Adding my voice VERY LOUDLY from Australia about how exciting this launch is, just in case it helps prompt the DS peeps to release this set more widely. Or even better, a similar set but giving SM free range across the whole DS range. Not only would I buy one, it’d be my No. 1 recommendation to the many students and friends who have been asking what set to buy starting out. For me, SM hits the perfect balance between ‘beginner’ and ‘intermediate’ information. Student grade paints are largely a waste of time, bucks and energy (you just have to relearn later on with the different features of decent paints). This kind of set has enormous scope for international sales, ongoing. You benefit from serious experience, then add your own pigments as you focus in on your own style. Revolutionary and filling a much-ignored market. Congrats, Steve, for now and also what I believe this will lead to.

I ordered two, there are times when my hands have difficulty with half pans. This way I can take one tin and double up the colors. Then I said happy Mother’s Day to me. My husband was happy too. I was one of the fortunate painters to get one of these pallets. Your channel started my adventure with watercolor painting as my next hobby. Daniel Smith has become my favorite paint. I lived in MN 30 miserable years. There are only a few good things about MN, and Wet Paint seems to be one of them. I am fortunate enough to now live in Daniel Smith and M Graham country. I just ordered my Steve Mitchell pan from Wet Paint, even though I had all but 2 of the colors in the 12 that are in the group. However, I wanted the pan just because it has your selection and your stamp of approval. I am going to fill the other pans with the colors that you mentioned that you would have chosen had you the choice, since I have all of them, and I will still have room for some of my personal favorites that you did not mention. What a great surprise. I told my husband that this would be my Mothers' Day present, so he would not have to worry about shopping. Also, I really needed this great inspiration to get back in my studio to paint since the combination of quarantine and benign brain tumor headaches have slowed me down. Thank you so much, Steve. I took a look at the Wet paints store and it reminded me of our local store in Boston, Johnson Paint Company. They don’t sell online I believe, however, there is nothing like going to a real art store to buy supplies. We used to have Pearl, the NY based art supply company and the largest in the world, in the Cambridge/ Boston area. Unfortunately Pearl went out of business.
What a wonderful chance for us to have your choice of colors! I would run out and buy it, but since I already own these colors because I have watched your video, I won't get it. But it is great idea for those who don't have them. I will check out the store though. Way to go, Steve!

I remember when Daniel Smith was producing his line of handmade printing inks off of Nickerson from his home garage in Seattle. The main store down past SODO was such a treat to visit and take classes. Haven't been up there in ages and miss it a lot. Also miss their annual printed catalog that they used to produce - a keeper each edition for its tips and techniques offered.
It's still a great Seattle art store and place for watercolor demos and classes. They stopped the online sales and catalog a long time ago, but you can still get great tips from the artists that work there and the demos/classes.

