MJ himself had a peculiar pronounciation, but you're right, he failed to repeat Michael "musical" pronounciation at least by heart and moreover failed to even remember the lyrics by heart, infact he often mistakes words in the wrong verse as if he had no idea of the meaning of what he's singing and that's really bad in general and especially with this song. Also he unnaturally strains much his voice struggling to sing in the same high MJ key, which is blatantly not his own key (quite lower) and the result is even more unpleasant in this song because obviously it should instead be interpreted with infinite sweetness...
