moon phases along its spine, and light bulbs that mimic candle light.. one of the ghosts is Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas
Absolutely love the wall paper 🖤 @@katelynisspooky
I can see myself, when in the right headspace, burst out laughing Courtney going "DAD?!".
I think the water really helps in that aspect, bc a simple huff of the nose could potentially lead to choking and in general there's just something about knowing you have to try your best not to laugh that makes you so much gigglier.
Love this analysis! And Chanse and Angela are great friends and collaborators.
EDIT: Oh, you have no idea how much Shayne loves fart jokes
Courtney/Neo was dodging Shayne's feelings
"oh no, there's a pope on the road again" is still one of the funniest smosh lines
Love it. Would love to see you watch more of both TNTL and Smosh Pit Theatre + another series called Idiots Present they did where they'd have to present a presentation to an audience thay they knew nothing about. Two of my favs from that one are the one Shayne and Chanse did on buying a zoo and the one Damien did on his own about Exorcisms 😂
I second the Idiots Present rec for a slightly longer improv piece, especially Damien and exorcisms.
Yes, Smosh Pit Theater is a great mix of improv skits incorporating lines drawn from a hat, and cold staged readings of things like fan fiction and cast members' old diaries.
yes pleeease!
Pressing my thumb on the scale for Idiots Present too!!
I think what helps sometimes is that the cast (and crew) know each other so well, they do sometimes cater to the individual on the chair in order to score a point - sometimes that means the bit is funny for the viewer, and sometimes the bit itself doesn't kill but the viewer still laughs because the person spitting has a great reaction 🤷♀
Love this!! Also highly recommend their Reunion videos (particularly the Teletubbies Reunion) which are loosely planned but the jokes and interactions are all improvised!
For the Courtney Matrix marrying Lady Shayne is extremely funny to Damien because Shayne know that he can get Damien to laugh by crying (tears). And Shayne came out tearing up (actor skill based, he's done this a few times to Damien). Lol
Please, if you want, do some of the "idiots present" series, basically they are given a presentation and they improv the whole thing as if they were experts...my favorites are the one with Damien and Jackie where they "prove they can fall in love" and the one with Shayne and Amanda where they teach personal defense.
Seconding the personal defense one, that one went OFF THE RAILS
Smosh is actually doing laugh and go as a live event in a couple days called Smosh The Live Sitcom where every character has two cast members playing them and if someone laughs they get swapped out with their double. It has a script but it's meant to go off the rails from the script especially with elements being thrown in that they won't know about until the show starts and Tommy playing a character that has no dialogue and can show up in any scene he wants to. I don't know if you can react to the live show since it's a ticketed live event similar to the Anthony Funeral Roast but they did a live Smosh Pit Theater with the laugh and go concept to promote the live sitcom.
Yeah I was thinking about that too when she started talking about tagging in people! I’m so excited
To respect the ticketed event I probably won't react to it. But I definitely plan to watch it!
@@katelynisspookyThat was the funniest darn thing I have seen in forever. Totally respect you not reacting to it, but would love to just hear what you thought. I hope I have time to watch a few more times before the end of the month so i can really catch everything. I think people can still buy the VOD. I'm not sure. I hope they do more in different genres.
@@katelynisspooky even without reacting to it I think a short video of you discussing what you thought the strengths and weaknesses of it were from an improv perspective!
there's a tntl where Damien and Shayne wear burger and hotdog hats and there bit is so serious its so good
One of my favorite bits they have ever done
@@PaintedFreddie i love how real it gets when Shayne start tearing up
@@BarneyJutton I'm also a huge fan of the Matchbox 20 references. It's so good
@@PaintedFreddie didn't know it was a reference as I've never seen that
@@BarneyJutton it appears we might be talking about a different bit lol. The one I'm referencing is starts with Damien as the burger man showing Tommy(on the stool) a calculator.
Can't wait to see your reaction to Shayne's anti-improv character
Some good Smosh TNTL episodes are the 100th episode, Shayne’s birthday episode, and some of the crew episodes. Another improv series Smosh had a few years ago was called Smosh & Order where they were each assigned characters and a case then had to carry out the trial totally unscripted so it might interesting to take a look at that.
Loved this breakdown!! You definitely should react to TNTL episode 131. It’s different format where they try to build upon the previous person’s bit for a storyline (also the episode where Gerald cakes makes his first appearance 😂)
Also their musical TNTLs are awesome!!!!
Exactly the 3 episodes I suggested haha
yessss
Okay! I'm on my way...
Angela is the best addition to Smosh
There was another blind pairs they did where Shayne and Angela made their characters purposefully not “yes and” which made it quite interesting (anti- improv man)if you were to check out another one.
