My husband is a mobile butcher and it’s very helpful to say exactly what you want because the rest can just be ground up. But what’s cool about being able to discuss it is that you can get cuts that that are unique like the pinwheels. Having a grinder is definitely worth having on a homestead. :)
I payed approximately $1350 for 230 lbs total on a half last November and it if great ! Don’t know how many pounds you got but $1800 seems a little high ! 50% should be ground beef .
Man what state is your farmer in lol
@@letsstartahomestead Texas , see Beaty Cattle Company. I’ve been buying 1/2 beefs off and on for 40 years and BCC is the best bulk I have ever had . I’m glad I was told about them .
@@ridgerunner9304 that’s awesome, definitely better prices than Washington 😅
@@letsstartahomestead I also had half my ground beef made into 1/3 pound hamburger patties . I always get my roasts cut 1-1/2” thick . Your video is quite informative regardless of the price variation between here and there . Thanks for making it .
That's close to what I paid for my 1/2 cow here in PA last March, $1500 for 212lbs of meat (100lbs of ground beef). Looks like prices went up by $100 this year from the same seller so I'll be paying $1600 this year.
That dog is seriously hankering for some of that beef
Your chuck roast if you cook it in an Insta pot or a slow cooker you can use that meat to do tacos or casseroles or soups and stews. There is a plethora of things you could do with that. You can make sliders.
Love the talking baby. That’s real life.
I know right 😅😅
The $7.00 per lbs is not bad, just check the price for a good steak at the meat market, plus you really need to talk to the butcher you can’t just check the boxes, we actually sell beef you need to not fall into the grass fed beef thing, it’s cheaper to raise a feeder on just grass, we use 50/50 grain pasture and our feeders grade out as choice or prime, much better tasting meat.
Thank you so much for this video! Very informative. I didn't hear you talk about the liver, heart, tongue, oxtails and feet? Beef feet are better for bone broth than shanks. I can get 3 large batches of broth from oxtail and beef feet alone. Did the butcher offer those?
I didn’t think to ask about feet but our butcher said they couldn’t package the heart and liver for us I don’t remember why and I also didnt think to ask for the tongue but we will try and get all of those next time!
@@letsstartahomestead We paid about what you paid. For us, that is a large purchase and I know the guy was done with me because I wanted the "whole" 1/2 cow! LOL. Good luck with your homestead. I subscribed! We would like to start one. Will look forward to your videos!
@@nursetammy6470 lol yes they were also annoyed with me because I kept calling back over the course of a few days because I forgot to ask for certain cuts or bones or something 😅
@@letsstartahomestead Yep. There is a reason why they named their butchery "Honest Cuts." Unfortunately, the 2 things almost impossible to find is an honest mechanic and an honest butcher. Whatever the customer doesn't ASK for, he takes home to his family or sells it.
Are you interested in doing a video on how you make your bone broth?
@@nursetammy6470 yes I will/have! When I started this channel I didn’t realize how much time it takes to edit a video and I have two sons under 3 who are on alternate nap schedules and the 10mo old also doesn’t sleep through the night so I have pretty much zero free time 😅 but I will hopefully start being able to edit soon and get posted the videos I’ve already filmed
You got ripped off I pay 1100 for half a cow processing and air zipped bags
Ever thought of doing it yourself ? After a few years experimenting this is what we've been doing, and I didn't grow up on a farm. czcams.com/video/8Att6EdGJUM/video.html
