- The ultimate wet dream, Kirsty and Billy duet A New England.
Recorded for a Nicky Campbell session in 1991 during Kirsty's infamous "stage fright" period.
Enjoy
Rest in peace to Kirsty MacColl, we still remember.

Absolutely heartbroken when Kirsty died. It's something I'll probably never get over. I'll cry to this at least twice a month.
R.I.P Kirsty Macholl the girl with the folksy voice that blew us all away.
Better than all the versions they recorded. And MacColl one of the best singers of the last 30 years.
Loving Kirsty is like having a warm coat when everyone else's music is shivering in the cold.
WE could have used Kirsty's voice and music in these dark dark days when it seems the earth is coming to an end. Food and fuel shortages, drought, famine, floods mud slides, volcanoes and the rain forests all but gone now. Global warming will probably kill off mankind anyway. The we may get a chance to hear this wonderful Croydon Lass. Missing you every day since you been gone girl........x
Fucking brilliant! Kirsty McColl was the ultimate duetress. She had her own talent but somehow, when placed beside another voice, she really came into her own. There's few that have been like that and we lost someone with a rare and special talent the day she died.
Such a great protest singer but Billy writes a great love song here and oh Kristy and aBilly are so great.
They shoulda done an album together
Timeless classic.
RIP Kirsty, our Beloved, our Never-forgotten.
Keep singing.
L.
I’ve heard people in the past arguing about which version of a New England is better : Bragg or MacColl...
I always point everyone to this!
From the acoustic guitar to the “switch over” you hear billy and Kirsty joking about! Simply brilliant and needs to be put on Spotify
Also who are the 45 people who disliked this video, and what is wrong with them
Aaaaaaaaaaaah This is magic xxxxxxxxxxxxxx marvellous........just.......I can't stop the tears........ I visited SOHO square the other day....I couldn't believe it...they've got a chair there didicated to kirsty xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx this is MAGNIFICENT......huh....quick ..CHANGE PLACES..... BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes this song is the answer- the only thing better than either of them is both of them.
Positively brilliant!
What a tragic loss - still missed!
Thinking back to Monks Hill School Croydon, Kirsty was a beautiful human being, we chatted a few times and often smiled at each other... I wish I'd got to know her better x RIP hun x
Did you know her?
Smiled at eachother?
R.I.P. KIRSTY❤.
So much love for Kirsty and Billy.
I can't stop listening to this masterpiece, heaven help me....
So nice to discover this version. It was so sad to lose Kirsty so soon--her music carries on. My daughter likes her as well. RIP, Kirsty.
But you did, change the world!
Thank you CFNY-FM 102.1 The Spirit of Radio for opening up the whole world to this great music!
R.I.P Kristy, thank you for the music and your courageous display of parental love.
- love from Singapore
What a combination. Superb and poignant because we no longer have the best female song writer and singer England has EVER produced. Love you Kirsty and Billy too.. up the revolution!
One of the few songs where the cover is equally as good as the original. Lovely to hear them singing together.
What a beautiful song
What an amazing version, so glad I found it
I don't know how I got here... but I'm glad I did....
brilliant two genuine artists, no glam or record company or judge telling them what to do, kirsty had a great voice.

lovely to hear this. i'm from the pogues/billy bragg division. thanks kirsty, what a talent. requiscat in pace
I love this song so much, and t still hurtsto accept that Kirsty isn't among us anymore.
Listening to this for the first time (and on headphones)..........great stereo mix, great guitar sounds and I love Billy's softer vocal complementing the natural power of Kirsty's. Fantasic version.......haha! just got to the solo bit whilst typing this :)
How could we possibly look for another girl? Miss you baby
RIP Kirsty 15 years ago yesterday
mate all she did is cover people's songs
josh jackson nonsense! Kirsty songwriter before she was a performer. Wrote and recorded they don't know before Tracey ullman. I might be wrong but this may have been the only single that she never had a writing credit
So sad. So resonant. So forever. L.
This version is my favorite.Beautiful music.
simply brilliant. bragg's such a great songwriter and kirsty's voice was so unique. i cant stop smiling at this version :)
This song is Bragg's magnum opus. MacColl was a brilliant singer full stop.
I think They Don't Know is of the best English songwriting, Kirsty an amazing songsmith in her own right
@@kevarosenberg she was great. And still saddens me that she is no longer here.
R.I.P Kirsty MacColl