Hi Steve, Congratch on the sell out of your new Daniel Smith collection! I have learned so much from your videos, and I love Wet Paint, I'm lucky they are in my town...Saint Paul! I have several of the Daniel Smith more granulation colors, such as green apatite genuine, hematite genuine and some others, but I'm glad you introduced me to M. Graham, as I find many of their pigments to be indispensable, and so easy to re-wet and use. M. Graham paints that are always in my palette are: Hansa Yellow Deep, Azo Yellow, Perylene Maroon, Anthraquinone Blue, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Quinacridone Violet, Pyrrol Red, Ultramarine Blue, and Cobalt Teal...unmatched richness and depth. Thank you Steve, you are the best!
Looks juicy already. I treated myself to 3 DS paints. Green gold was one of them. Well, when i dropped it onto wet paper, never having seen it before, you should have heard my whoop of delight!
Oh yeah Green gold from them is lovely also. You should check out the Green Apatite Genuine from the video also if you like interesting greens. Its so freaking beautiful ive done whole paintings with just that one colour. Truly one of my all time faves. And it actually looks great mixed with green gold too, to give it those warmer highlights.
I love Green-gold too! So wonderful. Have you tried Cascade Green and Undersea Green? These are beautiful and behave in fascinating ways too. I have yet to try Apatite Genuine!
I know you get overwhelmed with comments, but I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you. I have been binge watching your videos. I fell in love with watercolor when I went to college, but haven't gotten back into it until now (roughly 30 years later). Your videos remind of things I learned, teach me things I never knew. I have been struggling with what pigments to buy to replace my dried up student grade paints, and then you come out with this amazing collection! I put my name down for the second edition of this palette, but if I don't get one, I will collect tubes of these pigments to make my own palette. Thanks so much.
I so wanted to buy this but I already own all the colors in tubes..but it is tempting for the tin! Let alone supporting a local store! You were one of the reasons I got back into watercolor...after too many years away. I have a lot to relearn! but I love my M.Graham paints the most but agree there is nothing like that DS Green Apatite I use it all the time! I actually chose most of my MG palette based on your suggestions. I went to DS to just add in ready made greens to round out my palette when I am in a hurry or to get a color closer to what I am looking to add in to a painting. I mostly mix but there are just times you want a green because I felt DS had the most interesting shades such as green apatite and Cascade and rare green earth but then fell in love with DS paints as well.

I received my palette, I was lucky and quick enough to get one before they sold out, two days ago and was impressed. Both with the paints and the packing. I just finished completing the palette chart and WOW. These paints really impressed me. Definitely a step up from my mix of student and professional grade paints. Congratulations! Lovely palette. Sold out already. Based on your videos I have bought my first small tubes of DS paint. A Moonglow and a Cobalt Blue. I also bought a violet but that was a Jackson's own. The DS colours are lovely. I love the Moonglow.
Steve, think I wrote this elsewhere, but I was able to buy your DS palette from Kate @ Wet Paint who has a great memory! A return came in, she remembered me, sent it in 2 days. I gave those plastic palletes to my daughter when we were taking lessons. I filled the second one with the Schminke colors I had on hand. I already told Wet Paint, aka Kate and Justin, to put some of these on hold for me. Love love love
Thank goodness it’s in a tin! :-) Those plastic palettes were crap. I live near the DS store/ factory and even the employees in there were embarrassed by that plastic misstep. That is a killer price for someone new to DS. That’s a nice feature to include the 12 empty pans. I’’m rather shocked they don’t have a pan for of carbazole violet (DS’s name for diox vi). I’d have been tempted to go with nickel azo yellow instead of hansa med and quin burnt orange for the transp red oxide (and then mix my own quin gold when I want it...I just love the greens with PY150). Looking forward to seeing some of your plein air paintings with this set!
Awesome palette, i really want it. I have to agree that Green Apatite Genuine is one of my all time favorite colours. Ever. Such a great color selection, basically all the ones i would have picked myself. It gives you an amazing range between bright clean jewel tones, and mixing down to beautiful range of muted yet interesting/clean neutrals. You truly are a master in your profession Steve!
Just rediscovering my art. Last year was frantic and I’ve been ill since January. Cheered me up to have so many videos to catch up. What a set next time get them to put your name on the tin, boy would that sell. I know what’s on my wish list next time. God bless.
I'm bummed this is sold out but Wet Paint can build you the set using the half pans and the colors, it's just not your metal case. I'm IN LOVE with that Moonglow and the Apatite Green! Just gorgeous. Going to order! I wish I knew all about those colors when I lived near the Daniel Smith stores in Seattle. Oh well, I know now so thank you!
I would like to see manufacturers of the empty palettes make them so you can fit extra half pans down the center. I don't see any purpose in having the extra space around the outside of the pan slots. So.. why do they do it? I have seen them with the adequate middle space.
I personally don't like pans in rows next to each other. Even so more than 24 pans is too much in my opinion. Too overwhelming a set of choices when you're actually painting.
MoonGlow i just adore for morning dew or late night color when its about to turn light. It is one of my favorites next to the PV19 quin gold and that burnt umber. Wich will remain stuck in my ds palette. I am lazy with greens. So I own three of the ds ones... LOL. Could not make a choise between sap green, moss green and pyrelene green... sue me :P
I thought that with the 2001 music, you would turn the paint palette upright like the monolith in the movie! I got my Steve Mitchell palette last week in time for an online workshop with Ohn Mar Win. The colors were great for yellow squash and broccoli! 😍 Thanks for curating this DS palette!

