Bambie Thug cries as they accuse Eurovision bosses of ‘not supporting them’ in Israel row

- Bambie Thug has accused Eurovision organisers of “not supporting them” over a row with Israel.
The “ouji pop” star, who secured a sixth place finish in Ireland’s first grand final of the music event since 2018, accused the Israeli broadcaster, Kan, of a rule break and said they have been waiting to hear back from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) about what action would be taken.
Bambie, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, told journalists in the press centre on Saturday (11 May): “Kan the broadcaster incited violence against me twice, three times. We brought it up to the EBU. They said they follow up.
“They waited to the last minute, we still haven’t gotten statement back to us, allowed us to be scapegoats, allowed us to be the spokesperson for standing up for ourselves.
“And yeah, the broadcaster has disobeyed the rules and I hope next year they won’t be able to compete because of that.”
The Independent has contacted both Kan and the EBU for comment following Bambie’s claims.

Interesting that the EBU can take a quick stance on the Netherlands and disqualifying them immediatly after Joost Klein (according to Avotros, the dutch broadcaster of eurovision) made a (presumably) threatening movement against a camera woman after he warned her not wanting to be filmed (which was ignored), but the EBU is slow once individual artists complain about the israeli broadcast KAN for (potential) intimidation.
(Also very important to point out that Avotros talked to the EBU about potential solutions such as a public apology. However, their disqualification was final. Avotros also wanted to talk with the camera woman but she declined. Either the incident is really extreme or there was an unwillingness from the EBU to solve the problem).

Okay so if there was no intimidation from KAN then this should atleast be investigated (i hope you agree with me about this). The same also applies to the Dutch case. However, in the Dutch case the EBU immediatly took action during the investigation (so it didn't matter if Joost Klein was innocent or guilty because he was already barred from the event). In the case of KAN there was neither an investigation or any consequences which results in a double standard from the EBU.

I can’t imagine the amount of pressure and stress these performers went through, having to participate in such a controversial edition of Eurovision, and worrying that at any moment, standing up for themselves and for what they believe in could get them disqualified or something. Eurovision is a song contest started in 1956 for European countries and some other countries (like Israel, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Australia). Bambie represented Ireland that year.
Look it up, it's the worlds biggest song contest with European nations (plus some others) competing with music and the song writers have to be from the country they represent and it has to be a song newly written specifucally for the contest, it's usually 37- 40 countries competing against each other so that is why it's alot of politics influencing the contest. For a country to win there are juries from each country to give points to the best song/performances for them and then there is the public votes in which we as the veiwers can vote for our favorite song/artist/performance. The country with most points wins the contest and have to host the next Eurovision. It's like a mini olymics but for music.

The biggest controversal drama last year was Sweden vs Finland, the year before that it was controversal of how bad Italys production and camera team were when hosting Eurovision and some nations tried to cheat with the point system that year but failed.
Eurovision exist because it was how Europe believed they could be at peace with each other after war times, so after WW2 Europe came to unite with music instead of fighting. Tho politics is a challenge to keep us united but we try.

The commentator for KAN was very respectful and actually praised Bambie as a performer and the stage production when they introduced their act. They shouldn't have spoke publicly against a nation and tried to wear pro-Palestinian messages as part of their act if a joke from a commentator saying "prepare your curses" (clearly a reference to the pagan themed act) was enough to bring them to tears.

Even if Eurovision 2024 was the worst edition, I did enjoy the first semi final a lot. The first semi final actually started the event at a high note, thanks to Croatia’s charisma 🇭🇷😼🌟, Ireland’s first qualification since 2018 🇮🇪😈👑, Finland’s crazy party show 🇫🇮🩲🪟 and Slovenia’s power of sexiness 🇸🇮👙✨! The part where one of the hosts said that she voted for Finland last year was iconic and heartwarming.
The second semi final was nearly as good as the first, though unlike the first (9 of my 10 qualifiers did qualify), fewer people of my preference qualified (8/10) and I was in doubt on whether Israel deserved qualification… Käärïjä also appeared and Joost made a makeshift sign saying “Käärïjä should’ve won”. Unfortunately this became a bumpy train ride the moment Joost got disqualified.

Did she really want to have a positive impact in the contest and beyond or was her intention to simply exclude one of the contestants because of her own political views?
I think she arrived to the contest frustrated that people did not agree with her views, and then she left even more frustrated when Israel got second place in the televote and fifth place overall (in both scenarios above Ireland). She hasn't gained Irish support the way Eden has from Israel.
I just hope one day she looks back at all this and moves on gracefully.
