The grand shadow theatre is made of animal skin but not paper, mostly depicting characters from Reamker mythical story which is the Khmer version of Ramayana epic.

I the one who been inside this event and as a Cambodian i so proud and deep emotion so hard during they performance. This is history of Cambodia.
Each character from the tree is the Khmer alphabet, showing Khmer writings. For the shadow puppet it’s a picture of different characters like the King, nemesis, and others …fighting. Yes, it and ancient comic book of sort. I used to love watching one of these in the refugee camp. So happy that Cambodia is showing the world of our rich heritage. Proud of Cambodia!! ❤🎉
An Interview with one of the performers stated that they practiced non-stop for 3 months and on the day of the performance they stood for hours. She said it’s an honor to be part of the opening ceremony. She doesn’t feel tired doing so.
