Q: Safire blue oat grass planted ten+ years old some green poking thru the brown from last year, told don’t cut down to ground, what do I do, pull away the straw hope green ok or replace them, only two of five left, go new? New ones planted last year look great.

We try to clean out some of the brown from previous year. If still not performing well, you could try cutting back in early spring to see if would rejuvenate plant. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I have the miscanthus ornamental grass , about 20 plants and about half of them flopped on me this past summer :(

April seems late to cut down grasses, I do mine in the fall. Snow will destroy these grasses.

You can cut them down in fall but we enjoy the winter interest these grasses provide.
