Small mistake in the video. They are luer slip syringes not luer lock. Those are different than the ones you show in the video.
oh shoot thanks sm for clarifying that i’ll pin ur comment🙏
hey you can shut the f up. didn’t know you were the emperor of fragrances. fragrance lament is a better guy than you’ll ever be
First of all, this was a great video. It's actually great to see how much care and effort you put into testing and reviewing 4711. Keep it up!
As an older Millenial German I grew up with 4711 and I have to say it's always a little funny to me the way internationally people talk about it as a full-fledged fragrance with considerations to longevity and sillage and whatnot, when in Germany nobody considers this a proper 'fragrance'. It's more of a hygiene product for that extra boost of freshness after a shower, a shave or a quick refresher after a long sweaty train or car ride.
When I was a kid my mom would carry miniature bottles of it (little 5ml bottles, very very cheaply available) on long train rides just to freshen up before getting off the train and greeting our relatives. She also always carried 4711 wet wipes to clean our hands before having our snack in the train. And I think this is the most common use for 4711 even in its conception. When it was invented people would travel in horse carriages over bumpy roads. Travel was a very exhausting and unpleasant thing and 4711 warded off headaches or a general icky feeling of not being able to wash up properly over hours. You could also sprinkle it on your handkerchief to put over your nose when you drove through areas with more unpleasant odors, which... not a rare thing back in those days.
That's what the main purpose of 4711 used to be. Not so much a fragrance, but kind of a portable air freshener/hand sanitizer/pick me up tonic. Nobody ever expected it to last or project and nobody used (or uses) it in that way.
Regardless, it's a great piece of fragrance history. Thank you for talking about it!
Makes alot of sense
Bingo! Thanks for posting this comment!
Ah yes, the smell of German grandmas.
wasn't ready for the walter white montage lmao
I made a walter white joke but it didnt make the final cut of the video😔
Lol maybe next time@@Fragrance_Lament
I love the way you give information. It's not repetitive and somehow refreshing to hear even if I already know some of the stuff. I didn't know the story behind 4711 and its history tho thats interesting how the first ever cologne came about.
Thank you very much sir! if you have any video ideas or anything you want to see lmk🤝
@@Fragrance_LamentI know it’s expensive but I saw somebody talking about Farina 1709 but can’t find any English reviews 😂
Ah finally a new interesting creator in fragcom. Reminds me of the fragrance apprentice
🙏🙏🙏
I've watched alot of frag videos, but this was straight up entertaining, educational and hilarious. You knocked this one out of the park kid. Great job. Cheers.
Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino !!! The same scent but "stronger"
Exactly what that's a copy of
I really enjoyed your take on this classic. Well done. Cheers.
You're a good presenter. Have used 4711 as a woman from time to time (it's a unisex scent really). Try Farina, which is said to have been Napoleon's personal cologne, refreshment in a bottle that he always had on him. It's got a slightly different scent.
Never used a fragrance, but you may have sold me. I really appreciate you explaining these tips and tricks to help full utilize the fragrance
You never wore a cologne ever?
flower apron goes crazy good work 🙏
This video is stacked! Great job man, keep it up!
Appreciate it brother, lmk if there’s anything you want to see🙏
I’ve been hooked on Jo Malone Silver Birch & Lavender Cologne for a while. I just got this video recommended and it got me looking at other fragrances again! I’m gonna order the one in the video too.
I've been using 4711 for years. It is one of the few colognes my skin will tolerate without breaking out in an itchy rash.
Such a high quality video. You will definitely have like 100k or one million subs in the near future
Thanks man! I try my best🤝
@@Fragrance_Lament Dude this is very proffesional and I was asking myself, wheres the subs? Keep going, they’ll come soon
I really hope so, thanks for the support brother😊
Just found your channel, very refreshing content. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much!
How does bro only have 3k subs this video was very well constructed and I was very entertained. Good job man!
Love the production om this video, keep it up man!
Thank you very much!!!
Love 4711! But uts not meant to be a perfume. More of a refresher. Its great on hot days, and to clean up if you're feeling stale after a long car ride or train trip.