Do you have a link by any chance? That sounds hilarious
This was great! This is exactly what react content should be! I love how you broke down the bits and gave extra background information!
i love the try not to laugh bits, shayne and damien always seem to kill it
Would love to see some Dropout content like Make Some Noise, or even some Dimension 20 bits!
Or even Very Important People. I can’t stop thinking about the very first episode with princess Emily 😂
Very Important People is such great improv content
I do think a lot of my generation’s humor comes from confusion and just things not making sense. It’s definitely more directed toward us young uns. And even under critical analysis, I laugh at the nonsense as much as the coherent jokes.
Hi! This came up in my recommended and I really like it. I particularly like your detailed notes and informative comments about improv on this and your first Smosh reaction video. I'm not a performer and didn't even take drama in high school, so all of what you say is new to me, but you present it clearly and make it easy for a layperson to understand.
I was kinda hesitant to click on this at first, but I really like your breakdown of what works about a bit and what doesn't, this is great!
Honestly really interesting watching you break down these bits, great analysis and video! Not only do you get to laugh at the bits but you also get to learn a thing or 2
Really cool to hear some "inside baseball" about improv. I miss doing it myself, and I find myself enthralled more with Smosh Pit than the main channel (mostly due to this, and other character-based interactions)
Garrett’s “I got the vibe of this church all wrong” one-liner had so much Zach Oyama energy in it
I love watching videos like this where someone knows the topic very well and explain certain details while reacting :) also ur eyebrows r rlly pretty
YES, talking about how improv can lead to bigger things and more intricate characters, this is why I watch smosh because it happens all the time, I love to see it
Love your insights about the improv with each blind pair! really cool to learn more about why certain jokes/characters/scenes work better than others
My favorite sketch in this format is on one of the other blind pairs episode. Tommy is sitting in the chair, Matt Fox comes from outside the set behind the cameras to Tommy’s side looking for his poke ball, finding it, and saying he wants to Pokémon battle. Shayne is sitting in a stool he brought next to Tommy, wearing glasses and a cardigan. He writes on a clipboard and leans in and asks Tommy “is he (pause) in the room again?”.
I love this, i wanna learn improve a little and i love smosh so much
Idk if structured improv counts but Smosh's Teletubbies reunion is really good.
I could watch hours of this
Angela and Chase have definitely worked together and still do, Angela is also on an improvised podcast with Patrick McDonald called Artists on Artists on Artist on Artists and the four they have on there is amazing and I highly highly recommend it! Amanda also used to be involved with Groundlings. They’ve gotten some very talented improvisers on cast and I love it.
That leather jacket bit is a massive callback to an old smosh tntl. Courtney is a huge fan of grease and this bit made them laugh and their husband brought it back
This is something I didn’t know I needed, but I absolutely did ❤
Chanse already said "you found me" as the nemo fish, that's the bit. hate when people pause immediately after the punchline, missing it, and missing the joke
I loved listening to your insight on their sketches. It was a lot of fun getting a look into how all of this works!
The Shayne and Garret bit always gets me and it's mainly because of THE LAYERS. My god, you just know Shayne has seen so many versions of that character in his career.
You should watch the first smosh tntl the musical, its AMAZING and the improv singing is just too good
Ive always loved doing improve, im a huge smosh fan, and this is my first video of yours that ive seen. I've been blessed by the CZcams algorithm god's! Definitely gained a sub!
Thank you so much! Loving these reactions
This is so cool! Hope you react to more of their improv ❤ (also nice beatlejuice shirt!)
Loved seeing a part two of you reacting to Smosh 🎉
I really love your home decor, all these different paintings and diverse framed curios are really exquisite! I mean, I'm no interior designer, but I think it's great.
“if we were trying to write scripts that wouldn’t really be a keeper” ~24:55 is really insightful. wonderfully said
Wow. I was very skeptical when I saw a reaction video to smosh pit pop up, but you added so much context to this. Well done👏👏
Another video you should check out by Smosh is their “couple therapy videos”. Especially Keith’s, Amanda’s Sarah Christ is amazing in it
This is great! Please make more Smosh content!
Absolutely loved this breakdown. I would recommend tntl# 111(the gold standard),# 131(every bits are connected) and # 132(Amanda and Chanse were on fire)
Really enjoyed your observations here, I've been watching Smosh for many years and I'm always blown away by their talent. I'd recommend to look at Aunty Donna next, they're unbelievably skilled performers with their style of surrealist improv. I saw them live last year and almost had to run to the bathroom with how much I was laughing.
love this video, i just wanted to point out that another element of TNTL is knowing the audience. For instance Shayne knows that Courtney loves weird sounds, so coming out and doing that weird "eugh" sound, he knew that would get them.
Also, possibly the times Damien has done jokes about Kingdom Hearts to Shayne
Great video! Please keep making smosh content, would love to hear your take on other TNTLs!
