- In september 1991 the Metropolitan Opera celebrated it's 25th anniversary at Lincoln Center by performing three different acts from a selection of popular Met productions. In the final act (act II of Die Fledermaus) there were some special guest performances by highly renowned opera stars.
What a pair of giants in the world of opera. Such beautiful singing and expressiveness. How fortunate we are to have this performance indelibly reproduced on tape.
Completely agree. Too bad it's not complete, the first part of the aria is missing :(

"winder" lol! My ears and head perk up like a dog hearing that someone's at the door when I hear these voices or opera in general anywhere I'm not expecting to! And it's like I'm suddenly captured in what I hear and all my attention is focused while everything else shuts out! An unconscious grin begins to form as I flow into a state of operatic intoxication!
I've watched this many times and new nuances appear to me each time. Domingo is the greatest tenor who has ever lived thanks to his massive artistry and immensely gorgeous voice, and Pavarotti is so beautiful to hear across the ages. The bonhomie, the bravery and generosity they both show here is beyond human comprehension... really. Bravo, bien hecho hidalgos supremos.
But Domingo is not baritone.
XxSaruman82xX he can be one , he has a very big vocal range !
Pavarotti s voice is unsurpassed in beauty, quality and heartfelt rendering. This said , Domingo s repertoire spans so many roles and his great musicianship is doubtlessly what earned him his well- deserved success.
I don t think singers should ever be defined as being “ the best”, ever.
If a definition were to be given to these two world famous stars, I d quote this
from a well- known professional in the opera world familiar with both:
Domingo’ s voice commands respect, but Pavarotti ‘s earns him Love”!

Domingo un hortera q perdió los agudos y a los muchos ignorantes les da gato por liebre.
@@jesusmunoz2400 Domingo nunca brilló por sus agudos, de joven se le podía llegar a escuchar muy raramente un Si.
A los cantantes nunca se les puede valorar sólo por sus agudos, a un Spinto/Dramático como Domingo calificarlo por sus agudos es de ser ignorante. Un artista que pasará a la historia por ser uno de los más grandes Otello y Cavaradossi.
@@Elsenhor90 Efectivamente a un tenor no sólo se le puede juzgar sólo por sus agudos. Pero casi todos los grandes han tenido un Si y un Do. Cierto q son dos de sus mejores papeles. Pero su técnica siempre fué engolada, además de cantar todo con un verismo indiscriminado. No todo es puccini. Aparte de bajador de tonos y un egocéntrico enfermizo obsesionado con querrer cantarlo todo. No me dices nada de su Edgardo, Romeo, Nemorino, Idomeneo etc. ? Se perfectamente lo q digo. De barítono mejor ni mencionarlo....

Bravo! I had to hear this again... yep, Domingo's voice still makes my mouth water, my mind calm and my spirit consoled. And the Pav's voice is still lovely. How historic and fun for these two to sing this duet! Wow... When Domingo walks over to Pav, reaches out his hand first, touches Pav's shoulder, he displays such grace and generosity, I can't help but wonder if that was all staged or spontaneous. If spontaneous, it just confirms what I've suspected for a long time: that Domingo is a very wise, kind and gentle man, the kind far too rare. He's a living example of how to be a good person. Como no podía ya con los agudos hacia la segunda voz. Ni era ni es ni será barítono. Es un cara dura.
@RENAT HERNANDEZ BRAVO ANTONIO sus agudos intactos? Lleva muchos años cantando precisamente de barítono pq perdió sus agudos hace ya mucho. Aunque su voz como barítono no es tal. Yo lo escuché hace 19 años un Cid un tono bajado. Fué una decepción y la crítica fue feroz.

@RENAT HERNANDEZ BRAVO ANTONIO Pero por desgracia la gente se deja arrastrar por el marketing y la mercadotecnia y no perciben q no es barítono ni será en su vida. A mi como tenor me parece q en su primera etapa para ciertas óperas era bueno, pero nunca el mejor. Su técnica engolada, su veríamos indiscriminado.... hacen q no sea para mí un cantante referente. Prefiero la calidad a la cantidad de roles.

@@jorgebauset7887 Tienes razon, Jorge. Son aquellos que poco han ido a la opera y poco se han emocionado en ella, que evaluaban a los artistas solo por un Do natural, lo mas radicales y los que mas opiniones tienen. Lo siento por ellos.
