After Lighter and Princess, I was still interested in youth modern drama and decided to watch my first-ever Japanese drama called “First Love”. Another reason I watched this drama was of the famous song coincidentally called “First Love” sung by Utada Hikaru. Just the song alone brings back so many memories of my youth. 😂
A heartwarming story about a love that can stand the test of time, this drama fell into comfortable and very familiar tropes, which were very charming and easy to watch. I thought the young actor Kido Taisei who played the young Harumichi stole every scene he was in. He was very charismatic and brought a teen and young adult Harumichi to life. The cinematography of the drama was very beautiful: color, lighting, and various snow scenes.
The story was well-written and flowed nicely despite a few rough areas that needed more explanation. I like how the drama was not only about romantic love but family and coming of age with the consequences of the choices each character made.

The song “First Love” by Utada Hikaru brought back so many of my youth memories. 🥰 This is my very first Japanese drama and I enjoyed watching it very much. It’s pretty short, just only 9 episodes and can be watched in a day. Takeru Satou was the main reason I watched this but dang, the young actor stole my breath away. I felt him in every scene. He captured the innocence, childishness, immaturity and recklessness of a young man in love for the very first time.

Oh my word...its Chinese NY holidays here in Beijing. Its winter...its 2024, I am 50yo and I hope to be posted to Japan soon. I watched this series in one day. I cried from my throat....and my phone almost went flying across the room at the end of Ep 8. The grief, insanity, bliss, irrationality, sacrifice, unconditionality and wholeheartedness of that first love is within all of us. We never forget them and THAT song punches you in the stomach each time it plays. The song also knows of the very experience of that first love. I think the series is hopeful above all else, so by the end my tears did not come from my throat but from my heart...OUT OF SHEER HAPPINESS for our capacity to love...and remember.

The 1st time i saw the movie Rorouni Kenshin, Takeru Satoh really caught my heart for the 1st time, the 1st japanese actor that i admired the most and dreamed of since he is a bachelor i guess.😅 Seriously, his facial expression and the drama scene is captivating, that I can relate to. Everybody i guess experience having their 1st love...sad to say that some may end up happily ever after, some end up tragic... but this drama really gave the idea that love will always prevail and would conquer all.😊 💗💗💗

i just finished this entire season bc of this video. it was amazing. not only did the main actor of rurounin kenshin starred in it, but Yae did a super fantastic job portraying her role. Loved it when she finally realized the flashbacks

I remember how her mom told her how they just have such bad luck with men but as you see, Yae was actually lucky. I find it funny how it was the mom who was the roadblock to their relationship and lowkey kinda led her to her “bad luck” in men.
I couldn’t agree with you more. The irony of what her mother was trying to avoid ended up being the case for her daughter. I truly believe if her mother didn’t meddle in her daughter’s life, Yae could’ve have a better life with Haumichi. But if that had happened, we wouldn’t have gotten the chance to see this wonderful drama. 😅

It is truly Masterpiece. Description of this drama doesnt look promising and i left it in oneof my tabs as "when nothing else to watch" series. But quality of this drama blew me away. Actors play godlike, camera work and overall composition of scènes is impressive, story is good and even side stories are captivating. 5 minute scene of sister love story had so much depth to it and was worth more than watching some other dramas.
Easily 10/10 and if you didn't watch it, don't waste you time on those in important job you are doing, go watch it

I love the this drama to death as it captured the very feeling of first love and the casts acted so naturally and superbly that made us empathized their pain while going through life and feeling incomplete because of the undying love of Harumichi for Yae. From younger version of Harumichi and Yae to their older version. They made me cry a bucket. It was a love that stands the test of time. It’s the first Japanese Drama I ever watch and I can’t stop to watch it over and over again.. and can’t help crying

Damn was really good, the young version of harumichi and yae was very cute, sad and when they met again, and after she went back to where they kept the box and that made her realize that he was her first love omg. The moral lesson is very good as well... damn

I’ve watched this jdrama sooooo so many times. Every time I see something new. The tears still come, in waves 🌊. Every single time I get to a point where I forget the ending because I’m so captivated and engrossed in how everything weaves together. That’s when I really don’t think things are going to work out for them. Then I bawl my head off and wonder if I want to watch more of it because it will hurt more. ALL of these actors are amazing!! Excellent writing, cinematography, directing, on and on… BRAVO ! Totally ❣️ Takeru Satou. Kenshin series took my breath away.

Namiki got chances to be with Yae at the Cafe after he broke up with his girlfriend, but he chooses not to and go abroad. For Namiki it is meaningless if Yae doesn't remember their old memories together even though atm Yae already in love with Namiki.
That cafe scene was heart-breaking. 😭 I had thought the main leads would get together after his broke up with his girlfriend/fiancée, but that didn’t happen until later.
I think Namiki needs to at least suffer temporarily for breaking the engagement with Tsunamie.
It will be awful, if they end up together right aways.
That was the only part of the series I had trouble with. After everything they went through and then to make that decision was heartbreaking. With the phone call she told him how she felt about him but he still went. Zhio- maybe you’re right-he felt some guilt and thought he didn’t deserve happiness-I just don’t.

And if there is one thing that I will never forget about this series is that, it made me feel what love is. After finishing the series the first time, that was the first thing that came out of my mouth, "Ah, so this is what love is."