I received my palette, I was lucky and quick enough to get one before they sold out, two days ago and was impressed. Both with the paints and the packing. I just finished completing the palette chart and WOW. These paints really impressed me. Definitely a step up from my mix of student and professional grade paints. Congratulations! Lovely palette. Sold out already. Based on your videos I have bought my first small tubes of DS paint. A Moonglow and a Cobalt Blue. I also bought a violet but that was a Jackson's own. The DS colours are lovely. I love the Moonglow.
Steve, think I wrote this elsewhere, but I was able to buy your DS palette from Kate @ Wet Paint who has a great memory! A return came in, she remembered me, sent it in 2 days. Love the color selections--nice to see such variation. Anyway, congrats on a lovely launch! Must feel really good. (and Da Vinci has now come out with their Moon Glow called Artemis. Can't tell a difference wet or dry.

I gave those plastic palletes to my daughter when we were taking lessons. I filled the second one with the Schminke colors I had on hand. I already told Wet Paint, aka Kate and Justin, to put some of these on hold for me. Love love love
Thank goodness it’s in a tin! :-) Those plastic palettes were crap. I live near the DS store/ factory and even the employees in there were embarrassed by that plastic misstep. That is a killer price for someone new to DS. That’s a nice feature to include the 12 empty pans. I’’m rather shocked they don’t have a pan for of carbazole violet (DS’s name for diox vi). I’d have been tempted to go with nickel azo yellow instead of hansa med and quin burnt orange for the transp red oxide (and then mix my own quin gold when I want it...I just love the greens with PY150). Looking forward to seeing some of your plein air paintings with this set!

Awesome palette, i really want it. I have to agree that Green Apatite Genuine is one of my all time favorite colours. Ever. Such a great color selection, basically all the ones i would have picked myself. It gives you an amazing range between bright clean jewel tones, and mixing down to beautiful range of muted yet interesting/clean neutrals. You truly are a master in your profession Steve!

I’m a bit of a colour addict....I have way too many colours but I always want more.
I'm bummed this is sold out but Wet Paint can build you the set using the half pans and the colors, it's just not your metal case. I'm IN LOVE with that Moonglow and the Apatite Green! Just gorgeous. Going to order! I wish I knew all about those colors when I lived near the Daniel Smith stores in Seattle. Oh well, I know now so thank you!

I would like to see manufacturers of the empty palettes make them so you can fit extra half pans down the center. I don't see any purpose in having the extra space around the outside of the pan slots. So.. why do they do it? I have seen them with the adequate middle space.
I personally don't like pans in rows next to each other. Even so more than 24 pans is too much in my opinion. Too overwhelming a set of choices when you're actually painting.

MoonGlow i just adore for morning dew or late night color when its about to turn light. It is one of my favorites next to the PV19 quin gold and that burnt umber. Wich will remain stuck in my ds palette. I am lazy with greens. So I own three of the ds ones... LOL. Could not make a choise between sap green, moss green and pyrelene green... sue me :P

I thought that with the 2001 music, you would turn the paint palette upright like the monolith in the movie! I got my Steve Mitchell palette last week in time for an online workshop with Ohn Mar Win. The colors were great for yellow squash and broccoli! 😍 Thanks for curating this DS palette!
How exciting. The phthalo blue really changed colors when it dried. It was extra pretty when wet
