If that’s your first time I’m quitting! I’ve colored for years and don’t get a quarter of the quality you have. Very nice. Good job 👏
Thank you so much!! You made my day. I think you are joking, but do not quit!! I appreciate your stopping by. Have a wonderful week. :)
This Video was Very Interesting! I have lots of Crayola Colored Pencils that I don't use! I am very impressed by the difference, using the SGL. Thank You for Sharing!✌👽😊
I hope you will give them another go. Thank you for stopping by. 👽🖖
Thanks for this lesson, it is very helpful. ❤xo
Thank you for stopping by. I am glad to hear that you got something out of it.👽🖖
This is by far, the best demo I have ever seen, I so appreciate everything it took to make this video for me, I learned so much, and I'm so glad I purchased the golden glazing medium. Thank you Thank you Thank you.😁😁😁
My pleasure. I got over my fear of this type of video. Just needed a push.👽🖖
@@doodlerobot42 I meant to tell you, you did great explaining and everything was in frame, you seem like a natural♥️
@@coloringjenn1975 Thank you 😊
Try gesso on the paper first. Also Golden's satin finish, use it first also. Ooo, I like Dragonfly glaze!
I LOVE DRAGONS!!!♥️♥️♥️
👍
What a great video! Very informative and documented! Loved that!
Thank you!! 😀👽🖖
Such an informative and detailed video! Very helpful thank you so much for taking the time to share your art expertise. Wow!
Thanks for watching. I appreciate your support. 👽🖖
This was so awesome. Makes me want to give sgl another go. I used a foam brush and not great coverage. Loved this🌺
I do hope you try again. Happy experimenting. 👽🖖
Thank you for the vid, i've heard of peoole using sgl and i've brough some but a different brand to try but been a scaried cat to try. It really helps to see how its used and i love how the water-based markers work, also that dragon book looks amazing. I'm turning into a big fan loved all your vids and look forward to more x
Thank you. What brand of SGL did you buy? And once you've had a go, let us know how it does. I know about being a scared-y cat. I am afraid to color in my most beloved books - like Tomislav Tomic and Futuristic World's... But, find a page that you don't particularly like in a book that maybe isn't your favorite and attack it with wild abandon... Happy experimenting. 👽🖖
Great info! I just started using SGL. Thanks for sharing! 🎨
I hope you have good results with it. Thank you for watching and good luck. 👍👽🖖
Love your videos!
Thank you! I appreciate your watching. 👽🖖
Thanks so much for doing this!!!! I so appreciate it I enjoyed your method. Also Live Long and Prosper and May the Force be with You!
Thank you. Llap and Mtfbwy as well. 👽🖖
I went out and had bought several of the glazes you suggested, anything with a dragon must be good. So watching all of your testing and techniques has helped a good deal. I will do my own testing, something I had already decided to do as that is the only way to learn. One more time thank you again for doing this.
@@maureenmorley9555 I plan on doing a video on the Glitterifics and dragonfly's very soon. But yeah - play play play with them. Fun!!
Wonderful, wonderful video😊
Thank you!! I appreciate your support. Have a fantastic day. 👽🖖
I love your page that you hate! Haha. I think it’s cool and it goes to show how we might not like our pages but others may see something in them. My husband usually loves my pages that I’m not fond of 😆. New subscriber. Love your channel
Yes. I agree. I see other peoples pages that they hate and I like them. Art is subjective... Thank you. 👽🖖
Thank you so much for doing this! I just got some of the SGL on your recommendation and have applied a coat to two pages with different papers. I need all the info I can get, it seems daunting with all the different mediums to try. I'm not nearly as organized and patient with testing as you are. I tend to jump in the deep end and flounder around until I either save it or it goes in the trash and not looking like your so-called wobbly attempts that's for sure! Anyways, I'll probably watch this a few times 🧐 LLAP!
I hope you have lots of fun with your new medium. And many successes. 👽🖖
Thanks for all the information I have many Coco Wyo coloring books she has such wonderful art work but the paper is no good for colored pencils maybe this Satin Glazing Liquid would work I have tried many brands of colored pencil in these books paper is thin and has no tooth. Thank again this was so helpful
Good luck. I hope it works for you. 😀👍
Hi. That was long, but really useful and informative. I saw you comment on Coloring with Alena’s video. I have Tombow brush pens and can confirm that they work very well on SGL. I like to put the colour onto a plastic pallet and apply to the paper with a colourless blender pen for subtle colours for items like fairy wings etc. Sometimes, like now, I colour flat straight onto naked paper and use pencils over the top. Have you tried Watercolour Ground medium? I got some at Christmas, haven’t prepped a page with it yet. I must get on with it.
I use a sponge tipped brush to apply these things. There is also the Art Basics brand of clear gesso to play with. It’s not gritty and is good for pencils. Personally I love the grainy look of coloured pencil work so I don’t burnish. But you might enjoy Gamsol blending solution to help you get that vibrant spec-free finish that you like.