Im grateful for ya’ll to educate me on this stuff🥹
Missed the videos man, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the support man!🙏
4711 will always represent "clean" to me...
Most of us that are over about 40 remember only having SIMPLE bath products, like Ivory, Zest, Dial, or Yardley soaps and things like Prell, or Johnson's Baby shampoo, so certain "soapy" fragrances represent "Clean" to our vintage noses.
And our grandparents ALWAYS had a bottle of this, or Jean Nate' on the bathroom counter.
As far as longevity goes for this... It's essentially non-existent... You'd be lucky to get an hour or two from it.
However... There are a few fragrances that are in the same wheelhouse that have a similar character.
My favorite one of them is the sadly, recently discontinued "Signature" by the house of Jaques Bogart.
It's what I always joked that 4711 wanted to be when it grew up.
There's also a fragrance from the house of Al Rehab that's called SULTAN... It's available as either a spray or an oil... It's got a similar character to 4711.
Another nice fragrance that's similar and much longer lasting, is Z-1 from Halston... The opening is quite different, but the dry down is about the same effect.
And I'd be remiss to not include Porto Neroli from Maison Alhambra... A clone of Neroli Portofino from Tom Ford... It's a relative beast for a fresh, citrus based fragrance and it'll last six to eight hours per wear.
All four of these are relatively inexpensive (except maybe the Jaques Bogart, because it's been discontinued and now EVERYONE seems to be clamoring for it).
i’ll have to try these ones out! i’m pretty new to the fragrance world so thank you for giving me some information, i love to learn about it and would love to learn more and expand my knowledge🙏
good to see you back, great video !
glad to hear it mate🤝
Loved your video! Thanks! You can put it in the fridge for a cooling effect in the summer!
i have a feeling you're gonna blow up man, i've been into fragrances for a couple years now and watch a lot of fragrance content, and i enjoyed this video more than i enjoy most other ones! very informative, good pace, no adhd editing, W video fr
Thank you so much brother!! I’d love to hear anything u want to see in videos, cheers
Keep it going bro. High quality informative and enjoyable
🙏
Great video. Keep up the good work 👏
Thanks so much brother!🙏🙌
Great accessible and straightforward lesson for newbies to the frag world.
thank you sir!
Great editing bro
You have so much knowledge about cologne! Emma and I enjoyed watching your video !😊 Great editing 👏
Thank you so much! I’m glad Emma liked it🙏
I love this cologne, especially because it is different from todays fragrances. Guerlain " Imperiale " is somewhat similar and a beautifull fragrance as well. Thank you for the nice video, wonderfull that you put such an effort into making it. Well done.
No, the first cologne was not 4711 but Farina. Both companies settled in court over this issue.
ikkk a bunch of the comments have informed me😔
New subscriber here! To me, your videos are just addictive and I think you are a great communicator. You’re gonna be huge, keep up the good work!
Thank you very much! Glad u love the videos🙏
Great video, very informative and good tips as well.
Just a heads up for anyone looking to do the trick of decanting their fragrance from a splash cologne bottle: those syringes are ‘slip-tip’ syringes, not Luer-lock
That was well done sir. 👏👏👏
Why thank you🙌🙌
I'm a woman and I just got into perfumes as a 30-something. Oddly I find your video really entertaining and informative especially the moisturizer hack. Some perfumes trigger headaches but the ones that dont are: Chanel no. 5, Versace Bright Crystal, Yves Rocher Mango Coriander Body Mist, and other scents locally produced in my country that has baby powder scent note.
Bro you just make the perfume videos so so exciting ❤❤, much love from Egypt 🎉❤
This is the type of content I’m looking for
The oldest Cologne was developed by an Italian Giovanni Maria Farina (hence the focus on citrus notes), not the 4711 house. They are still in business as well in Cologne and market their 'Farina 1709', which preceeded 4711.
I had one job and still made an entire video on the wrong fragrance😭😭😭😭
Dude I've been binge watching your videos and as a content creator I'm extremely proud of your growth in terms of editing. Well done 👏🏼
Oh man thank you very much!! I’ve put a lot of work into improving and im so happy to see people notice😊
@@Fragrance_Lament trust me I notice! I know exactly how much work goes into what you created. 💯
Wow props for the production quality and content. Wish you all luck and success 👍.
