It's just such an Honor to have this channel doing these interviews that are so important not just historically but also for their cultural significance to future generations. It is an ever lasting honor to have fought for Rhodesia and in the RLI, Selous Scouts. I hope this will teach future generations to fight win or lose as mine did in the War of Northern Aggression or Lincolns War to Prevent Southern Independence 1860-1865. Deo Vindice

The first I have heard of the activity in the Congo by someone who had experienced it. Sounds a very different experience to what we endured in Rhodesia as Barry has confirmed. Thanks Barry for a great interview with John…..

Barry was our neighbour in Paddenhurst Bulawayo, I vividly remember watching him as he built a lot of his gym equipment in his back garden utilising a small welding set. My father and I both trained at his weight training gym and I distinctly remember challenging him to a arm wrestle as a 13 year old which was a big mistake on my part. This was a once again a great informative interview and thoroughly enjoyable.

Impressive and interesting recollections, thanks for sharing them Barry and presenting them John. Regardless of what came after, completing several tours of the Congo during it's 'hairy' 1960s troubles, is highly impressive in its own right. From memory I am pretty sure 'Colour' Stranack was an instructor at DRR, Llewellyn for Intake 160....Jan-Apr 1978.

Rotten meat, you can boil once and eat it, but do not reheat the rotten meat as it will kill you. In any case, you will feel that way. They did it in South Africa as well with their Special Forces 😂 in selection.

The SA SF learnt the SS training methodology that's why. The SA General was always coming to Rhodesia to visit my Dad to get advice and learn how to implement it. When we came to SA I accompanied my father to clandestine meetings on farm roads under bridges etc. meeting with various ministers and Generals where he continued to advise them on military strategy. I was his armed close protection guy.
