I heard the news about Chopper's departure this morning on Facebook. These guys are superb musicians and great writers. I don't think they'd compromise on quality.
SlightlySusan Chopper was performing separately to them at The Wickham Festival so joined them for the concert since he was there anyway. It was great.
I know, isn't that saddening? I'll sorely miss him on the bass. I wish him the best in his future endeavours, though. Just wish he wasn't leaving til they're all buried standing!
To my knowledge, Chopper joined ca. 1988 for Wide Blue Yonder. Possibly earlier, possibly later, but I think he's credited as the bassist for that album. I'm more than certain he was the bassist past Deserters, though. It does look like a younger him if you ask me. ;)
Oh absolutely about Alan. I think he's had the jewfro since they were The Oyster Ceilidh Band. Did you hear the most recent news as well that Chopper is leaving the O-B for pursuit of his solo career? I'm saddened by that, since officially the entire rhythm section has been changed since "Meet You There." Dil is a superb replacement for Lee, so one can be optimistic about the 4 stringer's successor.
It could be Chopper. I'm thinking of one of the earlier CDs he was on and he looked very young, but, in 1994, he looked rather as he does now. Chopper, John and Ian all seem to take turns dyeing their hair. Alan doesn't.

Chopper? I saw the band in 1994. They looked like a motor cycle band then and Chopper was not hot.