Yeah the performance is ass, but back in the time people didn’t shower a lot so their skin were more oily and could hold the cologne better.
Awesome NewTake on A Frag 8:06 rance Video. Good Job🎉 Spraying The Tree was Hilarious 😆
thank you very much for the support and the tree is doing well🙌😎
Why doesn't this have at least 100k views?? You've got quality content and editing bro 💪💪
Give it two more months and it will have 250k
Since this is a cologne longevity isn’t necessary because it is design to refresh you when it’s hot or you come from a toilette. For a long lasting experience use a perfume or an extract.
yes! when making this video I sorta forgot to think about how there’s an art to perfumery and that some aren’t designed to be long lasting performing, and more of a refreshing type experience, its been awesome to learn from the comments!
Brother you definitely gotta post more, your my favorite fragrance CZcamsr
Thank you so much bro, tryna post this friday, let me know if there’s anything you want to see🤝
@@Fragrance_Lament awesome, will do
Hiya man can you recommend some summer fragnances ? That are not too expensice max like 90 quid?
Yesterday I bought Coty Aspen and I thought that was extremely unique and old school. Now I'm ordering this beauty and let's see how it smells, but most importanty how it makes me feel! Awesome
Coty Aspen
Stetson's Original
Davidoff Cool Water
Jovan Musk
W video! I will be sure to use these tricks with my Nautica Blue (I couldn't afford Nautica Voyage)
🙏🙏🙏
*I'm an old school fragrance fanatic. I enjoyed this fragrance in my youth (it was made stronger then) . . . and for people who want something similar with more longevity; try Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino Eau de Parfum. Cheers!*
Pretty entertaining! You just got a new subscriber 😅
Thank you very much my brother!!
@@Fragrance_Lament my pleasure
You should shift to niche fragrance….as a designer collector i recently tried a frw niche and was blown away by the potency and smell. Naxos,OmbreNomad, Layton Exclusif, Jubliation 25, Alexandria 2, Russian Leather are all amazing. Try them and designers will feel like diluted water
I love the smell of this, but I use it as an aftershave. It is a good example though, what happens, when only natural ingredients are used. I can also recommend for the German speaking people the lecture at Glockengasse 4 in Cologne, where you can make your own perfume.
That sounds so awesome! Can you basically just show up there and pay for them to do it?
@@Fragrance_Lament Nope. First you get a lecture about different kinds of ingredients, how they are used in perfumes and you also smell them as that. In the end you make your own fragrance.
My great grandfather used this everyday after showering . Still got great memories about that cologne. It’s fresh , like being under a lime tree in summer .
I love to hear the personal stories with em!
We keep, this in a spray bottle in our beer cooler on our boat. Like a fresh cool shower or hand sanitizer! Not strong or particularly long lasting but still like fresh soapy fresh when needed. Whey like it and is compared Tom Ford Neroli Portofino.
I keep bottles in each of my 4 bathrooms for guests.
love it brother!! sounds like a great way to make use of it
mark rober music scared me for a second but it fits beuitilfy
i love you fragrance lament you’re such a good guy. RAWR XD to say the least
what about to say the most
@@Fragrance_Lament UWU poggers perhaps
The lighting in your video is amazing, how do you get it like that?
Someday i’d love to make a video on a separate channel, i’ll probably post one on it soon so just stay tooned for the video this friday and i’ll drop a link to a video with a walkthrough of it!
i’m a traditional wet shaver & have this in my shave den, it’s cheap & fine nothing wrong with it
I gotta get myself a shave den dude that sounds so sick
I like this cologne. I can't get it to last longer than an hour tops but it makes a great cheap air freshener.
totally agree
great video. underrated creator
thank you ☺️
I have loved it for years I live in Australia now and it is good for a refresh on a hot day
Ayyy sounds amazing, i bet Australia is an amazing country too❤️
or you can call it "Bad Performance". You have some awesome knowledge on frags! I'll be watching! Dope VId
Can’t believe I forgot to put that term in the video somehow🤦♂️
But thanks for the support!!
meh, you got your point across well no matter what! I never knew about the first cologne ever. I appreciate the knowledge! I'm a frag collector myself! @@Fragrance_Lament
underated
Omg 4711 Cologne. This brings back a core memory for me of my Mom splashing it on me every night after a bath from when I was a toddler. She had learned of it from her father, a Thai-Chinese gentleman who wore starched linen shirts in the tropical heat and loved tennis and poetry. I have vivid images of her vanity and the big bottle of cologne that was always on top; the label was always partially peeled off because that one bottle lasted her like a decade.
