A couple of things here-It costs the government more to execute an offender than it does to incarcerate them for life, AND very few child victimizers survive long in prison, as other prisoners will make sure that he does not survive for very long.
In addition, statistics prove that the death penalty does not deter the violent/psychotic offenders.

I had to get a restraining order and although it doesn't stop the individual, it at least may make them second guess their actions and not do it. Now if someone is bat shit crazy a restraining order won't mean anything. But someone who is still mentally viable, they will not ignore the order. The order de-esculates a lot of the time.

I think its possible to read too much into how someone handles their sentence being read to them. Just because you handel it well doesn't mean you aren't remorseful or not afraid of the consequences. Some people have been in jail for years to that point during the trial and they have already accepted their inevitable outcome. For instance, Patterson and a few others appear to be remorseful to an extent. That said, I do not think any of them are innocent or should be released.