I seen it, but I've yet to try the rub on plastic trick. For fairy wings sounds like such a good idea!!! I have to keep that one in my brain for later. And I don't have watercolor ground, but want to get it maybe? I have heard that it makes it like watercolor paper? Very close. I would be interested to hear about your experiences with it. So please let me know once you have tried it!! 👽🖖
@@doodlerobot42 You can put watercolour ground on wood, metal, stone, glass and then paint on it with water colours! Magic.
Thanks for that Doodle robot. I'm a bit confused as to why you use satin glazing liquid. I learned the reason for doing it was to be able to use wet mediums on Amazon paper but it looks like you didn't activate the ohuhu brush markers with water? I appreciate the demonstration, I definitely used the wrong brush when I applied clear gesso. I'll be looking up some of the videos you mentioned in this one. Love your tips on parchment paper. Very useful.
@@ambient_landscapes Thank you. Glad you found it useful. There was no need to activate the markers. The SGL makes them feel as if you were painting with their nib. It feels quite luxurious actually. And I love watercolor on top of it!! TTFN🖖👽
Thank you so much for this informative video! I love your channel so far and am looking forward to more videos from you. I have prepped several amazon paper pages for testing out my budget pencils. Have you considered purchasing the amazon basic pencils. I've heard that they are a cheap alternative that is very close to prismacolor. About $20 for a set of 72.
No, I haven't. But, I've heard the same thing. If you ever get them let me know what you think. 👍👽🖖
Thank you for taking the time to show us how to apply and blend the water based makers over the satin glazing liquid. Much appreciate your experience. Does the texture of the SGL spoil the brush tips ? It was why I was reluctant to try it after it ate through my Neo 2s and pencils. You've restored my faith in those pens though. I was put off by their streaky nature on regular paper, now they blend wonderfully. Your snake turned out great. I hope to color in this book next month and to try this method soon :)
Yes. I think they rough up the nib a little. But, my using them with stencils did much more damage. Having said that, I have not really done enough pages to really gauge the damage. And I personally am not likely to use them to a great extent anywhere else... So, for me personally it is a non-issue. Hope that helps. 👽🖖
@@doodlerobot42 That's is helpful thank you Doodle robot :) Was planning on trying it again in a different book but then remembered the ink ran from the line art previously.
Thank you so much for the informative video. Did the Alcohol markers bleed through to the other side of the page when used on satin glazed paper?
Thank you for stopping by. No, alcohol markers do not bleed through, but they do go on like watercolor, not clean and crisp. And, it will tear up the alcohol marker nibs a bit. It is a pretty effect, but does not look like typical alcohol marker work. There is a learning curve involved. Hope this helps. Happy coloring. 👽🖖
@@doodlerobot42 thank you so much for the reply
I have the OHUHU water markers too. Do you think Guesso will work the same?
Just wondering so I know if I should get both or not.
Thanks for the video 🤗
Hmmm? I have heard that gesso is a much rougher texture than the SGL - so it might destroy your nibs. I do not have gesso, so I am just going by what I have heard. ?? 👽🖖
@@doodlerobot42 that makes sense, thanks 🌷
Did you ever try Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground instead of the satin glazing liquid?
Also, did you ever try gelatin, or vegetal gelatin (carboximethilcellulose/cmc)?
They are typically used on watercolor paper surface sizing, so it’s meant to work well with watercolors and not alter the texture of the paper that much.
Excellent tips!! Thank you. I know about the watercolor ground but have yet to get around to trying it. If you try the other thing, do let me know how it goes please. Happy coloring. 🖖👽

I was wondering how the Satin Glazing Liquid compares to the Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground, but I have no easy access to those so I was hoping to with find a comparison on yt, but haven’t found any (And I mean really the DS Watercolor Ground, because Schmincke’s version is quite different, it’s a basically the same as other glazing gels for acrylics, and feels plasticky to color on, I tried gel glazing and schmincke’s WG and they are both too thick and plasticky, kind of like a tad bit smoother gesso).
I tried sizing cheap mix media paper with regular gelatin (the unflavored kind that you can find on supermarkets). And it works!! Also works on watercolor paper that lost its sizing, both on cotton and cellulose papers. (Works even better on cotton of course).
However I don’t have any books with amazon paper so I have no idea if it would work on paper this lightweight.
The thinner I tried gelatin on was on 150gsm sketch paper (40 lb)
I am waiting for my cmc order to arrive and will test them as well.
I will also test both gelatin and cmc on Johanna Basford World of Wonders book (US edition), since I tried watercoloring on it and made a mess on a bunch of pages…
If I have positive results, will post a comment here!
Thanks for the reply and for the incredible detailed testings you made
I found that you can color over acrylic paint you just have to make sure it is matte and not gloss
Yes, that is true. And the more you water it down, the better your pencils will do. Thank you for commenting. 😀👍👽🖖
Nice meet you