Thank you for reminding me of the existence of this cologne; it brought back a lot of memories of my Mom, an elegant, independent and educated woman who was such a badass through and through, who I lost in 2017. It’s funny how a simple bottle of fragrance can be such a powerful source of remembrance.
love to hear ur personal story with it, i’d love to make a video about how scent and memories or linked because i find it very interesting as well
Fragrance Lament is the Man!
I hope someday, wearing old-school and vintage Fragrances becomes fashionable, I feel like a jackass sometimes when I want to rock drakkar noir, Paco Rabanne pour homme, Azzaro pour homme, Dior Fahrenheit, and I always get the “you smell like an old man” comments, I just like wearing old school fragrances from time to time, aside from the fact that they smell so freaking good, there’s also a lot of memories attached to those fragrances.
very true! my grandma has a huge old original perfume collection and they dont have labels, but some of my favorite scents ever are in her collection
In my view, perfume is just about whether it smells good or not, or if you like it or not. I'm 30 and I still use Polo Green regularly. Its woody smell lasts through time. Some people think old scents must be old-fashioned, but it's actually a timeless pleasure
Here in Germany Colognes like 4711 always where considered to be the scent for an old man (some women too).
Now, I finally get nearer to this age range... ;-)
Maybe I'll try it. It's amazingly cheap, I think. 80 EUR a bottle. (of 800 ml (sic) 😀)
Watched a few videos so far and you are my biggest discovery in 2024. Keep up the good work mate.
Thanks so much for the support it means a lot! I hope to keep making my videos better and better
I always liked this -orange blossoms
amazing awesome content i love it 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much bro, any video ideas??
😂 I've had a bottle of that in storage for years. Got it from a thrift store for like $6 and just never messed with it.
I like 4711 I just got a New Bottle for the Spring. It doesn't last very long but it is pleasant while it's there.
Stories suggest that Napoleon himself Wore 4711 and may have even Drank it. if the stories are true then they used to market it as a Cure All.
I think of Fragrances like this
Warmer weather and Colder Weather.
if it's warm you probably want something Lighter and if it's Colder then you can wear some Heavier Darker Scents if you want to.
Yeah that's one plus about 4711 is that they sell it in Massive quantities for Cheap. my Bottle which is 300 ML cost me 20 Bucks USD.
i bought this in a showergell because i was curious about the scent. i must say that i like it.
or maybe it is because i had extremely low expectations and it turns out to be better than i thought.
if you ever smelled tabac original. it smells more old fashioned. than this scent.
TF neroli portofino is a clone of this one
Ps: can u imagine how the whorehouses back in the day smelled and hiw theyve had to smell before 4711
I mean day didnt shower back then
What fun!