So bittersweet...
Fun and Joyous days filled with dreams and the courage to live the reality made life better than any dream. Keep Kind, Keep Singing and Smile. One smile creates another and calls the Divine Energy we have the power to bring forward. Billy and Kirsty offer us their best energy, it is there, in the vocals, the melody, and the lyrics are real as well as being the perfect way to show both the friendship and trust between Billy and Kirsty. Their energy is as alive today as it was then, and I am able to learn by this reminder, by learning I am able to bless our children and grandchildren. Today, we all need that Divine Energy more than ever. Billy honest and filled with passionate beliefs that he delivered most often with humour not anger. Kirsty, never missed a thing, sang it how she saw it, yet the intuitive vision held that essential fragility that makes us Human. Kirsty told truth and gave it her own irony and laughter, she told it how she saw it. Kindness, both of them had so much kindness in them, and their example gives the planet a chance. Those days seemed as .challenging as the difficulties we face today, revolt and anarchy only create more turmoil. Time to try another Way. I knew both of them before anyone asks. Neo Xitram. London. Today.
wow blown away 1st time hearing both singing at the same time :)
The most profound lyric EVER.....
"I don't feel bad about letting you go
I just feel sad about letting you know"
That's the cut of most relationship break ups
Always miss you kirsty your music lives on!
Still great all these years on. RIP Kirsty.
i love this song and i love her voice. schade daß sie nicht mehr ist... aber vielleicht ja wirklich nur nicht mehr hier
I don´t want to change the world. Kirsty MacColl. RIP
Never realised how good a song this was, nor how good KM's voice was.
Just brilliant...R.I.P.
Thanks for uploading this, it's legendary.
My favourite song, thanks for posting.
I didn't know this version existed. Thanks for sharing.
Incidentally, look up Billy's performance at Okemah, OK in 2012 (Woody Guthrie Centennial)....was there for that one, worth viewing!
Lilly Allen/Kate Nash all influenced by Kirsty,She was before her time in an old fashioned way...exceptional.
A great rendition of a great song
What a voice! Even better live!
So beautiful.
miss you and your blinding voice Kirsty.
hey there is only one version at the end of the day
and That's Billy Bragg a true working class poet. Love your words and music Mr Bragg XX

una versione meravigliosa, Kirsty aveva una voce magnifica quanto al vecchio Billy, beh per lui solo ed esclusivamente applausi

you"ll never be forgetten Kirsty..
Beautiful 👍🏽👏🏽❤️
@mhlamb1
Good call that!!
I was ALWAYS unsure about Kirsty's extra verse, but the fact they sang it together show's that Billy obviously approves.....
...and it just works!!
I think Billy wrote the extra verse
Best Version !!!
play it again Bill and Kirsty of course
Love the subtle change in lyrics
Brilliant!!
RIP to beautiful Kirsty. So very sad what happened to her. Saw the documentary other day ‘Who killed Kirsty McColl’ . May her family get justice.
Amazing, made the hairs stand up at the back of my neck. Thanks for posting.
I dont want to change the world
i'm not looking for another girl
i'm just looking for a "NEW ENGLAND"
I was 17 when i heard this song, i'm 39 now but wont be for long...
Sheer undistilled brilliance...
really good to hear this although i think i like both their own versions better. i loved Billys stuff in the 80s and Kirstys a wee bit later,if i had to pick a favourite it would be Levi Stubbs tears and Soho Square, there both very high up on ma lists .Cheers,X
beautiful
I couldn't find it on Spotify:\ my favorite version!!!
Still love ya babes.
all my Xmasessss
R.I.P ,, Love You :*
She would have been 60 today❤️
Brilliant.
Billy's vocals are softer than in his original version. Kirsty's vocals always great
He's a few octaves higher, works better with Kirsty's I think.

His song, his right to sing it.Dylan is hardly Pavarotti; its the songs that count. You know, words, lyrics, stories
