It's just such an Honor to have this channel doing these interviews that are so important not just historically but also for their cultural significance to future generations. It is an ever lasting honor to have fought for Rhodesia and in the RLI, Selous Scouts. I hope this will teach future generations to fight win or lose as mine did in the War of Northern Aggression or Lincolns War to Prevent Southern Independence 1860-1865. Deo Vindice
Respect!
I had the honour of being graded Ist Dan by Barry. Proudest day of my life.
Aren't these Rhodesians amazing people? What a fighting spirit! Against all odds. I wish they could be models for our kids today. God bless them! I'm glad to have met Scotty on a number of occasions. God bless his soul.
barry is suchan accomplised man
wow congo and rodesia ....then a doctor....unstoppable
There is tough and resilient-then there is the next level .
One of the last of the Wild-Men of Rhodesia !! Those were the days my friend.....
Boet and I did karate for a while with Barry in the mid '70's. Name always stuck with me, and I can still count to 10 in Japanese from that!
The first I have heard of the activity in the Congo by someone who had experienced it. Sounds a very different experience to what we endured in Rhodesia as Barry has confirmed. Thanks Barry for a great interview with John…..
C/Sgt Stranack was one of our Instructors at Llewellin. As rookies we paid attention when he spoke!!
Excellent interview with Barry .. Tatenda Sekuru Barry .. a legend ! Gratitude for your service to the green and white 🙏🏻. Such a blessing to the Rhodesian people ! Grateful for your time Sekuru and your insight to what you have achieved and experienced during the war .. so proud to be Rhodesian when I hear soldiers like yourself speak ! Boss John .. excellent job as always .. Tatenda brother 🙏🏻. I could listen to Barry for hours ! Hamba gashle !
Salute and respect this tough soldier and excellent life story
Can't wait to watch this...what a hard man, tough as nails.
Barry I thank you for this remembrance of the brave who faught for Rhodesia.. My sister Sgt Sheehan was operational with dog Bracken.. Clearing mines.. Arms caches etc.. To all who served.. You are always in our prayers and we are so thankful to all of you
You’ve done it again John 👍🏻 Another humble, out of this world, recount of a fascinating life. Thanks Barry and John.
Amazing bloke , can't believe how these scouts were pushed physically beyond acceptable limits . Well done for having survived and flourished .
Wow, what a man and life - makes mine look quite insignificant. Much Respect and thanks John. Would love to meet up with you Barry, I'm in Sedgefield where many Rhodies reside today. God Bless brothers.
Very very interesting- thanks so much Barry and John !
Great respect - what a life Barry has had - cannot wait to access some of his books.
Pamberi 👍
The old-school was the best school, imo. Southern Africa's soldiery set the bar then. The very best steel came out of Southern Africa at that time. Here is one such blade.
Fascinating adventure of a life.
Well done Barry and John
From dipping CoP to a doctorate. Well done.
It's amazing to see how Africa used to have first world civilizaiton.
Great storytelling of a fascinating life and an absolute pleasure to listen to Barry!
Thanks for listening

What an amazing story and an incredible Man...
The bit about the Hunter being shot down really gives me the chills, words and feelings i can't express, i worked on them when i was posted to Thornhill Air Base. It saddens me deeply even after all this time..
Amazing guy. Amazing story & what a great life he has lived

Excellent thanks for sharing
Barry was our neighbour in Paddenhurst Bulawayo, I vividly remember watching him as he built a lot of his gym equipment in his back garden utilising a small welding set. My father and I both trained at his weight training gym and I distinctly remember challenging him to a arm wrestle as a 13 year old which was a big mistake on my part. This was a once again a great informative interview and thoroughly enjoyable.
We are blessed by Staff as such, in SA.
Impressive and interesting recollections, thanks for sharing them Barry and presenting them John. Regardless of what came after, completing several tours of the Congo during it's 'hairy' 1960s troubles, is highly impressive in its own right. From memory I am pretty sure 'Colour' Stranack was an instructor at DRR, Llewellyn for Intake 160....Jan-Apr 1978.
Yet another great interview, good to listen to Barry, was good to catch up with him at Dale Collett's home late last year, before he relocated to Western Cape.
Salute Barry man amongst men
Datenda baba
Good Talk....respect
It's one of my top 3 CZcams channels. Never a dull history moment from the men of a country I consider my country as well.
You guys are the best. You did your best, and you gave it all.
Thank you, John, Tony, and Hannes.
Just finished reading your book Demand a Brave Heart, what a ride 🫡

Le Coq Dor ... "The holy grail". 😅
What an extraordinary story 👍
Great chat! Thanks.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing.
Outstanding, truthful and insightful. Appreciated.
If Barry had to walk from St Martins to Westridge, selection course route marches would have been easy. Clark Road was a KILLER. 😂
My brother's were at st Martin's boys home in Clarke road Durban. We all went to Mansfield boys high
Amazing Story.
Great interview with a great warrior! Respect! 🍻
Unbelievable to be able to listen to these legends. What an oppertunity. Cheers to you, John.
Amazing interview much respect
Great chat, really informative.
Amazing interview and life experience; it was good hearing details on the Scouts selection course, I'd heard it was tough but this account was a real eye-opener.
Many thanks Barry, John & background crew - stay well alll & God Bless Always.
- Nick T.
The Oldest guy to do the selection course and pass? was Des Sinclair!
🎉Thank you Guy's 🎉
Bloem in winter... my chin froze while standing on the parade ground. Until it thawed, I sounded like a drunkard.
Superb interview .
I had no idea that that the scouts were the be all and end all of the war
Awesome Guys!!!! Thanks for sharing 😊
I knew Mike Kerr well
Respect.
That's a hell of a story, more so because it's true. 👍
Rotten meat, you can boil once and eat it, but do not reheat the rotten meat as it will kill you. In any case, you will feel that way. They did it in South Africa as well with their Special Forces 😂 in selection.
The SA SF learnt the SS training methodology that's why. The SA General was always coming to Rhodesia to visit my Dad to get advice and learn how to implement it. When we came to SA I accompanied my father to clandestine meetings on farm roads under bridges etc. meeting with various ministers and Generals where he continued to advise them on military strategy. I was his armed close protection guy.
@@davereid-daly2205 now you just made me want to ask more lol!!!
I didn't make you do anything. I am just correcting your perceptions...@@hennies9509