4711 doesn’t last long because it’s only an eau de cologne which is only like 2-5 percent concentration. Eau Fraiche lasts about 1-2 hours while Parfum last about 8-12 with the others being between that range
So it really depends on what your looking for. Mens fragrances may be called “cologne” but that’s not always true that’s just a misnomer. Check your bottles to see what it says in small letters
Parfum - Concentration of perfume oils - 20-40%
Eau de Parfum - Concentration of perfume oils - 15-20%
Eau de Toilette - Concentration of perfume oils - 5-15%
Eau de Cologne - Concentration of perfume oils - 2-5%
Eau Fraîche - Concentration of perfume oils - 1-3%
That brother napoleon was definitely not conquering Europe in 1792 haha
Love 4711 just love it …. ,….neroli portofino by Tom Ford ..smells the exact same but lasts forever ……however the problem for some is the price €€€€
I believe the original eau de cologne still in production was created in 1709 by Jean-Marie Farina (Giovanni Maria Farina). I have a bottle of “Farina 1709,” but have not smelled the original 4711 (I only have 2 of the “floral” series), but the original is supposed to be a copy of 1709, I think? Farina 1709 reminds me somewhat of CKOne 🤦♀️
ik i got deceived by the internet😭😭😭
@@Fragrance_Lamentwell, the history is not very well explained, I only became aware of it on a trip to Köln a while back, when I visited the Farina boutique and bought a book about the history. My sister and I both purchased bottles of the cologne. I was the first to spray mine and report that I now smelled like a “very sexy man.” 😂 Anyway, the 4711 company seems to have more fragrance offerings and be way more visible in Köln, whereas I didn’t see that much of Farina in Germany. Roget & Gallet has a Farina 1709 line (I believe they acquired the company a while back?). Farina 1709 really does remind me of CKOne, I wonder if the original 4711 is reminiscent of that scent as well 😁
EDIT: Not sure if the R&G line is selling the original Farina; better to search “Farina 1709” for the OG.
It’s cheap to buy, will give it ago 😊
It's meant to be splashed on semi wet skin, this is applied after a shower. . .people get an allergic reaction if they have sensitive skin, it's not an aftershave. This cologne is harsh vs the more refined fragrant colognes we have now.
This cologne would be great for a hand sanitizer.
One of my favorite fragrances is CK IN2U but it performs like crap. I love it though! I want it to be my signature fragrance so bad.
I literally spray my chest before bed lol
So it’s been deemed my at home fragrance. I just can’t get it to perform. So I’m imagining this acts just like IN2U.
Yesterday I wore around with my colognes bottles after I have sprayed the scent - I don't get the idea, please explain
I’d love to help but i can’t totally tell ur question, but my next video is all about applying fragrances so maybe that can help too
@@Fragrance_Lament It's a joke on words my man, - I will never walk around with a bottle of fragrance for 5 days 😆
oh man i was like idk how to help you man but i can try🤣
Very interesting
I bought my mom this cause she said she wanted it, so I got that green version and I think a red version. They're very inexpensive!
Alvares Gomes agua de colonia is the best of this type
ive found hundreds of these in the ground that the germans used in ww2
dude no way thats so awesome!!!
OP: "Good Morning Beautiful People!"
Me: DID YOU EVEN SHOWER?!?!🤨
idk what this means but im pretty sure in that scene i filmed at night because i ended up wearing it for like an entire month cause the filming took me forever😫
Try Neroli Canvas from Al haramain. It's 4711 and TF Neroli Portofino on steroids and lasts whole day
perfect i’ll do that!
You got the most British face ever
Nice video btw
lmao never got that before that’s hilarious 🤣
Bro was on his (highly legal substance) Walter White grind 5:14
LETS COOK BROTHER
It's called "Koln water" in German. Of course its longevity is going to be weak.
oh man so its just like spraying water on ur skin 😂
In several Asian countries, 4711 is often sprayed onto shirts worn by corpses
oh my goodness gracious💀
FYI: for me it smells like jhonson’s baby cologne i got one bottle for collection 😊
Last part of the video is so real bro we are all scared of women
unfortunately the industry killed good projection. Besides proper oud, nothing has the projection of the pre 2014 fragrances
How so? Haven't had to buy a new fragrance in years and I'm far from au courant.
Fragrance!
Fragrance!!!!👏
This is something to keep the vibes clean and definite carry around a travel atomizer for refreshing. Its extremely cheap. Do 10 sprays per hour
Take a drink every time he says; "actually".
even better take a drink everytime i say longevity
Too bad you didn't get one with an atomizer. For how cheap the fragrance is it comes with surprisingly decent pressurized atomizer.
I couldn’t find one available, but i’ll have to try it out😭
@@Fragrance_Lament Come to germany , here you can get it in every drugstore and most supermarkets in different splash sizes and a 75ml atomizer for around 6 euros. Until the 70ties it was the most popular fragrance in germany, in most Handbags there was a bottle of 4711. But times changes and today it is the most unpopular scent here. For most germans its the smell of old touchy women who hugs you in an intusive way when you was a child.
