- CMA Study Plan for Working Professionals // If you’re considering taking the Certified Management Accountant exam, you will need a CMA study plan at a minimum. Studying for the CMA exam is not easy, but not impossible either.

I really loved your book and it was really insightful but I have one suggestion. It would have been even easier for prep if we had a few questions in the end to understand the type of question we can expect from that topic and to keep a check on our prep.

I have a question, I noticed you based your duration estimation (4 months) only on the study time, what about the time needed to solve problems and exercise as a practice for each topic. How much time should it take for each CMA part?
Hi Yousra! During the 4 months of study of each part, the time you need to solve problems and do practice exercises is included, so you will not need additional time for this unless you want to study beyond 4 months per part.

I’m a working professional and I plan to enroll for a part this 2021. I got cost acctg, mgt acctg, Corp finance and FS Analysis books. I plan to finish those books before enrolling for CMA review.

Becker has 35 topics. I can study 7 days a week.
Is it mandatory to be an ima member to write cma exams? Or can we get it after the exam part?

I did BCom & MCom (4 years), plus MS (Finance). Am I eligible to sit in CPA exam that is 150 credit hours met?

Study one topic at a time. The study time to consider is from the date you start to your exam date.

I have no knowledge in commerce and accounting. Can I do CMA this year ?.
Sudhir, it'll be too hard to study for the exam without an accounting/finance background. My suggestion is to enroll in accounting classes at a local college or take online accounting classes before enrolling in a CMA review program.

Invest an hour or two in the mornings before heading to work, and a couple more hours on weekends.

Hi Kristine, the medals are awarded to the highest scores in a given exam window. There are no tips specifically to get a medal but if you follow all the study tips shared, the likelihood of getting one will go up.

The CMA designation can help CEOs run their organizations better but the content coverage is mostly geared towards the CFO and Controller roles.

Hi Teja, many professionals make a career change into accounting by earning their CMA. The catch though is that you'll want to take accounting classes first before studying for the CMA exams. Without an accounting knowledge foundation, it'll be too difficult to pass the CMA exams. In my program, we include a Fundamentals of Accounting textbook to help professionals like you who want to transition into accounting.

Hi Sonia, you can take your CMA exams prior to meeting all certification requirements. The IMA allows for up to 7 years after passing the exams to fulfill all requirements including work experience.

With a science major, it won't be possible to pass the CMA exams. First, learn the fundamentals of accounting by taking online courses or enrolling in your local college. You'll need this foundation before attempting the CMA exam.

How about taking it at same time as studying for CPA?
I don't recommend it. Focus on one certification at a time to learn the material well and pass on your first attempt.