Loved the video! As someone who's not at all well-versed in improv, I understood and learned a lot from your breakdown. Also, unrelated, but that lipstick colour looks great on you!
This is awesome pls do more!
I LOOOOOVE your decor and design style!!
i literally cried laughing at "nurses, go ahead!"
I also feel like they sometimes try to cater to each other's sense of humor to get them to laugh like Shayne making a grunting noise at Courtney.
The blind pairs is the most entertaining to me because of the difficulty
if you liked the callback you should watch that TNTL in which they do continuous callbacks from the previous person’s improv!
I love how she immediately recognized Chanse and Angela's dynamic just from their bit, having no idea that they're best friends and they even started a band together!
21:11 Also Shayne and Courtney announced theys were married on April Foils Day which makes it even more badass and funny
About “yes and”
Did you see the Try Guys Tik Toks where someone was trying to do the “i have a flea in my hand” joke?
They all yes anded her to the grave.
Lolol
“Oh you’re gonna find god alright” lmao
You should react to Try not to laugh musical version (part 1 and part 2 cause they're both amazing)! Not just improv, but musical improv. And both videos have some pair bits, which is even more impressive🙃
I would love to see you break down the best bits of TNTL and help explain why they work so well!
Smosh did do a laugh and go style TNTL recently, it was a live one that only had 4 people in it but it was to basically help showcase the concept of the Smosh Sitcom live show they did on their website recently (not sure you'd be able to react to that, but the live TNTL on their channel has a lot of great moments)
Circling back to recommend Elvis is cancelled:dead table talks on the smosh main channel. Mr. Peanut is a must see
I do enjoy that they keep some of the “duds” in their videos. Good on the editor to keep decent pacing through the episode.
Oh I can't wait until you find out about The Try Not To Laugh Bystander
Shane's character during Courtney's turn is also a callback. It's his weird John Travolta character that he does specifically for Courtney, who is a fan of Grease.
Katelyn: They might have a few more of these
Me, who just watched TNTL #144: *chuckles*
That bit of Courtney doing bullet time from the matrix at the alter bit is probably one of my favorites from her and I'm surprised people haven't mentioned it more in the comments. Also I laughed so hard when I saw it when it first came out before we knew they were together/engaged/married lol
This video was super interesting! I would love to see your reaction to some of Smosh’s long-form improv - the recent Darts video comes to mind, or maybe one of their board/card game videos.
I was doing a pretty good job of holding back my laughs but, like the little boy i am at heart, I CACKLED at "uh oh, POOP!" lmaoooo
Anyways, I really liked seeing your perspective on the scenes and saying what works and what doesn't!! Can't wait to see how your channel grows my friend!
if you'd be interested in checking out some voice improv, may I suggest SnapCube's Real Time Fandubs? (I'd go for the "BTDubs" if you're looking for something more short-form to react to, particularly *BTDubs Jeopardy* and *BTDubs Dhar Mann* )
I also recommend the highlight video of them playing Funemployed.
Generally you can find alot of little improv bits scattered throughout any videos of Penny Parker (main host of the channel) playing video games with her friends, but she's also p good at holding her own. That said, I can understand how it could be a hassle to trudge through the more gameplay-centric parts of those videos just to find the improv bits for a reaction video.
I really appreciate your breakdown of a Smosh TNTL episode! I love this series but I never considered how & why a bit works or doesn't. I have a theatre degree but I'm terrified of doing improv; the best I can do is when something unexpected happens in a play & I need to do find a way to get the scene back on track. I would love to learn one day, just not sure when it will happen haha.
As for the Shayne & Courtney thing (aka Shourtney/Shartney), I still found it funny at the time since they had been shipped by the fandom for years. I'm a relatively new Smosh fan (around the time Anthony came back) so I wasn't there when the shipping was intense, but I knew about it from watching older videos. I'm not great at seeing social cues, so I interpreted Damien's reaction & the cast/crew laughing as them referencing the whole "Shourtney ship" joke that had been around for years lol.
“I didn’t know there were moon children and moon woods!”
horror aesthetic, improve knowledge and, smosh reacts? I think i have found my new fav youtuber
It good to remember that there were the “Shournety” fans that shipped Courtney and Shayne long before this episode aired. So it was also a wink at the Shourtney ship Smosh fans back then, but made to also be even funnier now.
@27:00 I love the sketches that you can see the bones of a good fully scripted bit. Personally I think if Damien had played the straight no nonsense DARE cop while Shayne kept asking as if he wanted to find a good drug dealer would have been super funny!
I would love to see you react more to Smosh’s TNTL and even their funeral roasts, and it would be amazing if the Smosh crew found your channel and watched your content for training and advice. 😊
YES!! Amanda _is_ incredible!! She is my favourite in smosh, closely followed by angela and chanse
